All I can say is have fun getting the stock header pipe off the bike.

Some advice for those that end up having to do it. You have to remove the shock to do it without bending the stock header pipe. To remove the shock, you have to remove the subframe. There is no way around it. Dont waste time trying to figure out a way... there just isnt.

That is crazy. Let us know how you like it. What exhaust did you put on it?

drop down the pull rod on the linkage and let the shock drop down past the swingarm, take out bottom subframe bold and loosen top bolts so subframe has a little play. work it out. you dont have to actually remove the subframe

I've had the shock out of my 15.5 FE450 at least 4 times & all you need to do is take the seat and the exhaust side number plate off and take the lower link bolt and both shock bolts out. Drop the shock down & turn the reservoir forward (I think) and wiggle the shock out the hole in the subframe. You do not need to take the subframe off or even take the subframe bolts out.

I would say I will try that again next time, but thankfully the FMF system does not require a rediculous process lol

To clarify... I removed the subframe bolts and left the airbox boot clamped on to the throttle body. So technically the subframe was not removed... just moved.

I installed the FMF 4.1 w/ megabomb headed. I rode the stock bike and one with the same system at a KTM demo day and I was impressed.

Digger are you saying the muffler does not even need to be pulled? Does the FE have the same larger res. as the 16's?

Sorry... yes the muffler has to be pulled. It's super easy though. If you already have the FMF system on you just remove the bolts that hold the muffler on & slide that off and then take the 2 springs of the mid pipe and slide that off also & then drop the link and pull both shock bolts and wiggle the shock out through the hole on that side.

does it even matter which end of link (frt or back) gets dropped?

I dropped the link by pulling the back bolt out & leaving the bolt up front in the frame in.

Edit - the easiest way top remove the shock with the standard exhaust still on was featured in the august issue of MXA. (sorry about referring another publication).

Method: remove seat, side plate and muffler. Remove forward bolt on shock link. drop shock down and come out backwards towards the rear wheel. Piece of cake doing it that way.
