By the way: Mike Brown is a badass
He won his first races the year Ken Roczen was born (if I remember correctly, looked it up a while ago) and he is still riding lol

Bone Stock husky, not even decals on it as it looks
Matthes cut up one of Filthy Phil's #'s to get the #3 lmao. Brown also had to scramble to find some boots after his luggage didn't make it. Rough time.

The whole point is to attract supercross riders that the local people don't ever get to see in person.

yeah but how much did he pay for all those Americans to show up ?? the man must have lost a fortune that night just to pay them this race , and the big names are only for people who follow SX races ..You really think Bulgarians ever heard of these names ?? we got some SX races here in the netherlands , with US racers i never heard of ...yet some how they atract a lot of people ..so why spent so much money if people dont know who they are ? SX in Europe is very small ... i dont think Malcom will earn more as 150K for 4 races .... no way .... just my opinion
if so i would stay in Europe if i was Malcolm , dont think he makes 40K a race in the USA and podiums each race

I am probably wrong, but I'm just throwing this out there. I would think that a lites rider like Malcolm on a team like Geico makes $10-15k bonus for an SX podium in the US? Maybe $25k for a win?

Are you seriously trying to argue the economics of these races here on vital? 40k to show up for a Malcom Stewart type rider is not uncommon for some of the european supercrosses. The podcasts Matthes has with dozens of riders who have raced these have confirmed these figures.

As for this race specifically, I think you'd have to talk to Eric Peronnard if you want to argue about it not being worth it to the promoter.

Right and who said the 150K are all price money or paid by the organizer?

Some of you seem to take offense to these guys making good money by racing these races. I don't know how much any of them got paid to go to Bulgaria nor do I care. Although I think Eric Peronnard told Matthes when he was on pulp MX show a few weeks ago. I know that the last time my wife and I flew to Europe (Rome to be exact) it cost me $15k for 2 round trip tickets in business class. I don't know how much it costs to ship a bike over there but I'm thinking it isn't cheap. And then you've got hotels, rental car, food, etc. I'm sure none of them went over there to break even so that gives you an idea where the number needs to start for these guys to even consider it.

$40,000 to show up? You said you heard this from the riders on the pulp show? I don't think those numbers are right. I remember hearing numbers of 5K - 10K. If you do a lot of winning I could see that number ride quite a bit , but for 40K just to show up I believe is incorrect.

And they usually don't ship any bikes over. It's usually just forks and a shock stuck in a bag , which is what they take with them. Stuck in the belly of the plane like luggage.

I travel a lot and therefor listen to a lot of Pulp MX podcasts. In fact, I think I've just about listened to all of them now. I've heard these comments from a lot of riders, promoters and people like Matthes a ton in different podcasts or shows and it seems to be consistent. Many riders have said that they'd make more money racing in the off season in Europe than they'd make in the US but they relied on doing well in the US to be able to make their name in order to be valuable to those European SX promoters.

I remember a podcast about Cianciarulo after he got hurt at one of them last year and people were talking about how stupid he was for going. But then the point about him being offered something like $50k to go was brought up. DV has talked many times about how he would make a lot of money racing the European SX races but Factory Yamaha made him insure his contract which he said was a lot of money to do but he was getting something like $50k a race to go. Eric Peronnard has said that in the 90s Jeremy was getting $100k just to show up to Bercy SX. Jim Holley told a few stories about having tens of thousands of dollars in cash from these races back in the 80's. The list goes on and on.

I never said Malcom got $40k to show up in Bulgaria but for all anyone in this thread knows, maybe he did. Or maybe he got $4 but all of his expenses paid and he just wanted to go to Bulgaria really bad so he went. I don't know but I do know that I trust what Racer X publishes more than I trust what is said on a message forum.

racerxonline interview with Malcom about Sophia

Malcolm:
A lot of the riders get paid to show up, and it doesn’t make any difference if you win or not. Fortunately, this is one of the races where if you do win or get on the box, you do get a watch. So I think that it’s kind of cool that these guys changed it up for us. I can’t imagine what they’re going to do for next year.

30-40K all day long for a dude like Mookie, Brayton, Weimer etc etc

Barcia, Canard 50-60K or more..it depends on how many nights the race is. Genoa is one, Sofia was two, Bercy was three...

MC, DV got 100K back in the day for Bercy.

And most guys are shipping bikes now, very few dudes just bring parts anymore at the level of racing of the above racers.

I feel very good about my sources on this.Tongue

40K a race and so happy to get a watch if they get on that podium Woohoo Woohoo Woohoo

he also said ?A lot of riders turn down this stuff, and they might regret it if they didn’t. You take this little chump change like this and just throw it in the bank and then go make your real money at A1.

so 40K a race is just crap , lets go for real money at A1 .... what do they make a race at A1 ?

somthing doesnt match between what is said here and what malcom says in that interview
