93 cr 250 question

Edited Date/Time 11/2/2015 3:16pm
Recently picked one up in fairly good condition.... Rode it last week with the standard pipe on and was quite impressed (suspension sucked)...anyway I got a brand new pro circuit works pipe and put it on today and went for a quick blast and was really disappointed! The bike was a lot harder to keep on the pipe, having to clutch a lot more.. Was expecting better, thinking of putting stock pipe back on but was wanting to keep it fresh... Is this normal? Any help appreciated

Stock pipes are great on those. Pro Circuit does move the powerband up a bit with good over rev on top.. I went with a Bills Pipe back in the day after my stocker got crunched. Gave it a meaty low end and strong midrange. Check your reeds..

The stock Honda pipes were usually the best back then. Magazines did tests on it too.

I got a 94 cr250 with a stock pipe. Always wondered how they stacked up to the aftermarket. Nice to hear.

The stock pipe is the best, but when I crushed mine I got a DG National pipe, it was nothing more than a copy of the stock pipe for 1/3rd the cost of a new Honda pipe.

should be able to do a conversion front end to fix that fork issue. could have sworn ive seen that era cr250 with newer era fork and clamps on there, that will also allow you to run a newer front wheel, and with that new fork lug, a new era brake caliper which is just win win all the way around. worth researching!

Your jetting is probably off. It will run rich with the PC pipe.

Emig Racing makes HRC replica triple clamps that accept the 97+ Showa TC forks and entire front end.

Stock is best, but I've had the best luck with the DEP on my '94. Ive tried PC, FMF and DEP and none have the grunt the stock pipe has. I went DEP with an air striker. v-force and re-gear per track and she rips!

In my opinion (I know everyone has one) the carb swap was the best bang for the buck. I got mine from JD Jetting. As far as gearing. it depends on what kind of track/riding your doing. I bought several Sunstar steel rear sprockets. They last forever and its A quick easy way to get the power you want for track/conditions.

Yes I really enjoyed the bike first ride with the stock pipe... Was riding a deep sand track so Obv the suspension flaws came out but it turned really good(perhaps too good!). Was just trying to get a bit more top end but Al def be putting stock pipe back on! So u reckon just putting an airstriker on should make a big diff then?

Definitely do the 97-up front fork conversion/upgrade i believe the 2004 crf forks were some of the absolute BEST in terms of smoothness, plush yet not overly soft and probably the ONLY Honda forks I ever rode that were not harsh to some degree.

I also had a 93 with the stock pipe and that bike RIPPED!!! I never tried an aftermarket pipe or silencer but if you want your stock pipe to look trick you can use airplane paint stripper (or something like that) it will remove all of the stock paint and give it that bare metal look like a PC pipe. Honda even bead blasted theirs in 03/04 even the factory team ran the stock pipes! I thought they only did that on the case reed "RC" engines I didn't know the stock pipes were that great on the 92-01 engine as well.

If you can find a PSI pipe you'll like it if you want top end. They make a pretty big difference.

They still build sled pipes I think. Look 'em up. They built bike pipes during the early '90s. Nice stuff.
