I remember seeing this thread when it was first posted.

I just watched a few videos from cycle ranch and man that track looks stellar!

Sad to see such a great track with a lot of history close its doors due to one person.

I hope for the people in that area that it opens back up one day with proper management.

I asked the owner if there was any possibility of future ride days. He told me if I wanted to put the $$ and the time in to get the track ready, he would be open to renting it out. I have inquired further....

I'm definitely interested, I was riding at 3 Palms every weekend and since moving to Corpus Christi have not found a good track within 3 hour drive.

Keep this thread alive for the official update on Cycle Ranch.

I dont think San Antonio is doing that bad economically but the money isnt there like it is in Houston or Dallas.

MX tracks dont make money and I think this guy was sick of wasting money and barely breaking even

I think Kent Howerton even owned it at one point...

Red roost down in Edinburg is about 2hrs south of corpus. Same dirt as cycleranch and they have races at least once a month Moto and harescrambles. They do a good job at prepping with tilling and water and a good group of guys down there

Kent never owned it. It was originally owned by Steve Burns, the founder of VP Racing Fuels.

San Antonio is weird, because even though it has a large population, the motocross scene is pretty small. Not many riders there, especially compared to Houston or DFW. Cycle Ranch was good enough to draw riders from Austin and Houston for practice days on a regular basis, though.

My cousin Mike ran it/owned it for years. I havent spoke with him for a while and dont think he has anything to do with the facility anymore. It's really depressing, the memories from this place go on and on!

I agree,

It was crazy b/c apparently his wife is my mothers 2nd cousin. So I had no clue we were related until we pulled up with our race trailer back in 2001.

Family reunion at the track!

It's NOT garbage. Chris works very hard on that track, and if you get there early, it's lots of fun. Every track has its bad days man.

the jumps on that track are stupid and dangerous..im surprised no one has gotten seriously hurt.

there were plenty of 70 ft floater table tops @ cycle ranch that you could hit in 3rd gear and feel perfectly safe and i could hit a 30 ft jump @ del valle and fear for my life

he needs to bulldoze that place and hire a real track builder to come in there and get it to flow and more importantly..be safe.

im not a novice rider either and never one to complain about tracks (grew up riding whopped out sand tracks on the east coast) thats why i dont go there anymore

Guess to each his own then. My son is a complete beginner and never has problems with the track. He likes it. I figured you were referring to the rate at which it will dry out. If those jumps bother you, not sure how you could possibly like red rock?? Place is waaaay more advanced, and will put you on your ass quick if you aren't on your A game. But, like I said, to each his own. I will def defend Del Valle tho. The track is not garbage.

X2, Chris works very hard! Get there early and the track is usually pretty good. It's nice to have a track so close to austin, got to support them. advmxpark.com

Hit him up on Instagram @redrockmx

I follow him and commented on some of his pics and asked if I wanted to be on his email list for when he opens up. I have not made it down there yet as I am pretty far away but I will soon! Was pretty easy to get "in" even though it is not a "public" track

Hard to stay in business when you never tell anyone the hours and when events are happening. I posted a thread on the Cycle Ranch Facebook page one day this spring asking why the track website can't just have a simple schedule posted. Iain replied pissed off because of this simple request. Oh any something along the lines of it takes to much time to update! Really?? Hell any 10 year old kid with a smart phone could post that on his webpage in five minutes. Simple yes we are open this weekend from 8-5 come ride. Instead they had a website that looked like he paid $20K to build that is worthless.
Owner is what drove this into the ground by trying to build a "lifestyle" park. It was a great vision but horrible execution. One of my riding buddies brought up how Murphy's MX is growing steady. That place is nice but its no Cycle Ranch. People go ride there because they know when the place is open. Murphy's website has three lines of info.Location, Phone number and when its open. Seems to work pretty well!

Kawasa84 I'm pretty sure they already had the Cycle Ranch round of that series you are talking about. Most of us had no idea it even happened including myself. Did I mention the marketing job they were doing was the downfall? :-)
This. I cannot understand why track managers and owners do not get this simple fact. Most of US haul rigs at least an hour + one way. I'm not risking a track being closed, I'll go to the one with the updated message "we are open"

yes, murphys is a good track compared to del valle

the jumps aren't stupid kickers and the dirt is alot better. like i said..having a 30 ft kicker table top at the end of a straight away is STUPID!! the whole track is full of stupid jumps like this.

they have a good location with its close proximity to austin but they need to get a real track builder there.

There is a severe lack of business acumen in this sport and one of the reasons why privateer teams spring up for a season or two and than dissapear

some guy who has a succesful business who likes MX gets into it, than spends a year or two around "the sport" and realizes what an unprofessional industry it is and bails out.

Really sorry you had a bad experience there. You should give em another shot. It's not that bad. He constantly is reworking the jumps and making changes. Actually next time you go. If you have a issue with something. Go ask for Chris. He's very nice and receptive.

I'm guessing it has been a long time since he's been there. Chris has ADV on point lately. Go Wednesday nights if you like deep ruts, or Thursday nights if you just like it tacky.

Count me down for an ended hobby with a broken back because of his supercross style jump faces over jumped a jump flat landed on the bike never came off the bike and destroyed my back. The sorry thing is that was always my least favorite track since they had to move it.

I'm not saying the track is garbage but they need to consider the older guys who started late and can't/don't whip or scrub there wasn't a jump there or cycle ranch that I didn't jump I jumped quadzilla several times but those jumps do throw you too high and they are easy to over jump that way somebody could get hurt worse then I did luckily I can still walk

+1 The track has been awesome the last year or 2 and keeps getting better.

Even though this doesn't have all the recent updates I don't know what could be considered dangerous..
