To me the issue isn't even how and that he got injured, but how injuries in general are being treated in this sport. I make a bold claim and say if an injury is so severe that it needs surgery, it's clear at the first doctors appointment. Why do these guys keep on racing? There's no benefit.

There's no such thing as a soft rider that rides SX . Everyone single one of those guys deserves respect.

Maybe the team didn't know. Wouldn't be the first time.

He didn't actually know how bad it was until after A1. He then went and got a second opinion and they looked at it a little closer and knew it needed to be fixed. He tried to tough it out , but after this weekend , he said it just hurt to damn bad and needed to get it fixed.

Yup (word replaced, I say dumb things) Mountain bike issue like a week or so before A1. What kills me is hes on that MB too much so, and the risk is high, much higher then a road bike ride. And now! His season is over because of it. If someone was paying me large large cash to race, I would not be risking injury with extra circ. activity outside of my dirt bike., which is what I get paided to do. Dv screwed himself on c-ship one year 2002, with a (word replaced, I say dumb things) photoshoot mid season, mid chase of the title, and he regrets that ever happened.
You just went full retard with that one

Multi time world downhill mtb champion Rachel Atherton hit a pickup truck whilst training on her road bike in the off season a few years back and subsequently missed the entire downhill season and a chance to defend her title. Shit happens, you just have to accept it and move on. Stopping the riders from partaking in other activities is pointless, they could just as easily fall down the stairs and injure themselves.
Look at that interview with Chad Sanner, he talks about Durham re-injuring his foot by tripping over someones shoes in the motorhome. Sometimes these things just happen.

He chose to use the northeast/Boston area pronunciation of Barcia. Very hip of him I thought.

Justin Barcia is tougher than a two dollar steak! I'm sure there's a lot of team managers that wish riders lived in bubbles, but somehow imerged fit and ready to do battle. Anyone feeling that way can wish in one hand and shit in the other, then tell me what one fills up quicker.

Shit happens!

I do agree that riders shouldn't be throwing down 20 lappers on the ragged edge the week of Anaheim. That being said I don't think anyone in their right mind thought a MTB ride would lead to a SX season ending injury for Justin.

I've had what they call "skier's thumb" if that's what they say Barcia has. I injured my thumb by crashing riding mx. I tried riding mx for a few weeks and it was very painful. Yes I could still ride but it was very painful and uncomfortable. So I decided to stop riding and get it fixed. I could however still ride my road bike and mtn bike, it hurt doing those also but not near as bad as moto. I trust that Barcia know's his issues better than you board jockeys.

Let me make this simple..... He took the same risk we all take ANY TIME we hop on one of our beloved dirtbikes. More power to him! We ride dirtbikes and mountain bikes to have fun, relieve stress, stay fit, or work off friday nights binge. Im glad he is getting out on an MTB. Injuries are part of the game.

You do realize that basically every rider road bikes and mountain bikes for training, right? Well if someone was paying you to race and you weren't do anything outside of riding your dirtbike... you'd be getting your butt kicked. Tongue

Also, choose your words a little more wisely. I modified your current post...
MC didn't seem to get his "butt kicked" by not doing anything outside of riding his dirt bike.
You mean MC didn't step on a broken beer bottle partying and cut his foot open at a party during SX season at Lake Havasu in 1997? Causing one of the big derails of his season and losing his title to Emig?

Shit happens. End of story.
