He should have expected to be off the pace , riding round your own garden for 18 months is no way to know where you are , after all the hype , to go 20-dns -dns was as much a piss take as RV turning up and not racing.

The overall expectations some people have for James ( and any rider coming back from some serious time off ) is just way to much sometimes. James got to run practice and qualifying , which was enough for now to get his feet wet and figure out what he needs to work on before Jan 9th. James will be WAY fine come then , and I think what we saw last night was just that , a gauge for him to work off of.

People that thought he was just going to stroll right in there after a 16 month layoff and beat everyone , either just don't get it , or need to get their head examined. He looked " nervous " to me on the bike , which was expected after that much time off. Those will go away for the most part , and we'll see some great rides out of him this next season.

Man, I hope you guys are right, I am looking so forward to seeing him ride like he did before the imposed vacation. I want to see him live again this year, he makes the show even better when he's on the gate.

I get it. Not what I wanted to see...but I get it.

Marvin rode the MXdN with a wrist injury so bad he had to have surgery immediately following the race and he did okay? I think the number 7 realized he wasn't even close to having the speed to win and took his toys and went home.

And I think you are a dumb ass that doesn't know what he is talking about. How can you compare to different people with two different wrist injuries? I don't know that Marvin had to have surgery " immediately following the race". I think it was scheduled for later that week.

The difference is actually a big one. Marvin raced all summer with a wrist that probably hurt like hell some times. James said his wrist was hurt AND he had not raced for 15 months.

Those are two riders with two completely different scenario's going on wouldn't you think? Marvin also had an adaptive brace that he had a chance to get used to. James was trying to race with a wrist he may of just hurt...why risk further damage now , instead of doing the smart thing , and pull out and get it ready for SX 16'?

James made the right choice.

can someone shed some light, I was under the impression that a rider gets disqualified if he gets outside assistance during a race, except in pit lane.

Someone helped James up with his bike.....

Different rules towards outside help in the GPs and Supercross/US Motocross.

Most of the hype was by all of us here. I bet he knew he'd be off a little.. Ya know James is pretty much 5 years past his prime.. But he still normally runs top elite pro speed and top elite pro speed is top 3 anywhere to me..We will see him come Anaheim 1. I really don't think we'll see James as blazing fast like he was 4 - 5 yrs ago ever again or 10-11 yrs actually. He was faster in 04 than he was in 2012...so... that being said, he's still as capable as Anyone to win races.. Championships is much harder for stew nowadays.. Deep in everyone's heart though they know Stewart can very well easily win the championship if he gets his shit together.
Nobody can deny that!
