Why is it 250F riders get very good paying rides to race a regional SX series that has no live coverage and mostly 2 week delayed TV ?

Some of these 250F guy's making 500k and up , TV cannot be the reason here.

The last few years the 250's SX races were on Tuesday's 3 days after the race. Now the 250 class outdoors were delayed a week or two.

TV is important to the growth of the sport in general. Sponsership(OEM) in general, can be attributed to promoting 250f sales.

The average person channel surfing who stops and watches mx does not know or care what size bikes are racing. It is a freak show to them......they just want to see huge get-offs and crashes. Same reason I only watch talledaga during the nascar season. If there are not big crashes I change the channel. Which is the same thing they do.
I'm surprised Monster does not start paying riders to crash during races to get camera time.

TV is important for any sport plain and simple. They all vie for tv coverage/time.

TV is important for the simple reason it creates interest. Rekindles past memories for Dad and kids want to do the whoops on their bicycles. With places like Saddleback closing it limits the kids going to watch their friends race and then wanting to race themselves.

How many and who exactly are making 500k and up? And why, really, is it any of our business what anyone makes racing?

Whats a baseball player make these days. Without TV they would be making a mere fraction of that. Five million a year to throw a ball from left field to home base? Comeon. Really?

Jay what you are seeing is the salaries the industry could support from within at the time. Things are different now I can tell you that.

TV dollars would certainly add to that by the way of extra exposure for sponsors, and possible revenue from competing networks, but as long as the promoters are paying, or in this case substantially subsidizing the production costs it really isn't a benefit to anyone financially.

I used to watch every MX/SX event that came on TV. I craved it, couldn't wait for it to come on. Now I don't watch any of it because it's so boring. Except for the start, it's the same two or three riders on screen during the whole race. Live race coverage sucks. The post race interviews really suck. "My X Bike was like really hooking up with my X tires and my XX motor. I'd like to thank XXX and XXX and XXX. I mean, you know, like I would have won if the lappers weren't in the way. The track was like so one lined, there was no like place to pass." How about a real interview with somebody that ate shit? How about an interview with the last guy to make the main? Hell, even an interview with one of the dozer operators would be better than some of the stupid crap they do now. I'd rather watch "Winners Take All" again. Yeah, our sport needs TV coverage, it just needs to be good TV coverage. How many times are we going to BASTARDIZE the sport of motocross for the sake of a few ignorant new fans that don't even care how motocross is scored? How many more changes will be made just so it will fit in a one hour show? One moto, Blue Plate, Red Plate, Lites, No Numbers, Permanent numbers, Night Nationals, Saturday Nationals, Transponder racing, No Overall Winner, 500s too big, 450s good, 450s too big, 125s too little, 2 Strokes too slow, 4 Strokes too loud, Tracks too easy, Tracks too hard, Races too long, need to shorten for TV. What the hell? Do you think they need to shorten NASCAR? It's only four friggen hours. Why don't Monster Trucks and NASCAR have sound tests? I don't know how to score golf, tennis, gymnastics or a bunch of other sports. But I do understand the physical fitness, the training and practice required to excel. I do watch those athletes perform and I am impressed. I do understand that it's not easy to hit the little white ball into a four inch hole in the ground that you can't even see. They have 18 motos, we have 2. Is it that hard to add? WTF, their announcers whisper. We want to be mainstream, but we get pissed when some poser wears a FOX hat from KMart. We thirst for outside sponsors, but we've had them. What happened to Wrangler, Coors Light, Mr. Phibb, Chevrolet? We just need to figure out how to keep them. Maybe we don't need to be like NASCAR. Maybe we just need to be a little different from everybody else. Motocrosser, sounds kinda cool to me. dirtbikemike
