I saw a very interesting post in a other thread- Herlings to Husky 450. That would be my best guess if I was a betting man. Who knows, we`ll see.

That's back when the 125cc (Now MX2) GP title was not an age limited support class thus forcing riders to move up. You had to race the competition who also picked to ride those classes. same can be said for the 250 GP title back when the 500 title was the top class. They faced real competition, not just the younger / less experienced riders who can stay MX2.That is much different from the MX2 of today.

Herlings might have started young but he is still by far the most experienced rider in the class. He has won two titles, swept the series, and been the preseason favorite by a mile for the past 5-6 years. 10+ top riders have moved up from MX2 to the premier MX1 or to the U.S. since he became the dominate MX2 rider. Including the current MX2 champ.
Yes, the career 125 guys that you always had cannot be in MX2 nowadays due to the age restrictions. Guys like James Dobb or Michael Masschio or Erik Eggens who were succesfull in 125cc late into their careers (well beyond the age limitations). It's clear that these guys are not in MX2 nowadays. That is also what i hate from this rule, especially since there isn't a 3rd class that offers good paid rides as well. Like the 250cc class when 500cc was the kings class, or MX3/650/500cc when 250cc/MX1 took over.

However if you look back at the 125cc/MX2 class over the past 25 years before there was an age limit you will see that the absolute toptalent was out of 125cc/MX2 before the age limit anyway.
Cairoli, Rattray, Townley, Ramon, Tortelli, Vuillemin, Tortelli, Puzar, Everts, Albertyn, etc. etc. were all out of the class before the age limit. There are few exceptions, like Chiodi (which made sense, since he is just build for a small bike), but typically the real talents stayed for a few years, won one or a couple of titles and then moved on. It's not that Everts was battling Tortelli in 125cc.

So my point is: i don't think this is so much talent lacking in MX2, actually there is a lot of talent in it. Herling beat Febvre, Searle, van Horebeek and Coldenhoff in 2012 to the title. That is a great list of riders.
Imo in 2-3 years people will look at the list of Gasjer, Jonass, Anstie, Guillod, and Tixier and say the same.

As i said, í'd like to see him in MXGP, because i think that will be much more fun to watch, but he is allowd to race and imo you are seriously underestimating MX2 when you put it like winning in a support class.

Cairoli moved up at age of 23, almost 24.

Yes he does he stated he wants to break everts total moto wins, only way he can accomplish that is by staying in mx2 class as long as pssible.

I find it hard to believe that after 20+ yrs ? of no title in the 125 mx2 class honda are going to not have the number 1 plate on their bike.
My only thought that Gasjer may move up is he is struggling with weight for the MX2 bike as he is a big kid it might take to much out of him to keep the weight down

Didnt one manufacturer throw a lot of money at Herlings to switch, and then he would of probably be in the 450 class now?

HRC offered him a 7 figure amount about 2 years ago. He's probably near/over a million euro fee already.

Watching him ride is a piece of art, whatever bike he's on. But racing wise he should've never raced Lierop in 2013 and move on to a 450. He was way to dominant in 2013 with moto wins by over a 45 secs almost every moto.. Didn't he also win every moto up until 1st moto of Uddevalla? That's 18 motos in a row. Than he went on to win 9 more motos in a row untill he crashes at the qualifying race of Bastogne. I feel like he has nothing to lose in MXGP but everything to lose in MX2. I don't really care what he will ride as long as he's healthy and riding like he's always done. Piece of art.

As I understand it, Honda offered him a deal to go 450, which he accepted, but he still had some years left on his KTM contract and they put a ridiculous fee on it to buy him out, so he stayed with KTM. I could be wrong, but that's what I heard

Not sure how legit this interview is (the way it's typed just looks made up and way too political correct) but if it is than he will most likely stay MX2

I don't care what class he's in as long as I get to see him race!

watching herlings ride the sand is something else- he has speed / flow in the soft stuff that nobody has ever had before! poetry in motion

cant wait for valkenswaard! it would be nice to see him battle the top mx1 guys, but we have 6-10 years of that to look forward to when he does decide to move up

Mxgp.com not legit enough for you?

Don't know what you mean about the way it's typed but he says nothing new apart from the fact that he still has pain and that may move him to stay in MX2 next year. That would be a damn shame...

It is a transcript of the conversation between Jeffrey and Paul Malin during Bercy last sunday.

Listening to him speaking to Malin on commentary at Lille, I don't think anyone really knew how bad the injuries were that he had both this year and last year. I just want to see Jeffrey Herlings fully fit and back at his best again, regardless of what class he chooses to race in. He's the kind of rider you that you pay a lot of money to go and watch

Herlings should be aloud to race in the MX2 class as long as the rules allow. KTM and Herlings have the right to race whatever class they want. We are talking about a World Championship series not some school boy class.

You guys are missing the bigger issue. I just looked up who Britt Voorn is and I'd say he needs to fix that "stupid mistake" before anything else. Figure out MXGP or MX2 later.

I'd think Jeffrey Herlings has a little unfinished business in MX2.

He IS allowed to race whatever he wants. And MX2 is a world championship series.
It is also a series he has outgrown by now and he should be able to contend for podiums and wins EVERY MXGP round.

Nice. I keep hope.

If he stays in MX2 we will keep wondering how he stacks up against the "big boys". Comparing laptimes as oranges and apples.

He has the right to stay and if he feels he has unfinished business I understand. I'm just so damn eager to see him in MXGP kicking some Paulin-, Febvre- and Cairoli-butt.
