Hello Moto World,

Reaching out to those who understand the love and passion of this tough sport. 2 years ago my son was injured in a practicing incident that has led to many complications for him and our family. At first it was just a major leg and ankle break that has led to many complications. After close too 2 years of struggling he has made the brave decision of amputating his leg from the knee down. His friend has set up a GoFund me account to help with the finances. My son was very against a GoFund me account due to the fact he does not want hand outs, especially around christmas time, but at the age of 25 and the bills he has, me as a mother can only do so much. So far he has sold his truck/van, his bikes, bike parts, gear, TV's and basically anything to survive. He recently moved back into his fathers house to help eliminate his rent as well. We are working with a Lawyer for disability, but it is a long process. If anyone could help in any sort of way we would appreciate it so much.

Thank you all very much and have a great holiday.

If it helps, I can tell you my cousin made the same choice. Broke his leg skateboarding, took a few years but he ended up getting it amputated. Walks just as good on his prostatic as he did before the accident. He's very happy with his decision there

That is amazing! Yes that helps he definitely likes to hear success stories. So far he is very positive and confident in his outcome, so little things like this just help him feel that much better that he will get back to living life. Thank you for sharing.

i Just helped, its not much but i know what he's going through. I chose to amputate my right leg after a horrible crash and two years of surgery and pain. I destroyed both legs but the left i ended up saving by fusing with a triple arthrodesis fusion procedure. So i know what hes going through.
I wish him all the best and most of all be able to keep positive on both the good days and the bad. My amp was on the same leg and place, so i am glad he was able to keep his knee, that makes a big difference.
If he needs anything or wants to talk i would be more than happy to help in anyway i can. Going into my surgery and right after i talked to some amputees who ride, and it was reassuring and a big help. It was awesome when those guys reached out to me and was something that helped me understand a lot.
If he ever wants to he can email me at trapper138@gmail and go from there
All my best to Joey

Get him a C-leg and a good prosthetic guy and get back on the road to success.

My two best friends work as pediatric orthodic/prosthetic technicians and they tell me some of the most incredibly heart-warming stories of being able to give children their mobility back... Kids go through years of pain and anguish only to discover that something as simple as a leg brace or prosthetic limb can change their entire outlook on life.

Good luck to you guys, keep your chin up, it will get better

I've met your son a few times. Great friendly person. On the bright side no more infection and young guys do great with below the knee amps.

Make sure you're working with a social worker when it comes to hospital bills. He should get a significant amount of assistance based on his income level...

I'm sure you're going down that route, but in case you didn't yet....good luck.

So George, your good to back up this story being legit? This guy really needs some help and I hate seeing everyday people get no help while celebrities with good bank will have major fund raisers run for them, so I'm willing to pitch in.

It's unfortunate that things like this can no longer be taken at face value but I know you've been on here long enough to have some credit.

If my donation helps some with Christmas and getting a win from the medical insurers, I'm all good.

I'm very sorry to hear about your sons leg and his current struggles. I know exactly what he is going through mentally, tho physically our injuries are much different. https://www.gofundme.com/6xcwty44
I'm glad to see people are helping a good cause! Tell him to stick in there and everything will work out. I too was extremely reluctant to start a gofundme page due to feeling like I was asking for a free handout, but I ate a piece of humble pie after the foreclosure and did it anyways and I'm glad I did. It's made me realize it's not a handout... It's help and there is a huge difference. Please tell your son that he isn't alone and his Moto family supports him.

I can't give much at all in the form of $$$ and I apologize for that but I'm sure you understand. I will be transferring $20 from my account to his but it will be next week when I can afford to do so. Cheers and good luck!

PS if he wants a Moto buddy to talk to that can relate tell him to shoot me an email anytime! I've got plenty of free time at the moment.

Thank you everyone for the replies. He is doing a lot better they took off the nerve block system today and took out the drain so he's happy he can move around without tubes and cords everywhere.

George he said yes he met you and that your a great kid. He said Stacy mentioned you getting shoulder surgery so we hope you are healing up well!!

Stangkag very sorry to hear about your story! That is very sad and unfortunate, we wish you the best! We will donate what we can as well considering we never want to see someone struggle know matter what the circumstances are with us financially. I will give you his email it's berardi621@gmail.com and also will give him yours so you guys can talk!

Thank you all very much we really appreciate it and all the help we have received!

Its a tough time, an ex team mate of mine had to go the same route, got himself sorted with a decent prosthetic , and still rides , MTB's and everything.. was a long road , but he has dealt with it... have to say , nobody likes getting beat by your team mate , but when he does it with a carbon rod and a trainer to brake with , you cant not be impressed.

Stay positive, and set realistic goals.
