Say some prayers for the people of Bastrop and Smithville (where Andrew Short Lives). They have it 15% contained from what I read but this is the 2nd time in a few years this has happened in this area.

We've had a few small fires in San Marcos (about an hour away), but goodness that's pretty crazy.

I saw five Blackhawks heading out of Beaumont earlier today. Did not look like they were heading west, but I saw them being used to drop water on the news yesterday. Hopefully they get it under control soon. Lots of scorched acreage still out there from the last fires.

Maybe Subway Tom will poke his head in with a report???

Prayers sent for all involved around there. Those images look just like the ones a few years ago.

The only wildfire I've ever experienced was while trail riding (some dumbass was riding without a spark arrestor...) and it was no joke. I can't imagine one that big...

Prayers go out to those living in that area

There were record setting rains and floods out in that area of Texas earlier this year. Crazy.

Proof? Where? I can't imagine a modern bike starting a fire from no sparky? Good luck down there. That's gnarly.

I was in Austin this week and the smoke rolled in from the east like a massive storm. It was crazy. Let's hope for the best for the folks that live in that area.

The fire is basically in the same spot as 2011 fires that were way worse. We live about 10 miles away by the way the crow flies. If it was to ever make it here I have enough water cannons to put it out.

Took this yesterday afternoon on I-10 about 35 miles south of Bastrop near Flatonia. Getting gnarly. Hope this "cool" weather we're seeing helps out some. No rain in the forecast.....

RPM, That second picture is BRUTAL! I drive through Bastrop pretty regularly on my way to Shreveport from SA, you can still see all the burnt trees and new rebuilt houses popping up everywhere.

Pretty sure all of those pics are from the 2011 fires. The first one definitely is, because there are new buildings in Austin that aren't in that pic. The new fire is bad, but is "only" 4000 acres compared to 40,000 in 2011.

They are doing controlled burns to try to protect the houses that burned down in 2011. They dont want people who rebuilt in 2011 to have to rebuild again. Humidity is up and winds are down today, so that is good news.

Yes those pics are from 2011. It's not nearly as bad, but my wife's agency is out assisting people that are being evacuated in Smithville. Setting them up in hotels and such. About 400 so far. Something like 40 homes gone. Very sad.

That sucks. I was in Flatonia lastnight and driving back to Seguin I couldn't see a damn thing all the way to Luling because of the smoke. Hopefully it slows up!!

I drive from Seguin to Houston pretty regularly and am shocked at how many controlled burns they're doing here lately. I know they're doing right but it's insane how many acres just on 10 are burnt.

Its going to take decades of controlled burns to get rid of the excessive undergrowth which causes small fires to turn into big fires. Decades of bad policy will take decades to correct.

Flatonia...Luling? Just stop it. 6 am and you've got me wanting some Joel's and City Market BBQ already.

Hahahaha. I don't mind it too much, compared to Houston traffic and mayhem in general...it's great! Nice and quiet. Moved out here for work because it was close (enough) to the yard in Floresville and found a decent place. However I've been laid of since April, will be heading back to Sugar Land in a couple months. Can't find anything out here so back to the madness of Houston I go.

Yeah, but the problem is that we haven't had any measurable rain since June. It is dry as F*&K out here.
