Anyone else read the article in Racer X about Blake Wharton's motocross school/trip to Israel?

What are your thoughts?

I wouldnt leave the house if I lived in Israel.Dry But I doubt it would matter when an Arab state drops a nuke on them.

My thought is....It doesn't surprise me one bit that the headline photo of a story about motocross in Israel contains large weaponry!....throw christian rocker Blake Wharton on top of said weaponry and you've got the perfect Israeli-motocrosser stereotype.....then hold a race with Israelis on new 450's against Palestinian's on Schwinn's.....and the winner gets to build his house wherever the fuck he wants!

We had a friend from Israel. She came to visit with her daughter, who was about 6 or so. She had a colouring book and throughout the book there was a cartoon character featuring in every scene. And this little cartoon dude, who she would colour-in, was firing automatic rifles, flying fighter jets and driving tanks....

Blake went over to teach a motocross school and ended up doing a fantastic feature for the magazine. I will say he's the best genuine motocross writer I have read since Ping came along. He talks about how motocross was illegal in Israel until 2012 and how expensive bikes are because of tariffs and all. He even went and spoke to the Israeli Minister of Sports to learn about why motocross has struggled so long, and now it's suddenly becoming popular. He stays completely out of the politics of it all, Israeli or Palestinian, hence the name of the feature: Riding on Common Ground.

I'm not sure if Blake was homeschooled, but if he was, he was very serious about it and definitely paid better attention!

Oh, and the tank was just sitting there near the track. They stopped and climbed up on it. He said the whole trip was quite an amazing experience, and it definitely comes through in his words.

That's pretty good doc,,, except you left out the part where the Palestinian has a bomb in his Camelbak. If you're gonna stereotype, do it right.

You mean rocks in his camelbak. The Israeli rider would have a cruise missile to answer with.

Yeah - the tank was just sitting there. Awesome photo-op! The great thing about motocross... is that it doesn't matter where you came from... BRAAAAP translates perfectly in all languages. Smile

I will say this: If we could replicate the racing community we have in the States in Israel, even on a small scale, we would have a great opportunity to positively impact an entire country. Israel is extremely small and something like motocross really could provide so much hope, opportunity... a lifestyle that could transform so many young people. All politics and jokes aside, I think it could really be something. I love what Blake has done over there and I think that Israel is just waiting for something like this. When I sat down with Blake a couple of weeks ago - you should have seen the passion in his eyes! He sees something great and I am excited to see what will come of it. The opportunities are endless...

there is a serious lack of jobs there to support any kind of racing like in the west

there is also a serious land shortage as well

They already have a couple tracks. But I agree with the job concern. However - the desire to have something like motocross is there. And there are already people riding and training and racing. Not to mention the crowds that come along with it....

Awesome story and content. Worst responses I've ever seen. I guess this is the ugly part of people showing through.
Take a positive story and put dumb ass comments about the people who get attacked.

I think that if people were to go to Israel and see it for themselves, they would have different responses. The country is beautiful - rich in history and culture - not to mention the awesome beaches, food and nightlife.

I am excited to see what happens with mx in Israel - and the Middle East in general and Blake's story totally manifests that there is a market there. There are tracks ready to ride. Bikes ready to ride. And crowds ready to watch. Sand for days. Awesome weather.... I'm packing my bags now.

All I can think of (of course) is how awesome it would be to have young women involved and share the passion we at Motocross Ladies (MXL) has with other women. In an area where women are discouraged to participate in sports - how awesome would it be to have MXL in Israel. Get the young people involved and start a new generation of motorsports! I know that if it wasn't for motocross I wouldn't be the person I am today. Would love for motocross to have the same impact in Israel - shoot - all over the world for that matter.

The country yes but the Jewish culture and heritage dates back a few years. Also why discount what good people do because of the scum that try to destroy and hate. Not a fan of these terrorist 72 virgin types.

"back a few years"..... The Jewish people have occupied places like Jerusalem since... well... Bible times. Smile And if we want to get real honest, real quick... if "certain people" would stop throwing rocks, stabbing innocent people and put their weapons down, there would be peace in Israel. They are a country surrounded by people who want nothing more than to wipe them out. You have many uneducated individuals, communities, etc. who have been brainwashed to do nothing but murder Jews. And a Prime Minister who is considered just as much of a "sissy" as Obama. And that opinion is coming from Israelis themselves. The majority of tragedies that occur within Israel are due to people who have an Israeli "ID" card who are in fact not Israelis, Jews, etc. Sound familiar? Lol.

Anyways... this isn't meant to turn political. That wasn't the point of Blake's awesome story. The fact that there is a motocross community in Israel is awesome. And if we can find a way to be involved in the good stuff happening over there... I would say it would be worth it.
