Second, my constructive criticism would be that this is premature if you are asking for help with her rehab. You don't know how long she will be in the hospital, how long she will be in rehab, the amount of her bills, who is going to be responsible for what, etc. You do not have to pay cash to get her out of the hospital, they will send you invoices with terms. In the meantime you will be working on the track and its insurance company to cover the bills. They will certainly use the release I'm sure she signed. Hopefully she has her own insurance coverage that will help. Once the smoke settles and you actually know what is covered and what is her responsibility, that is when you share the story with the world and ask for help (if that is your thing). Just my .02, best of luck.
Just another example of the negativity many (but not all fortunately) of you like to spew. Glad I had parents that raised me to have compassion.
EDIT GrapeApe ever think for a second you are in a much better situation to be offering advice given there is no stress on you? First the kid gets crucified then you tell him how he should have done it. How exactly does that help this family now?

Having a go at GrapeApe for using and suggesting some common sense, says a lot about yours, or lack there of.
I'd suggest. If the kid has been working away from home, he may not actually be a "kid". Don't you lot drive on the same roads as unsupervised 16yr olds? LOL.
Yeah, I know. "common sense just ain't that common these days". Seriously, have a bit of a think about it.
Dont know how many races I've done that had totally clueless EMTs or whatever they claimed to be.
I had my own that was my pit guy,I knew if my digger was bad he would know what to do.

Speak for yourself
I wish you're mom a full recovery. That is definitely a freak accident. at her age and the extent of the injuries is going to require alot of rehab time for sure. Probably 6 months. This has to be stressful on the entire family.
I am glad though that if I make it to age 66 I won't be still making truck payments on my chosen vehicles.
My intent wasn't to be a smartass, it was to let the OP know that he shouldn't need to worry about the tax ramification from the GoFundMe account. Instead he can focus on his mothers recovery. Best wishes to her and her recovery.
No one here is being shitty, only cautious.
Granted this guys has plenty to worry about. Last thing he needs is a tax burden hanging over his head as well. Most people don't make good decisions while under stress.
I'm not picking a fight with you...just trying to help this guy out. Doesn't sound like he's thinking long term.
Pit Row
I understand not wanting to get scamed but when I clicked the link this morning I thought it gave an adequate description of the woman who got hurt and what she was about. I believe it also mentioned Retaross by name as a person that was at the track at the time. So her using a fake user name would not be the case. Also the link to the news article gave the story more backing.
Some of you guys trip over yourselves to give money to some guy in his early 20's wearing $100 sunglasses because hes riding a two-stroke but all of a sudden we need to be hyper critical when Grandmas fighting for her life.
Hoping she has a speedy and healthy recovery.
Well the story is compelling, the presentation is horrible.
-He's not a regular poster, but now posts looking for Koenig.
-He then says he didn't want a dime.
-Asks for $28,000 as a number "pulled from his ass" after saying its for a laptop?!?
The whole thing just doesn't feel right. Especially when you consider all the causes out there asking for money. Maybe it's gotten so easy to ask for money, that less people are actually donating and more are increasing how skeptical they are?
I still think donations and fundraising should have its own area...

1.This was posted by her daughter Retta - as the go fund me story indicates when it says "her daughter Retta would be working at the event" My guess is it is the 2 of them in the picture together. It also explains why she was in the flagger hut probably because she has sat there with her daughter before.
http://www.gofundme.com/zhtfss
2.She probably had somebody in the MX world suggest that she post on here for attention
3.Somebody gave her really bad advice when they suggested she put a $ amount on there. Looks like it is gone now.
4.The story is legit I am certain - the track gave $500 already
It definitely wasn't done the best way but I feel for this family. I just think she got some bad advice on how to do it. Sounds like her mom is infact in some pretty bad shape.
I know one thing if it was one of my daughters I wouldn't be pleased with how some of you chose to address the OP on this. You know who you are and not knowing for sure that is probably how you reply on most threads.
Best of all to the OP and the family.
and grape ape hit the nail on the head. original poster fell victim to the "gofund me craze". do your homework before you set those up. Put all the information on it you can, update it often. set goals and definitely list why you need the money. Throwing out 27k as your cap and no listing what that much is needed for...totally threw a red flag. And thats not necessarily the OP's fault. Just needs a little polishing and adjusting and this thread coulda went a whole nother direction in a positive way.
No moral high ground unless you think trying to be civil and have empathy is the moral high ground. Some would say it's only being nice.
