Unless I include the $5 BJ I got behind the dumpster at the Gary In., Flying J years ago, but that's another story.
50 degrees, sun shining, December 24 in southern Ontario, another chance to drag out the 93, the hurtin' unit that it is. Usually, we are under snow by now, at the least, it's too shitty to ride. Not today, track was a little snotty in spots, but overall, a pretty damn good day. Bike must have weighed 20 pounds more with all that mud packed on, forgot my can of Pam. Oh well, next time.

Pounded out 4 good motos, last one was a half hour, only my 4th ride, after a 2 year break. Strange to be building a fitness base in December, but I'll take it. Thankfully, the cool temps allow enough time in the saddle. This would suck, if it was August. With any luck, winter will stay mild enough, and I can keep playing in the mud. Couldn't have picked a better winter to move back east, like every other poor bastard did, after the oil patch collapsed.

Agreed, I moto'd for 3 hours yesterday which is highly unusual for this time of year.

Scooter, where is that track? Looks great! Also, sweet bike. Some new plastic and a seat and it will look brand new.

Happy freakin Kwanzaa, Vitards. I am 6`6`, the levers have to be that low, so I can use them when I`m standing. I thought the seat gave it some character, along with the brown tank. Note: this is what happens, when you run Klotz 110 in a 93 tank. That bike didn`t see any action or any daylight, for two years. Have new shrouds for it, have to order a seat from Guts, and find a tank eBay.

Ramrod, that track is just east of London, up the Aylmer highway, north of the 401. $20 a day to ride, it`s a lot of fun there, for sure.

Not sure that's standard 93 cover either

When I was in Utah a few weeks ago, I interviewed Travis Pastrana (6'3") and took my older brother (6'5") with me since he's local to the area.

It was interesting talking to Travis about bike setup for tall guys, as my brother never liked my feedback when I warned him that you can mess things up. Travis agreed with this and mentioned trying a little bit of everything in the day to be comfortable. He talked about running too tall of handlebars, running levers in the wrong place, tall seats, lower pegs, etc.

His main warnings: No on tall seats, extremely tall bars, low lever positions.

His main suggestions: Normal height bars but extremely straight and keep them neutral. Leave the levers in a more standard place and the seat the normal height, or it ruins your cornering. He also suggested as low and far back pegs as you can get without tearing your feet off the bike in ruts.

As a note on tall seats, we were talking about current day 450s, which he felt are better setup for tall guys than the late 90s. His reasoning behind this, the seats are flat and easier to move around on. While late 90s bike typically had more of a pocket with a low center seat height... Kind of like that CR. Laughing

Just throwing the info out there, Happy Holidays!

There are a lot of tall guys in my country (Dutchies are tall. When you're like 6'5'' it's not really special here) but I've never seen guys with the levers in that position.

I use to work on jumbo Elliot's bikes of the NYgiants and NY jets, he's 6.7 305 pounds and he liked a normal height bar also, although he rode a KTM450exc he was a woods guy

That`s the whole front end off the 07 Fo Fiddy Zook, that Whore-Gay Fanelli was supposed to butcher, er convert to an AF for me. I knew the geometry would be pretty close on both bikes, measured up the steering stem, and had enough skinned off the bottom, so the threads would protrude through the top of the tube. Voila, one Twin Chamber equipped 93 CR250, valved for ol` scooters largesse. Sure is a fun bike to ride, corners like a dream, if not a little underpowered by todays standard. Like I could ride it wide open anyway. Only thing I`d really like, is some more grunt on the bottom.

Went out for another 4 motos today, and raised the levers, after reading ML512's contribution. Definitely weird for me, but I was adapting as the day wore on, it did seem like it was working. Biggest thing I struggle with is trying to get back on the balls of my feet on the pegs, but with size 15 boots, maybe it's just not that easy for anyone. This track has a couple of fairly long rhythm sections to it, drives me nuts I can't do those properly. Anyone got any tips for that?

Today was the last nice day for a least a week, so I jumped on it, although it was barely above freezing. By nice, I mean not raining or snowing. Might be the end of the run, but it is almost January. Nothing to complain about. Sadly, what little bit of fitness I've built up, will evaporate over a couple of months, and right back to square 1 again. Funny how 2 years off makes you forget how much fun it is riding, I`d actually thought about not getting back onto a bike again. Guess retirement can wait awhile.

I think the levers biggest change is helping you under braking. My brother also had his very low for a while and I'd watch him ride. He told me he like it like that because he felt more comfortable standing up and reaching over like that. What I saw, was he'd stand up very straight and forward on the bike, but stay there under braking. Causing the front-end to dive heavily because he was so far and he was always knifing the front coming into corners. With the levers up, it forced him to get back under braking to get his wrist/arms in the right place to get to the levers.

As for the feet thing, he's a size 13. So not as bad as you case, but we still worked on it a bit as he struggled with it as well. I'd just bug him to worry about having his balls of his feet as close to the pegs when sitting as possible... That way when he stood up, he was already there. Instead of having to mentally remind himself to then move his feet back.

Scooter, same case here in Upper Michigan. The past 2 weeks a friend and I have been riding every chance we got in sands plains which usually has about 3ft of snow this time of year. The trails were better a week ago then they usually are all summer. I'm ok with El Niño or what ever this is.

Well, it must be working, because I was struggling with the same thing. Today, I noticed I was able to get pushed back, and clamp the bike with my knees a little harder, under braking. Thanks ML, think I'm heading the right direction. Now comes the 2 month layoff, where I forget all this stuff. laugh:

Take it when you can get it, eh Awesome? You get some serious snow up in that hood, I've trucked enough through there, played in a few storms in my time.

For sure scooter! The Marquette area gets it pretty good but you get into the Keweenaw area up past Houghton and they get it bad. Lake effect snow is a bitch sometimes but hey, we all got a nice break this winter! We're getting some heavy snow right now so this could be it or it could warm back up. Who knows?
