Would be nice to see a longer lap for sure but the times should hopefully drop like a stone on this surface.

I don't think lap time is really that important when the race distance is a time period and not a number of laps. Hyvinkaa the times were 1:30 in free practice and that's a great track, times were 1:40+ by end of the weekend

It looks like the battle in this category is pretty intense, example:
Zach Pichon is currently 20th (I think it is his emx first race and he is probably one of the youngest).
He is 20th, but at 2 seconds of the 5th place, and 3 seconds of the 3rd one.
A good start is pretty much a must in this category !

it's a joke ....

YS is complaining some organisers did'nt prepare the track the way it should be, this season .... and then they lay down a track just a few days before the Gp ...

Great to see the track builders using some creativity and not just building a track full of straights and four table tops...

It's sand jamma. You'd be wasting your time trying to build intricate sections. Just lay the material down and let it form the way it's gonna form. You can guarantee by tomorrow evening it will be more technical than any supercross. That's the beauty of sand.

Im not talking intricate sections, but dump a few heaps around at least to break it up a bit. All it is is flat out straights, there's no imagination whatsoever.

It looks like the kind track you see on the side of the road in france where you pay a few euros for 10 minutes on a PW80.

Zach Pichon is 2X 125 SX Champ and 2X 250 GP Champ Mickael Pichon's son. Kid is young and already killing it in French SX championship. Look forward to hearing from him in next years.

I have to agree. It would've been easy for them to build a track with loads of jumps in it to try and make up for the lack of elevation change, but what they've done is created a track which appears to have pretty good flow and will get choppy and rutted. It may look flat out and easy, but we can see from the disparity in the free practice times already that this will not be a track that everyone can go fast on.

I am a big fan of MXGP and have been for many years but I don't get this track.

The cost of bringing all this sand in, the construction of the track and the massive clear up operation can't really be worth it can it?

Perhaps I'm getting old but I'm sure there is a natural venue somewhere to design a fantastic track that can cater for all the spectators etc.

Is it just me?

The fear that this is going to become the norm is what I imagine is eating some people most. Experiments like Dublin, Istanbul and a few others don't do anything to ease those fears. This is going to be a killer sand track though AND this at one of the most famous motorcycle circuits in the world. A lot of history has been witnessed from those grandstands.

But one of the most attractive and distinguishing aspects of motocross is how close you can get to the action. How you can stand right up by the fence and cheer your favourite riders on. And how that close proximity to the action allows you to get a greater appreciation of the speed and skills of the riders.

How much of that is lost when you sit in a grandstand 50+ metres away.

If you're that far away then there had better be some outstanding racing and overtaking to watch...

The best think about Lierop is the fact you can get covered in sand. You cant truly appreciate sand tracks unless you are stood right next to them .

Breaking news from Assen youthstream mentioned the track is not spectacular enough. So in the night from Saturday on Sunday the builder is going to make some of the jumps higher

I don't think it's anyone's first choice of a venue (for us fans I mean), but as others have said its one saving grace is the terrain, the sand; which can greatly add to the character of even a flat, boring layout. Though of course I much rather it were at Lierop with the trees and fans lining the circuit. But anyway, looking forward non the less and cheering for Max of course. What a turnaround he's already achieved this yr.

Looks a good surface for max to put more pressure on the mx2 championship leaders barring any mistakes. And shaun should be pretty strong in MXGP too

Does anyone know if Prado does emx250 next year or already mx2? Few weeks ago ktm wasn't sure about it yet if I remember correctly
Either way, this kid will be a star in the near future.
He could be mx2 champ with 17y/o like roczen was.

I think this track will invite for some excellent tight racing! It might not be the best track the riders have been on, but i dont care about that when im watching the race from my couch. I just want some good racing!
