I've made a lot of trips to Idaho and Montana, I really love that part of the country.
Haven't spent much time in Boise, but I'd like to.
Shoot, David Kamo is from the Boise area- and he's one of my favorite people.

Also, one of my dreams is to complete the Tour of Idaho. (someday....)

few friends of mine did the Tour this year, they had an amazing time and took some unreal pictures. now that i've done the ride down the Baja, the Tour of Idaho is next on my list for sure.

Boise is a really cool city and the surrounding areas are great for an off-road enthusiast. i always said if i didn't love living in Utah, Boise or a town near Denver would be my home. Utah is rad because i can literally go snowboarding, boating, or ride my dirtbike in the desert all on the same day with no more than a 2 hour drive

The additional advantage of living in Utah is that you can inquire about moving to Idaho not get attacked by the natives.

That makes it two more Californian's. I clicked on this thread because I am trying to gather some insight on the moto scene in Idaho before making any large commitments. Shelby (Kawi008) is actually a friend of mine in California. From what I gathered it seems like a very good place relocate to, aside from the first guy in this thread who seems to apparently own the state of Idaho.

except for that whole ocean thing...
and warm weather year round...
and one of the highest tax rates in the nation...
and high cost of living...
and crowds...
and traffic...

but yeah, you're right. Boise is JUST like California.

I meant the amount of Californians there. It may as well be Calif.
You're comparing So Cal. for the rest.

The ocean is a sewer...where do you think all the shit and tampons go? If you want to surf. ..you dont surf the ocean.
Not here anyway.

Whats very similar?
CA has as much and usually more winter than Boise.
The snow is deeper and the season is longer in CA. Much higher elevations.

Boise isnt much different from any other high desert town in the valley weatherwise in any of the western mountain states.

Cost of living is the biggest draw. But say someone moves from Nor Cal.....not much difference other than cost of living.

i'm sure I can add a few more things to that list. California is the only place like it. That can be a good or bad thing. I have lived in a lot of different states and I can honestly say nothing compares. I mean that in a negative way to California. The difference from Nor-Cal and Socal is about as big as California to Colorado.

OMC is the main mx track. It is a member only place except for race days. So you get the place to yourself and a few others during the week. They have a summer and a winter track. Racing in the snow is not uncommon a few times a year. Most people here tow a trailer to the races. We have 11,200 miles of single track. obozo supporters should stay in mexifornia though. We are more pro constitution here. insurance costs are about 1/2 of ca. Homes run in the 180,000's and up for a 3 bed 2 bath with a 3 car garage. Jobs pay about half what they do in ca. so the dollar goes just as far.
ONE big thing california has over IDAHO is drivers are way better down there than here. Also the speed limits are low here and the cops will give you only 4mph over if you are lucky.

1st of all, Meridian is a city in Idaho. Not an area of Boise. Two completely different things.

2nd of all, if you have to ask if there are "any good" trails for moto or mtb, please stay off of them. And don't try to find them.

And 3rd, the last thing our state and town want are more idiots from California. Please stop invading our beautiful city, and bringing your shitty California habits with you. Please, do myself, the Idaho moto community, and the state of Idaho a favor, and just stay in California man. We don't need people moving to Idaho to work from "home". Shhhheeeesh, give me a break.
Idaho. LMFAO.

Hey Vital Peeps!

So my wife and I are pretty seriously considering moving to Boise Idaho and buying a new home in the foothills there (since we can work remotely for our CA based jobs) and there is a ton of riding out there but I was curious what were peoples thoughts on a few things.

- Is there any good mtb and moto riding (offroad, hills, or organized tracks) in the Meridian area of Boise?

- I'm aware of OMC tracks and what they have to offer but does anyone have like a geographic map of the areas to Moto around there?

- Any areas to just stay away from because of location?

Thanks in advance guys!

Congratulations on being in a position to get out of CA... IF Boise is on your short list than you obviously have impeccable taste in locations.. The people you should reach out to is The Evans Family they know all the spots to ride among many other great Boise activities and are relocation specialist you could say...

I miss Pleasant Valley MX track but maybe that is because it is the closest to my house. There are some trails to ride in the Pleasant Valley area still for those on the south side of town.

Has the membership at OMC changed at all? Last time I tried to join it required working a bunch of hours out at the track or paying an absorbent amount of $$$ instead of working the hours.

I was born and raised in the treasure valley, Spent the first 37 years of my life there. A very large portion of those years were dedicated to Owyhee Motorcycle Club. Around '97 or so I was actually vice president of the club for a couple years. For the most part OMC is a great place and well worth what ever the charges are and the hours required to work.
There are also quite a few good areas within 30-40 miles to ride as well, but are more geared to open country riding, etc.
As for mtn bikes, can't help ya there..
I moved away in 2006 to pursue sprint cars in washington state, but I don't ride anymore either, but even if I did there are nearly zero areas to ride up here which is odd considering how large the areas are..
