A 450 wouldnt affect a belt of today. Such low HP and torque compared to other sports.

wash the chain off of the bike with a plastic bristle brush then a quick spray of non-aerosol wd40... then I let it dry over night ... heat up a good quality paraffin wax to 170 degrees and soak the chain for 4hours working the chain every 45min. Pull the chain out and let it hang and drip into your wifes best kettle .. you know the one you just used to soak the chain in ... then gradually wipe off any excess wax with a paper towel remembering to put the excess in the kettle. Set the kettle somewhere where she won't find it .. she eventually will anyway which will lead to an argument and then hopefully make-up sex!! Next it's off to the store for a new kettle and a nice movie and probably a dinner in there somewhere then sex when ya get home. .. remember it's not chain maintenance it's a way to get sex. Now regarding premix find her favorite measuring cup ...

Used oil. Apply when chain is hot, after a Moto. Yea, it makes a mess but there's nothing better or cheaper.

I know X-ring (and O-ring) chains are heavier and there's the whole unsprung weight issue. On 450's I'm sure the effect is negligible but what about with regards to 125's? Anyone here running an X or O-ring chain on a 125 and do you notice a difference between it and a standard chain?

Because I really like the idea of running no chain lube. It seems like there's always some issue whether it be a wax or liquid type of lube. That shit flings everywhere and is a pain to remove (if you can even get it removed). Or if it's a wax, it just seems to attract dirt and debris. I'd rather go through chains than waste time trying to clean that stuff off or dealing with the grit.
Talked to a dad whose kid races and he put a 110 tire on his 125. There was a noticeable loss in power guessing the same for the chain just not as bad. I know with my older 125 it's not even possible to mount a sealed chain it will hit the cases.

They all work, my preference is Motul as well. The most important thing is application and frequency. I lubed mine multiple times during the day of riding. Lube the bottom(closest to the ground), not the top, spinning the rear wheel while spraying the top of the chain mid way between the front sprocket and wheel, to carry it around on the inside.

I bought a gallon jug of that once, thinking that it should work well as chain lube. Made a huge mess of the fender, wheel and swingarm as it flung off the chain. Bad idea.
lol i did the same thing... messy for sure....
Eheh thats funny! Some of these oils can become really sticky!
If you want to try at least buy a 100%mineral.

I usually use WD40 just after i wash the bike, then BARDHAL before riding.
It works great because it doesnt collect alot of dirt.

I made the mistake as a kid to use used motor oil, the metal particles created in oil from being used in an engine created faster wear of my chain & sprockets.

I tell ya, vegetable oil offers exceptional wear protection, a 99c can from the supermarket applied regularly offers fantastic protection, a little messy but that is what you have to have if you want the protection.

My GSXR1000 streetbike, has done 80, 000 km's with a 520 conversion and alloy rear sprocket; the chain shows a touch of stretching but the sprocket still looks great.

My 2011 RMZ450 has only just had its first chain & sprocket change since 2011, and I use the bike nearly every week!

So microscopic metal wears more than a tire throwing sand, dirt and water onto the chain?
Got it.

I'm going air filter free from now on and changing my oil every moto.

agree 200%
especially maxima clear on a new gold chain - so sick
and on an old chain ? belray , it hides a ratty looking chain
Belray is also on hand at the track as a loner lube
Maxima clear is never on hand as a loner lube
There's a difference Wink

On a serious note the Maxima clear is hands down the best chain lube I've used so far.

top fuelers run a belt. I think the problem is rocks and stuff getting between belt and pulleys. Would need to inclose. Belts only loose 2% power transfer as a chain looses 7%.

Every Harley uses a belt and never heard of a rock getting caught. Sportsters may use chains. Belts today last forever. Well not literally but they are quiet not shaft to rebuild for 50k like on a BMW. :Smile sorry I hate Beemers. Like the Toyota of motorcycles
Boring but built great. Idk its funny to hear all the different lubes people use. I haven't heard Crisco yet

My good friend the correct question would be, " Are you a politician ? " You a politician makes no sense to me therefore I won't answer your question. But, what the hell. No I am not a politician. Is this sort of banter indicative to this forum?

It wasn't even a question. There wasn't even a question mark at the end of it to confuse him yet somehow he still was. You called him a politician as a joke.

There's also a difference between "loaner lube" and "loner lube", especially when it's "on hand." I'm going to assume you meant the former.
