The Machine

I'm a fan of the diesel engine, but in the context of motocross/supercross, diesel seems a little out of place. Emig actually referred to Dungey as "The Machine" during one of the later supercross broadcasts this year, but I can't remember which one.

Just call him God. Or better yet Golden God.

Goldenrod is a street in Corona Del Mar, CA, which is where Dungey is renting a house. It intersects with Pacific Coast Highway so it's easy to notice and remember if you're down in that area. That's a great area to be by the way, very affluent, artists and big $$ executive homes by the ocean.

He referenced it in the MXNATION video in the part where he said he didn't like the nick "diesel" and when asked what nickname he would like he said something like, "i don't know, I saw a street sign the other day it said "Goldenrod", so that sounds good".

Then he and his wife preceded to turn purple from embarrassment. Class act...such a good dude.

Yea I saw that but "Golden Rod" doesn't really seem to represent anything. It's weird.

Isn't Ron Lechien already the Machine ? I know it's from a different era but still...

Nickname basics as I understand it.... not everyone needs one, you don't get to pick your own, and if you like it it needs to be changed, and they just sort of happen and then they stick. Dungey is probably going to stay the diesel regardless who likes it or not, it's sort of set in stone already isn't it ? You don't get to pick. We know a guy who's known only as "Cat Shit" Some friends were thinking of funny names for him and he said, "I don't give a fuck, you can call me Cat Shit for all I care" "Ok Catshit, you got it" He's been catshit for years now Laughing
Catshit, lol priceless!

a good friend of mine wanted our group of moto-friends to call him Rick James, this was around the time that Dave Chappell was killing the comedy world and his Rick James bits got to be so famous.

we all thought it was gay, well one night i was watching the movie "Radio" and took a picture of Cuba on the screen holding the radio up to his ear. i set it as my buddies picture on my phone and started calling him Radio, he fucking hated it lol. now our entire group of friends calls him Radio, and now he doesn't give a shit and probably even likes it.

most of my friends call me Gary because the TLD rep screwed up my registration at the Day In The Dirt one year. i hated it but it stuck, now i usually introduce myself as Gary because people don't fuck it up.

I wasn't aware, but after a quick Google search, it appears that you are correct (In case your question wasn't rhetorical). Multiple sources refer to Lechien as the Machine. Mixing nicknames within the same sport is no bueno, so I suppose Diesel isn't all that bad. Turbo diesel sounds too "x-treme" and Golden Rod is just downright creepy.

I met a kid in college who I immediately started calling "douchebag." As bad as it sounds, it was all in good fun and we turned out to be great friends. This was eight years ago; my friends still call him "DB."

As to "The Diesel," like with profanity and slurs, when people tell others that a term is off limits, it just gives the word more power.

When people tell me not to call Dungey The Diesel it just makes me want to do so even more.
