Long story short, I saw stuff I can never washout of my memory, got slapped in the face by a hooker, drank way too much and got shot at by muggers while me and a factory ran away from them. Woke up the next day in the high desert in the back of a truck.

I did Atlanta in 89,was out of my comfort zone fer sure,no riding time and no track near the difficulty of sx.

But,i did all the jumps ,a huge double right out of the 1st turn that was 90 feet .

They used 3 heats then and semis .and it was outdoor,old stadium,and 25 degrees with heavy wind.

In practice I was worried about the big double and getting landed on so I busted it right away. The 3rd time I landed on a haybale and cartwheeled into another section of track,the bike hung wfo and the track worker picked it up. It was spinning in a circle around and around him,lol.

Waiting on the night show Bob Hannah and larry Maiers come by and want to tour my bus. I had brought a friend who raced to pit for me and 2 other friends good at opening beers and hitting a bong. When we got inside they had filled my bucket with cans but luckily weren't hitting the bong. Bob and larry got a laugh out of it and hurricane signed a jersey i still have.

My drinking buddies start pissing in cans and setting them on the curb beside the bus,soon a urban outdoorsman comes by and picks one up,swirling it around he scurried off while we bet if he drinks. Sure enuff,he turns it up and starts puking on all fours.

Later, i do my heat no finishing last then line up on the outside for the semi. The start was high speed all the was down 3rd base line, I get pushed onto the bales and endo hitting the plastic covered plywood and bounce into a dugout ,maybe the bullpen. Fans yell and spill beer on me ,my night done glad to not broke anything.

Weird, I remember that double you're talking about. That thing was massive for it's time. We were sitting almost at the point in which you describe you got punted in that turn. If I'm not mistaken, Jeff Stanton ended up winning that night after Cooper crashed out toward the end of the race.
