Hello. Not sure if its an 83 or 84 YZ125??? Black frame , yellow plactic, no disc brakes.black radiator shrouds. I dont have a picture yet. No serial number yet either. I wasn't too interested in it but my friend said may be good for vintage racing if 1983 !!! Did 83 have power valve?? I am not near the bike now.

The bike is in the back ground behind the 1978 Suzuki RM250. I believe the Yamaha is 1983. Does that 125 YZ have a power valve?? Its an only picture my friend text me about 1 month ago.

Yes, 1983 was the second year for Powervalved YZ's. It was a major remodel year for Yamaha 125's. It was the second year of the powervalve, first year for the now industry standard dual radiators and it was Yamaha's second attempt at a rising rate linkage. Overall, it was a big improvement over 1982 and a very good bike. The 1983 model came with black radiator shrouds like on the bike in the pic. If memory serves me, the 1984 model only received minor updates which included bold new graphics, yellow radiator shrouds and the infamous Z spoked wheels.

Chassis / suspension wise, the 83-84 was an improvement over the 82. Unfortunately, the engine package for the 83-85 YZ125 was sad. Yamaha small bores always made their power high in the rev range. The 82 had a very fast engine, I'd say the fastest stock 125 of '82.

The 83-85 lost the great top end scream of earlier YZ125's. The slight low to mid power that was gained was negated by the loss of the 83-85 to make good top end power or turn many revs.

Hi Narrowfarm. The bike you are looking at is an 83 YZ125K, I believe it is one of the better bikes to choose for some Pre85 vintage racing. Below is a pic of mine. You can also find info in a thread on here.. http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Old-School-Moto,22/Lechien-Tribute-YZ125,… and on my website www.yz125k.weebly.com

I had both the G, J and K model 125 and the K was definitely a great bike and very competitive in its year. I never had the 84 but apparently it was a dog. I have a Euro white K and a yellow US K, but i have modified the US K with a lot of after market stuff including PVL ignition, Jemco pipe and Race Tech suspension, as well as white DC shrouds and Takasago rims.

Wow ! Great looking bikes! The engine is locked up on the YZ but I am ok with that , but the bike looks complete. My other friend wants the Suzuki RM250 c which is the early 1978. Hope we can get them this week. The owner, which we both know just wants his garage cleaned out.
I am going to check out your web page ,, thanks for the info!! Great looking bikes!!!

Not true 83 YZ125 ran great and with a few wrench report mods (36 MM carb from an IT250) was a rocket. I had 2 that year, most likely my favorite bike. I recently found one to restore. 84/85 were not fast bikes.
