I've got a couple stories. None of them involve getting any swag from the riders or anything like that but are just experiences I had actually riding with some of these guys.

First one is riding in the "Wednesday night club" at the old Iron Mustangs MC track in Brighton MI. Was on the track with Swinkster many times (he's from the same little town I grew up in). We used to have both practice time and a few actual motos at the club. One twist was that we did dead engine starts and I new the trick to shutting down my CR500 properly so it would instantly fire and I always got really good starts. Inevitably Brian would come sailing by me on his 125 just about the time I was feeling like I was going fast. I wasn't going fast lol.

Another story I have is actually racing MX against Scotty Parker a few times in the vet class at Baja Acres a few years back. I could actually run with him on a motocross track (or at least at Baja) He had big cajones just like he did on his flat tracker and wasn't afraid to wick it up and I saw him eat dirt a few times Smile . He is a friend of a friend and a pretty cool guy!

Just remembered this one, I went to the "Parker ride" in St Helen MI back around 2002 I think it was and Larry Pegram was there along with a lot of other fast guys and pros. Larry had a brand spanking new CR450 and I had a brand new YZ 426. We all went out for one of the trail rides and and rode like maniacs all day.On the way back a few miles from the parking area I was up toward the front of the pack and pulled up next to Larry. We were either on a super wide trail or a dirt road and rolling along in 5th gear and just as I roll up to Larry he decides it's wheelie time and I follow suit. We rode side by side stand up 5th gear wheelies for what seemed like forever and it was easily the longest one I ever rode!

edit: Had to throw in the time my son and I stood in the autograph line at Red Bud for Fro's signature. The line was super long and there was a supposed time limit but Jeff stuck around until every last kid got to meet him. I was already a big fan because of his exploits at Red Bud and that just made me root for him that much more.

edit #2 I almost forgot meeting and racing with Gary Jones in 2013 at LL's. I went over to his truck and benched raced with him a couple of times and he was one hell of a nice guy. We talked all kinds of old moto and he told me a lot about his son's career and how he went from being a 4 wheeler champ with basically a factory ride to deciding he wanted to race bikes off road. It was so cool because Gary was my first moto hero as a kid and here I was actually on the track competing with him.

Cool thread! When I was about 12 and RC was on Hondas, my parents brought me to a dealer autograph signing. When it was my turn I asked him to sign a crossbar pad instead of a poster, but the guy standing next to him overseeing the session told me, "No!" RC turned around and said, "It's cool," to the guy and signed the pad anyway. He gave me poster as well. Instant fan for life haha, definitely won't ever forget that.

Gainesville, 1989, first national of the year. Johnny O. was standing between a couple of bleacher seating stands. I saw him and said to myself, "Why not? I've got a story to tell."

So, I walked over and said hello, and told him how I saw him race at Bakersfield's Sprockets Park back in 1977 on an RM125B. I told him how I remembered one time at a night race there they had the winners of 125 expert, 250 expert and open expert, face off in one moto at the end of the evening. Johnny smoked those guys by a long way.

He thought that was pretty cool and asked me how I had ended up in Florida. We chatted for a few minutes more, I wished him luck and that was that. He was cool, and very personable. No "rockstar" attitude or anything like that.

It was so long ago, so I don't really remember, but I think he raced Sprockets a few times back in those days.

So...When you hear stories about Magoo sharing EVERYTHING and giving people he hardly knew "the shirt off of his back"...it's true. Wish I'd kept those leathers; but, they got "paid forward". There are more than a few of us that'll go from smiles...to welling up...when we talk about Danny. That's a really cool thing, to me...and Clutchy...and KMC440.
Dammit Manny ... yep... all I can say.

My top three are: Trail riding with Roncada in Idaho City, a two day riding clinic taught by David Bailey and finally watching Kurt Caselli blow by me in the desert at a speed that I still think is impossible.

Oh yeah one more: I was doing laps at OMC in Boise and there weren't very many people out at the time. Out of nowhere this guy passes me super aggressively, I didn't even realize anyone was behind me, it happened so quickly. I was thinking who is this asshole. As he flew by, I saw that it was Damon Bradshaw. I couldn't stop laughing once I realized I was nearly taken off the track by Bradshaw!

