Remember when the YZ400F first came out? Yamaha said they had done extensive analysis and determined that 400cc was the optimal size four cycle engine for motocross.

I feel that it was only because of a "Bigger must be better" attitude from the consumer that they even increased the displacement size.
It was 360cc for YEAAARS.

Turns out they had it right all along.

what gate just has 30 riders?

at the nats they always have to run LCQs in the morning with more than 10 riders in each class on the gate.

so mxsports doesnt see a problem there.

big jumps are here to stay, and most if not all these guys like them. I would like to see a limit on how many super hucks a lap to have.

at local races I think you can ride a 250 2str in both classes, that is really helpful on the wallet.

4strokes are here to stay, pissing in the wind to try and change it.
There are more races than just the nationals. Wink
How about this one?

Regarding the jumps I don't say that they have to go I just say they might not be needed in that size and amount.

And I don't want 4 strokes to disappear.
We had the same discussion 15-20 years ago when the 1st 4 stroke came up.

So who cares, we cant change anything because it might not be needed.

Sometimes it looks like 2 stroke is an evil thing, is it really? Evil
I ride both and to me both are fun both have pro's and con's!

Is the industry afraid of getting beat by a 10 year old technology. They want to let you think 4 stroke is the best technology ever.

Personally I don't care 4 stroke vs 2 stroke, what ever a rider should choose he should have fun and a good race.
But sanction a technology is not the right way unless I want to force it due to what ever reason.

I would like to know the reason but environmental is not the real reason.
It is more than obvious that the large 4 companies played a significant role here.

My conclusion:
4 strokes will not disappear.
2 stokes will not disappear either

So why not let them race head to head same cc and no matter if modified or not?
This might have the impact that more privateers want to compete on a higher level which they cant right now.

The Pro's don't give a shit how much an engine is they just get it.
A privateer has to pay for it so he cares how much it is.

I thought GPs only have 30 on the gate. It has been that way a while because you have to buy a place on the gate in that series. Locals cant ride unlesd they pay the huge fees.

the rest we have no disagreement on.

I think racing is fine the way it is other than the payout.

oh,and JGR changed 3 engines because they can,the engines were running fine.

at muddy creek I saw #975 on a kawi changing a engine at his van under a ezup with one other guy helping him.

plus, they had to rob it out of another bike.

much respect for that guy.

Another nail in the coffin of our sport, destroyed by the people elected to look after it and their YS partners, injuries are caused by four strokes weight, inertia, and top heavy feel, two strokes were safer to ride fast, easy, but 4 strokes are far more profitable for bike companies, you wanted them, now look whats happening, premier class to be tiddlers!!!

Just mandate DI for 2 strokes. This will push for more development for the 2 strokes. Have 2 classes, a 200cc and 350cc. No extra cc advantage for the 4 strokes.

better suspension is what is causing the injuries, letting riders reach speeds that when it goes wrong it goes wrong.

Don't know regarding 30 riders but even 30 seems to be a problem even in MX2.

Welcome to Vital MX Real MX Fan.

Based on your post I am not sure you've read the Adam Wheeler article. If you had you'd realize just made a case for 250s as the traits you mention are most often associated with 450s.

Here is my biggest concern with letting 2 strokes and 4 strokes race in the same class. Manufacturers (mainly the Japanese) do not want to have to sell 2 extra bikes to compete with their existing bikes.

Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki and Suzuki do not make a competitive 50.

Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki do not make a competitive 60.

Honda does not make a competitive 85.

Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki do not make a competitive 125.

Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki do not make a competitive 250 2 stroke.

Seems like Honda doesn't make very much at all anymore...and if no one else cares to make a 2 stroke, so what. They are all getting their ass kicked by KTM on the sales floor and don't seem to give two shits about that either. Who the hell ever thought we'd be excited over a Husqvarna ever again? Eventually the sport is going to have to look out for itself before it craps out altogether.

Does anyone in the U.S release sales figures on bikes?

We get sales figures ever quarter here in Australia. Just remember at every single level of racing in Australia the 250 class is a cc v cc class, 2 v 4.

In fact in Australian now the 250 Two Stroke can only be raced in the 250 class at any level, you need a big bore kit in them to race the 450 class, thems the rules.

New two stroke MX bikes are readily avaliable from KTM, Yamaha and Husqvarna.

The YZ250 made it into the top ten in sales in the past six months, but Yamaha sold more YZ250F's and YZ450F's

Even in the Enduro market the 2 strokes barley make a dent in the market share.

The only way more manufactures will start re-producing 2-strokes is if the averge joe who is buying their bikes starts buying 2-strokes.

IT is as simple as that.

In saying that Australia is a small market, would be great to see similar sales comparisons from the U.S and more so Europe where there is an even larger choice of two stroke machinery.

As for racing, does not really matter what bikes these guys are on the best guys are going to end up out front no matter what.
