Not kissing ass...the Factory Zooks are by far the cleanest, sexiest looking bike out there.

...the only thing that bugs me is the green motorex decal on the front fender, but i know its gotta be there. Whistling

I've used up my allotment of questions, but want to say thanks to Brandon and GuyB for this weeks QNA, and also wish Brandon and the Yosh team good luck this weekend and the rest of the season. Brandon definitely delivered the goods in this thread and has undoubtedly made himself many new fans in the process. Thanks again, and great job Brandon.

Thanks for taking the time for us, this is awesome! My question - Considering it's every Joe-shmo's dream to ride one of these factory bikes for a practice session just to see how it would feel to ride a bike that's set up for a factory rider, how does it feel? Obviously it would be incredible if the suspension, etc is set up for you, but I mean riding the bike as it's set up for BB. I'm sure you've taken it out for some ride time. My guess is it would feel like absolute crap for us normal speed folks considering we're going nowhere near fast enough to make the suspension work. But maybe not since you're the size of a normal dude and BB tips the scales just into the triple digits. haha

PS - Sorry for posting on IG that it looked like a drunk dude put on BB's seat cover. It was all in good fun and you earned another fan when you posted back. lol!
Haha! Oh, you're THAT guy! Cheerful Grinning no harm, no foul bud. We're good!

I've ridden Millsaps MX practice bike on a really fun track that I used to rip on in GA. It was a totally different machine. Extremely stiff and harsh, and difficult to turn. Those guys have a way steeper curve on their suspension, forks especially, as they ride much more forward than the average Joe, and WAYYYY faster.

Awesome and informative answers, Brandon! Thanks for dropping by.

Quick (or possibly long) question here: In your opinion as a mechanic and someone who's very much involved with the industry on a daily basis, is there anything more as an industry that we could be doing to make the sport a little safer? It's an inherently dangerous sport and always will be, but I can't help but feel safety technology hasn't kept up with bike development. Thanks in advance!
I'll say this first:

There's only so much safety involved in a sport when it includes 2 wheels, an engine, and big jumps.

To be completely honest with you, I have never though about how to make riding safer (I mean, it would be nice to be able to educate some flaggers on proper flagging protocol, but that's another story). In my opinion it's up to every rider. Blake wears about every piece of safety equipment that he can, except his wrist braces that he shed at the beginning of the season. So basically, it's up to you to wear the equipment, and know your limits on the bike while also being aware of your surroundings.

You really stumped me on that one. I think maybe it's better to ask a racer that question.

Thanks man! The guys at N-Style really hooked the kit up.

Sometimes the sponsor colors match the bike colorway and sometimes they don't. Just the way it is; but, I bet Motorex loves that their decal stands out on the bike! Grinning

Out of the few QNA's that GuyB has taken the time to set up, this one is by far the best yet! I know you've heard it from the other members on this forum, but I just want to send out a big thank you for your time Brandon! This topic is extremely informative and entertaining to read through compared to the others, and you have answered the most questions as a guest. It is obvious that you are a very knowledgeable mechanic too- Blake is lucky to have you wrenching for him! My question is : With BB being new to the 450 class, did you find it more challenging to get the right set up for SX or MX? With each series presenting different styles of riding, I would imagine one series would be more difficult to adjust to over the other. Sorry if this is a bit long Grinning Again, thanks for your time and answers! Smile

Thanks for the good words!

You know, it's really hard to compare. We never really had an "oh sh*t" moment in our evolution on either series. There's been a "Steady Eddie" approach from everyone on the team. Even Blake. We had to make improvements from day one. He's had to make some improvements with himself in the 450 class in general as well. But to honestly compare one from the other...I can't. The only thing I can say, non bike related, is that he's learned the benefit of recovery...especially in supercross with the long and grueling season. 15 weeks straight is pretty intense. The kid is a workhorse for sure, but he realizes the importance of peaking on race day.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Brandon!

What is the typical life span of your hard parts? Such as; frame, subframe, rims, spikes, hubs, triple clamps, axles, etc?

It really depends on the part, amount of time, and conditions it's being exposed to. Our practice frames, we try not to put more than 30 hours on them. Race frames, we will use 2-3 per year, then those are shuffled down as test/practice frames until they're timed out. Rims are as needed during the season. If they start to get roached or a little flat, I'll cut the spokes, bring the hub home, check/replace the bearings, and rebuild. With axles, it's important to keep all the moisture out of them with contact cleaner, or a torch, before greasing so they won't get pitted...which can lead to failure. Once they become pitted and worn, then I'll replace. Axles, pivots, and bolts are more of a visual/as needed change.

HAHAHAAHAH YES! I love it. It's definitely tough sometimes. Lots of eating out and few home cooked meals unless you're back home. Then you just get lazy after about 10 weeks straight of racing. lol. I like to enjoy myself at some of the local places we travel to, then in the off season, get back on the program. I'm about 3 weeks into my "off season" right now, so come a1, I'll be dialed again!

How much money do teams shell out to ship engines and suspension back and forth to California and the tracks?
Are they overnighted?
Are the shipments shipped to the tracks or somewhere else? The temptation to open them would be overwhelming. Laughing

Let's just say, A LOT. Grinning

We do have to overnight most times because of the time of labor involved with dissasembling, inspecting, and assembling suspension and engines. Normally, they are shipped to the hotel that we're staying in.

Thanks for stopping in. I appreciate your time. I won't ask about bike stuff. Hell, I work on all my shit but I have a poor maintenance cycle so I wont even bother. I've read the entire thread and like them, a lot, very informative.

I'll ask about you? How old are ya? Family (married, kids)? Where did you grow up? Who introduced you to riding bikes and what was your bike skill level (a, b,c,d)? Do you still ride.

Again, thanks. You've been awesome to follow in this thread.

Brandon,

You really need to figure out what marker it is you are using! For real, the Expo's just are not cutting it.

Thanks for chatting today. I would say good luck tomorrow but luck is for losers.

Cheers my friend,