A couple days before Unadilla last year I ran into the Man himself Roger DeCoster at the Newark airport. Just said hello in passing, but wish I could have talked more.

I rode scooters and met Jeff Emig with his young son at the local scooter shop. He is a super nice dude. I was asking him if he was gonna have his kid ride and he was telling me only if he want to because he knows about injuries and how hard it is to make it in this sport.

Also, at Cahuilla Creek I battle it out with Doug Dubach for almost two laps. He is FAST.

I have also met David Bailey several times at my mechanics. They ride those paraplegic bicycles together and David actually knows my father and I by first names.

Actually I have a couple more my self

1. I was riding my BMX at some jumps and out of no where ronnie renner comes up and starts riding the jump on his hard tail. Soon after that I would ride BMX with him and his son a bunch. He also posted a picture of me on his instagram saying " the local style master " that meant a lot coming from the one who could throw super fat whips. However as soon as I started riding my pit bike on the jumps he got mad and we had a little argument on instagram and haven't talked to him since Laughing

2. The same jumps (probably about 2 years ago) Ken Roczen was there riding the jumps! It was insane I was trying to throw cool tricks to impress him. After a while is started talking to him about sushi Laughing

3. At the same jumps again! Ricke fowler was there riding his hard tail. For sure one of the coolest dudes. We talked about the teachers at my school because he went to the same school, very cool guy.

Gary Jones and his family out at Indian Dunes one weekend (in the 70's). Gary was at a picnic table telling the story how a few weeks (maybe months) earlier he had grabbed the holeshot at the USGP. Still remember it like it was yesterday, and have been a Gary Jones fan ever since Smile

Partying with Pastrana and the Nitro Circus crew not once, but twice. Dude even bought and did some tequila shooters with me and my buddies. He is every bit as cool of a down to earth dude in person as you'd think he would be..

Was in Vegas for us open of sx and sat down at a table with one guy at it. It was Fonseca and we chatted awhile but he wasn't too happy about my luck train as he wasn't having any and actually moved over from table to table a few times looking for that magic table I guess. He was cool though. Then I saw Guyb passing and I stopped him and talked for a minute but he was in a hurry and I was in a hand. Lol man I broke that town again that week. Ah good times.

Meeting Travis the first time when my brother rode with him for Rev. 199 and then getting to spend the weekend at his place. One year we partied with KW and some of his friends after the pro challenge and ended up getting kicked out of the hotel bar. We moved the party to his room until we almost got kicked out of the hotel.

I remember KW walking around the Days Inn hotel in Tyler Tx on race weekends when he was racing 60's and just moving up to 80's. I'd be playing pool in the game room and he'd come in. Also 1 time playing pool all I saw was a little bundle of red hair walking by the other side of the table and it was Ricky Carmichael. He raced the 60 classes the next day at Swan mx....

Shooting the breeze one on one with Evan Laugh ridge. Humble person who seemed genuinely nice.

Good question, because they are not all pleasant encounters.

Seeing JS7 in TO after a win made me feel like a teenage girl. Quite pathetic, lol.

Riding at the same local track, the same time as Tallon Vohland and Brett Racine. Getting lapped and Watching how differently the track rutted up when done right! (Fast!) Earlier, Pitting with the Pros at Hangtown, early 70s.

One of the my personal highlights was getting to walk the track for a while with Roger DeCoster. It was at Unadilla at the Trans-AMA before practice and there was tall grass covering the track with just strings of flags outlining the course. He was walking with a mechanic checking out the track. I went over and said hello, and after a minute found myself walking the track with them. He is a really great guy and one of my heros in the sport.

I always thought that Gaylon Mosier was a very personable guy. At another rainy Fall Unadilla Trans-AMA, we had set up a big make-shift canopy to stay dry at the top of the Wall. (This was nothing compared to the people that erected scaffolding condos back in the day. Too bad you can't still do that.) Anyway, Gaylon kept stopping during practice and resting his Maico on the fence in front of us. He'd chat with us a bit and take off. One lap he took a break and jumped the fence and hung out under our 4' x 4' dry piece of ground. For me, those were great days.

Also comes to mind that I had dinner with Shenzi and DV in Orlando...had some beers with Fro and Ralph in Detroit...and split a rack of buds with Brad Lackey! I have been pretty fortunate and love this sport.

