On Sunday night at 250 am. No live news......apparently, News is pre recorded this time of night and there is no option to break in.

How pathetic is tv anymore. No live tv about any off this. I'm really concerned about the injuries of the fans.

An entire car disintegrated in the fence.

That's why they don't want you walking down there when the race is running.

Holy crap, I just watch footage. Glad the fans and drivers were all alright. Engine/trans separated from the car, haven't seen that happen in a while. Damn.

Larson 2 yrs ago.

geoff bodine in the truck was what it reminded me of.

last nite harvick and others were pissed at hamlin for his racing thru out the rsce.

harvick figured he would send hamlin on a slide into the new kyle busch safer wall but it went bad.

they were pasted the finishline about 100 ft when it started.

When I saw it, I had a flashback to Rusty Wallace and Ernie Irvan. Both had some serious crashes with parts flying. I think it was Irvan who had his rear axle flying and twirling down the track.

I was in the Cup pits when Bodine's wreck happened. Every crew chief came running out to see the remains. It scared all the teams that a car came apart like that.

I stayed up and saw it live. Left me breathless and praying for everyone involved. Was a relief to see the crew guys give a thumbs up for Austin D. Glad all the fans are going to be okay.

I wonder if putting a "hockey style" clear barrier up closer to the actual seats would be an option for additional safety? Let the catch fence keep the car inside the track and the clear barrier would help keep some of the smaller debris from hitting the fans but still allow for unobstructed viewing? Just a thought. I'm sure there some flaws in it such as glare, shattering, cost, etc.

High Speed Ovals are nuts. Europe figured this out 50-100 years ago.

Actually, this isn't moto-related, so it has been moved.

Would like to see Daytona take a little of the tri-oval angle out during the track-spectator grandstand overhaul ... and take a couple of degrees of banking out so it isn't a flat out corner ...

Credit where it's due .. thats 3500lb coming at 190 and the uprights and cables did their job. Amazing engineering.

You can't make it all perfectly safe but if you look at the way Daytona is built it could be re-engineered to mitigate some of the exposure to this type of incident. Remember ultimately this track was designed with 1958-9 cars and speeds considered.

My opinion nothing more and nothing less... and yes I've been involved in all types of racing cars as well as bikes so don't start the .. you don't know shit ... garbage.

the only sure cure is to remove those seats and let them go.

it can happen at any track,

take bristol,150mph into the corner, the banking is a ready made ramp, get a car climbing over another and launch it into the stands. Sit at the driver entry all the time,it is entering 3,and ive seen it almost happen many times.
