What didn't you like about the KTM? I went to a demo day as well and wasn't real pumped on the 450 overall but the things I didn't like, I'm banking on being able to tune out. Most notably, the forks. I've never ridden a Kawi 4 stroke which is why I'm leaning KTM. It's a "the devil you know" scenario. I'm coming off Suzukis which I've been on since 2010. I didn't get a chance to ride the 350 and I'm kind of kicking myself for that.
I know if it was set up for me it would be fine, but I just feel more comfortable on the Kawasaki. I have owned several KTMs (the last was a 2009 450SXF) and I probably could have gone either way. Maybe I was expecting too much after all the hype of the new KTM. Plus the higher price of the KTM and the fact I have spare wheels for the Kawasaki swayed me. One of my best friends owns the dealership and sells both, so dealer performance wasn't a factor.

I got to ride one on weds night! It was awesome, to be fair I am a Kawi guy. I've had every KX450F except 06 and 09. It still has a similar handling qualities in my opinion just better all around overall and I think that was due to the weight reduction. The track I was riding was dry and all marbles so I don't have a real good feel on how good it turns quite yet. The motor is really good too I feel (I always leave the green or stock mapping plug in) it was a little softer than my 15' on the bottom but I feel like it pulls smoother and stronger thru the mid. The forks and shock felt fine but they are the same or close to the 15' so I had my setup punched into the 16' right away. The bike does feel a tiny bit smaller and I dint notice any goofy edges or catches on the body work. Hope this helps a little.

Good video with Nick Wey testing the 2016. http://motocross.transworld.net/videos/2016-kawasaki-kx450f-first-impression-2/#b5CkBqYWKPiiAQtB.97
Nick is a funny guy... the out take at the end made me chuckle! Tongue

Friend rode his 16 this week, said felt noticeably lighter when lifting around and like a 250F on track compared to his 2011. He loved how it held the inside line. Power wise, he was in break in mode and was using the standard plug in. Not pushing too hard. Really quiet exhaust.

I'm also a die hard Kawi guy but the 16 KTM450SXF is tempting me. Can get great deals on the KX but an SXF I'll be paying MSRP. What to do...what to do.

If I chose the KTM, I'd take the E-leg off if possible. No weight limits where I race.

I'm not brand loyal, I'd buy a 2016 YZF. They come in Yellow lol. When I did race I was on Kawies. KTM200 is my all time favorite bike.

Apparently. All my X-mas's will come at once in 2017.

BTW, the 2016 production bikes won't be anywhere near the light weight of what RD#5 is riding ATM. The production model Kawies may even be lighter than the Kato's next yr?
new KTM's have no provision for a kick starter on the cases, its electric or nothing. you could gut the starter motor to get rid of the charging system and run it "TOTAL-LOSS" like the factory guys do.

As for weight, the production bikes are actually coming VERY close to the minimums for AMA pro competition

I was bouncing between waiting for a '16 KTM or Kawi, but bit the bullet. Just picked up a 2015 leftover myself. $7100OTD. Couldn't justify the 2016's being over $2500 better.

I've seen people get 2015's near the mid 6's OTD, but i couldn't press this dealer any lower and didn't want to wait much longer to get a bike.

I'm on my phone so I cant see where you're from but leftovers near me are going for $6100 OTD. Either way, you won't be disappointed with the '15 so congrats on the purchase! I love mine. I'll be getting a '16 next year when the '17's come out

Congrats! It's really weird how the picture makes the spokes look green.

I wouldn't sweat these clowns acting like you overpaid. $1600 under MSRP OTD for a shiny new 15 KX450 is a perfectly fine deal. Smart buy.

No sweat! I think i got a decent deal and they threw in a bunch of goodies with the bike. I didn't pay any extra for the graphics or spoke skins. I'm coming off a 2000 YZ 250, so this is probably going to be a night and day difference!

That's a decent price for that bike, there are some states where the taxes and fees can't be gotten around.

Congrats to all new bike owners, the kawi looks a sweet bike

I got mine during friday, mounted the pile of goodies I had and went to the track on saturday to brake it in.
So far I'm impressed, handles well and what a midrange! Forks were a bit harch to start with, but as the bushings settled it got better and better. A few more days finding the right settings and we are ready to race. Smile

I have got to get a new stand...

Picked mine up about 3 weeks ago. $8300otd. Ordering a pc exhaust this week and going to Budds creek Saturday to ride. First bike since an 08 so I'm sure I'll have the stamina of a 17 year old on prom night.

Limited Decal. Loaned them the bike for a few days to get templates. The quality of their vinyl is top notch compared to a lot of big name comaonies I've seen. They did all the traders racing bikes.

I know two guys at the track one old guy and on younger guy. They both bought one and they hated it and trade it in.One got a husky 2015 instead and the other one got 2015 honda 450 instead. These were their complaints:
Constant whining out of the clutch
Low on power
Big gap between 3rd and 4th gear
Both hated the forks

Nice! Tyler did a nice job on those graphics. I'll see you up at budds on Saturday. I'll be on the 2015 kx450 #345.

Low on power and he traded it for a Honda? Interesting.

selling ANY 450 saying that it is low on power is a bold statement.