Sometime in the late 90s I was at Magoos apartment in Colfax with a friend. Not really sure why, I guess just to say hi but somehow we end up watching the video of his crash with him analyzing what happened. Very surreal having one of your idols growing up doing play by play on his life altering injury.

Lots of memories, but the most memorable for me-

1988 Emig and Stephenson were up and coming Team Green pro riders and I had driven with another local pro to the Denver UltraCross (those Mickey Thompson races). The rider I was with knew them, so we basically hung out all day and night. The only reason I find this memorable, other than how polite they were, was that we hit Burger King for breakfast, ordered Pizza Hut delivery to Denny's room for lunch (right before the race), and after the race hit some nearby restaurant for dinner (Italian I think). Funny how times change regarding diet and training. But it was great to see them have success just a year or two later.

1995 or 1996- MC was "dating" a girl that hung around our group of MXer's (and a couple of them knew him too). I recall it was right after Redbud and he won (July 4th weekend). He flew into Phoenix instead of home to visit with his new female friend. We of course (with or without MC) had a house party going on. He was as friendly and genuine as anyone could be, let alone an icon at the top of his game. Twice that night I recall him just casually talking with us, looking at me, and saying he was grabbing a beer and did I want one too. Not earth shattering, but just really stuck with me as someone who had great success yet was very humble and thoughtful of others. No need for an ego, just hanging out with new friends.

Another one that was memorable, though I was clueless at the time. I had just started riding- for my birthday I got a 1980 KD80 (yes KD). I was just learning to ride and went with a friend and his dad out by the White Tank mountains to some riding area in the desert. I recall watching some incredible riders, one was on a 1981 YZ125 and the other a 1981 YZ80 (this was late 1980). They were like watching gods it was so amazing they could do such incredible things on dirt bikes. I didn't even know it until a few years later when my friend showed me pictures of that day, the 125 rider was Ron Lechien and the 80 rider was Troy Blake (RIP). Wish I still had those pictures.

In 05 I was up at Cahuilla with my older brother and a few of his buddies.

All day long they were messing with me...taking out my front wheel, roosting me, pushing me off the track...all the typical older faster brother bullshit.

Anyways I finally had enough and decided the next time one of them messed with me I was going to ruin em. Sure enough half a lap later someone is revving the shit out of their bike and all I is see a red fender out of my periph (they all road Hondas)....my time to shine

I ride the widest bike I can for a few corners so I can get to the perfect take out section.. A wide open off camber down hill into a right sweeper. I lay off the throttle so I seem like I am letting them pass, and at the last second I go wide left and absolutely punt my brother off the track ( I mean PUNTED him into the weeds )....problem was it WAS NOT my brother. It turned out to be one of the Geico Honda guys (I won't say which one).

Needless to say I am profusely trying to explain myself before he whoops my ass. After a couple minutes he just rode away flipping me off.

At the end of the day I drove past his truck to explain myself after things had cooled down...after a long pause he lets out a slight laugh and said "that was by far the hardest I have ever been taken out...I would have done the same thing to my older brother if I had the chance"

We left on good terms, and through all of my years racing and shaking hands with pros, that interaction sticks out by a mile.

Well I have a couple, not super cool but I think they were awesome..

1. My dad and I scored a deal being flaggers at the Seattle SX in 08 and when we were standing in the tunnel watching all the stuff that goes down before rider intros start, i turn to my left to talk to my dad and he's gone, I look around for a second and spot him a few feet in the other direction just chatting it up with Ryan Dungey, as I turn back to look out in the stadium a dude walks up and stops next time and just casually says what's up..it was none other than James Stewart! Chatted with him about a ton of random stuff, super cool dude!! My dad is still pumped on Dungey being so cool and just acting like a normal dude. Great time!!

2. I bought a couple RMZs back in 2007 and did the Tony D riding school that they had in Boise, ID with special riding coach Bob Hannah!! I remember we were working on corners and I did my thing and came back in line to meet up with my dad and Hannah walks up to me and just says, hey you know you followed the guy in front of you through that corner, I said yeah i should of went to the outside, he says yeah now do 10 push ups! I thought it was confusing yet freaking awesome! He then coached me up for about 5 minutes and then randomly started asking me questions about my graphics! That dude is every bit of awesome that he's made out to be, super cool too! Still have his autographed poster from that day too!
