Dean raced four motos at REM Glen Helen on Saturday as a warm-up for Unadilla. He wanted to say thanks to REM promoters Frank and Myra Thomason.

Yup, always tell the kids that REM is a great place to put in some hard motos for training, its on Sat but they usually get through their motos pretty quick so everyone gets out of their fairly early, always have a good time there for sure

I love how the pros got a long race, even though it could be longer. All the races that have pros do 6 laps is a joke.

I think it originated from Saturday saddleback. I remember a riders meeting where the guy talking said , "all motos are 13 laps, pros are 18............good luck".

REM started in 1986 at Carlsbad. I raced my first REM early in December of 1987 aboard my 79 450 Wheelsmith Maico.

I think WWOBERG is referring to the concept of MX racing on a Saturday in SoCal.

And yes it was at Carlsbad until the late 90's when the land was being sold. REM moved to the Glen Helen REM track then and Bob Morales of ASV levers fame ran the Carlsbad Saturday races for a few years..........til the bulldozers took over.

Rock, I concur on the REM thing, Frank and his wife are terrific people and they do a great deal for motocross out there. He always makes sure Glen Helen has top-notch flaggers for the national, and the weekly races they organize at REM are a very cool thing.

Either way you are riding a MX bike and that is never a bad thing. Can't speak to the practice riders blowing the doors off mr. weekendracer comment except to say talk is cheap. Smile

My biggest eye opener recently (6/2013) was developing a new found respect for single track riders. That stuff is hard to ride especially when you haven't been a on a bike in 2.5 years. Regardless my respect for people without numbers on their bikes has gone up substantially plus there are more of them than there are of us so God bless 'em. Personally I am not into single track as it is too much work and not enough flow but to each their own.

ML512-Definitely! BTW have you raced with REM ever? If not I strongly encourage it. Great track prep, long motos, short day and a feeling of camaraderie and family. Good times

Better yet, soften up your suspension a few clicks on your CRF and and roost some desert or mountain single track with your race numbers, 19" rear, and maybe a camel back... the diehard off road guys really hate getting smoothly past by a guy that raced moto the week before!~ Laughing

I think REM "only" races 40 or 42 weekends out of the year. Regarding your "even if it is the vet lay-out" please race there before assuming anything. My suggestion is to time your arrival when Frank and Myra are running 20 minute motos.

I am positive you won't find anything "vet" like about the track but rather will find everything "moto" about the track. Lot of people prefer the smooth jumpy tracks in SoCal (particularly the professional practice riders) and that's cool but the people who are motocrossers know where to go to race MX.

It is way closer to being a Vet track than a "Moto" track. The track is short and hilly but it doesnt have jumps like you see across the way on the National track. I am not saying it isnt fun because it is but for you to suggest that there is nothing Vet Like about the track is completely wrong.

It sure seems like you have to put down other tracks while talking up REM. Do you consider Cahuilla Creek or the Pala main track smooth?

Point noted and well taken. My comeback is it depends on what your definition of a MX track is. REM in my definition is a real MX but of course it isn't the Glen Helen National track.

seth505-Sorry if my description comes across as putting them down but riding on smooth tracks with jumps on them isn't my idea of MX. Most people know my position on jump-itis. It is my belief the focus on jumps and not rough tracks has led more the to "pussyficiation of MX" more so than any safety or noise measure. To your question I have only practiced at Cahuilla Creek and only saw the first National at Pala. Once was enough.

I will leave you with a question and apologize if you've answered it before. Have you raced REM before?
