Gonna build a cr 125

Edited Date/Time 1/24/2016 7:46am
Since I'm injured, I'm going to buy an cr 125 around -00 to build from the ground up, and have as a fun bike and learn to keep the momentum on.

What's your best mods for the cr?

Have read around and fork-change, air stryker carb and air-boot (what model) is what I've come to conclusion about.

What fork should I get?
Maybe possible to mod an SSS on it?
I might change my coated/rg3 valved SFF fork on my crf 250, so maybe put that one on the cr?

Is the oem shock good enough with a revalve etc?

Engine wise, what should I do to make it tits? :D
Will probably run it on VP fuel.

Tips and help is greatly appreciated Laughing

I was thinking an 02+ CR250 and my fist major upgrade would be a SSS fork and HPSD damper.

Is the SSS fork plug and play?
Hpsd damper, of course!

Could be really nice if the white plastics were red, the purple graphics white and the trim purple...

I build a SUPER mod 2002 CR125.

1992 HPP top end
Boyesen RAD valve
Air Striker carb (2000 CR250 oem)
2007 CR 125 airboot/ Crank
Wolf/FMF ignition
2003 CR250 forks and shock (twin chamber Showa)

Ok, here's my honest opinion....

It was too much shit going on. I chased jetting, tweaked spacing on the pipe flange and intake, tried different pipes, etc....

IF you have the time to play around with everything, more power to you. I wanted a daily driver so to speak, and just sold my top end and carb to another member. I'm going back to OEM and just riding the damn thing. If you want more power..... buy a 250.

I could not remember the cut off but at the end Honda was not using the latest top end on factory bikes. I do remember that cylinders from the last good year model became hard to find. There also mods with KTM 125 rods.

Nice find! Why did they split the cases? Trans? Crank?

Would a crf 250 2004 fork be a good fit?

Edit: looks like that is the way to go after some Google..

Cr/f 250 2004 have the same 47mm show a twin chamber fork, and from what I've read, it's a straight swap?

A guy nearby sell the forks for 150$

From what I under stand all the 47mm showa will fit in the 125 clamps. Just 04 and under if u wanna re use the existing brake caliper. The changed the mounts in 05+ I believe.

I just built an 02 CR125. I went with a mostly stock approach because:

1. Cost. I would rather put the money into my 450.
2. Its a 125. No matter what its not going to be fast, just couldn't justify it.
3. Its a 02. Pre 98 CR125's were Bad ass, I like the AF 125's but the steelies have my heart.
4. I want to ride it, I want my friends to ride it. I built this bike to get beat on, hard. None of us are..light.
5. Resale. You never make your money back on mods so I decided to keep it to Pro Circuit exhaust and some fancy levers.
6. Its a Honda. The OEM stuff was pretty decent and doesn't need to be changed for my type of riding or skill level.

Cant wait to see what you come up with!!! Great price/starting point.

As an owner and builder of an 01 cr125 may I recommend you take the stock carb, and throw it in the nearest pond you can find. That thing is garbage. I worked for MONTHS to get that thing dialed in and it never worked. I finally bought the Air stryker and it literally rides like a whole new bike. I can even ride it on awesome trails here in the NW, even at my 230 pounds lol...

jeez... nothing I was trying to post was working... even at my weight, 225lbs, this bike is a blast.

Looks like it is a SRS head mounted, look if it has more SRS parts. If so, you may not need to do further engine mods Smile

Yeah, the carb I will ditch if it is the stock one for sure, thanks ☺

This bike is by far the best handling bike I have ever ridden. I can ride it all day without feeling like I was in a rodeo or something afterwards lol...

The best thing about these bikes: fun. Everyone who rides the 125 comes off with a smile on their face. Its just a super fun light weight bike. Once yours is done you will LOVE it.

I got an 03 with engine trouble to fix up and sell but I'm a glutton for punishment and can't leave anything alone so I'm doing a frame up rebuild.

For me, so far I have all new OEM internals in engine, suspension bearings, vforce reed cage, intake boot dremeled to match vforce port, 07 airbox and airboot, 2016 front end plastics, new cr other plastics, 13/53 gearing, tristar adjustable upper triple clamp.

Probably going to pick up better carb and not decided about suspension yet and head work.
