Looks like I will be picking up a 1977 Honda CR125 on Friday or Saturday. I really need to stop buying these rollers. The bike is almost all there except for the Air Box and Side Panels. Has a Spark, but it not Running. Turns over and the Lower End moves freely.

I have an addiction. I could understand if these were running bikes, but gosh I have to stop buying rollers.

My goal with this one is a Marty Smith/FMF Replica (I know in 1977 Marty Smith was on the Big Bikes and not his 125cc).

I have airboxes and probably some old original side panels if you need them.

I welcome both an Air Box and Side Panels with open and greatful arms. I had posted on another forum that I needed someone to give me the messurements of the Air Box so that I could reconstruct and aluminum one. If you offer stands then I won't have to go through all of that. Thank You dearly.

PM me an address through here or email me at newmann@gt.rr.com . Anything else you are missing on it? I have quite a few of them torn down.

So I was out in the backyard today after a long day at work, and I am washing (attempting to wash) the 1977 Honda 125M Elsinore and I am getting a little down. I mean I had spent 3 full hours out there washing thing and it looked like Degreaser and Soap had never touched it in its lifetime.

So I am about to give up on the wash job and save it for another day and I hear the UPS Truck pull up. He delivered a big box from Vital Mx member "newmann". I opened it up and ooooh and ahhhhed at the parts and then took them out into the backyard and started washing them along with the bike. Totally motivated me. I was stoked.

I just want to give a huge Thank You to "newmann". You were so very generous. I surely appreciate what you did. The plastics are being conditioned and will be hit with Primer and then the correct paint on Monday.

I started spraying the tank with Tahitian Red and it just is too Orange to me. I think I am going to go with something more Red. I know that Enthusiast whom believe in keeping everything original will be against it but I really need a Richer Red then the Orangish Red Tahitian Red.

The old bikes of Marty Smith and Steve Wise don't look so Orange in those old photos. Neither does the Vintage Factory rebuild bikes.

Taking longer then I expected but I am getting there. Honda Wing stickers need to be ordered next week. I have the FMF stickers already. There are still a few things that need to be sorted out.

Spoke with Rich Gagnon about him Porting the Cylinder and reworking the Head. He really is knowledge able and said that he could for sure get me competitive for the Post Vintage class with his work. He wanted to Port the Cylinder, Rework the Head, Port the Cases, Add Venture Flow Dividers to the Carb and a few other things. Way out of my price range at the moment.

I am going to have Eric Gorr port the Cylinder on this 1977 Honda CR125M Elsinore and maybe also my 1976 Yamaha YZ125. Might be putting the 1976 Yamaha YZ125 and the 1980 Yamaha YZ456 Marty Moates project up for sale soon though.

Don't waste money porting the cylinder until you've gotten some ride time on it. I've been vintage racing the early Elsinores since 1991 and always seem to find myself going back to stock cylinders. Make sure whoever bores the cylinder properly clearances it, chamfers the ports and most importantly clearance the exhaust bridge.

Thank You newmann, I value your advice and thus will hold off. Thank You so very much.

This bike is done except I can't locate the rubber boot that connects the Carb to the Airbox. I had found one on ebay but was a little late with the finger (didn't really have the money anyway). That and some touch up to the paint and she is ready for the races.

I will try to get some photos taken early next week.

That bike looks sweet. But the Elsinore market ain't what it used to be. One day though, one day...

Nice bike.....if you can get the honda wing in the correct position on the tank, it would look even better!

Here is a decent reference to start with...Newmann probably has scans of the original ad's or even a NOS tank!

I do have a nos tank for one of those, actually a complete nos bike less wheels, forks and shocks. Smile Can't find those remaining pieces NOS without breaking the bank though. Been debating what to do with it. Considered building a brand new FMF Package Racer but can't bring myself to bust the cylinder and head off of it.

newmann,

Thank You so very much for your help with the project and thank you sincerely for the link. The one on ebay was only $10 less and I thought I would be getting a huge steal at that price, good to know that they are made in mass for $49.

Okay so after seeing yours, maybe I have to do a little more work before I post it. But if you look in my gallery at what I started with. Gosh. Lol

Great rebuild. Very clean.

I remember during married life when Christmas was coming up I could just hint around at the parts I needed for a bike or a piece of riding gear and Santa would have it for me on Christmas day. Or during fathers day I could just hint around at the parts I needed and I would get them.

Well at least there was "1" good thing about married life.

Have to see if I can spare some Christmas money for myself to put into a few of these projects that I have going.

Hi guys, I just found a 77cr125 in very good mechanical condition, average cosmetic condition. What's the range of going rates on these bikes? Are they competitive in VMX with minor mods? Thanks!
