english translation(my own, so sorry for any language inperfections):

de South African Tyla Rattray has decided not to compete in the World Championship MX1 and try his luck in America. The newly crowned World Champion was going to line up in 2009 on a linkage equipped 450 KTM.

However, after some testsessions,KTM has decided not to be entirely ready to ride with the new linkage system, a decision that Tyla greatly regretted. Tyla's dream has always been to ride in the USA, so after a lot of consideration, they decided to end his contract and leave for the USA where he will ride for the Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team run by Mitch Payton.

jumping in behind villopoto ? villopoto wasnt bothered by tyla all race until the very last corner on the last lap when tyla looked like he was gonna try and make a move. At the end of the day tyla rode smart and stayed close behind probably the fastest rider there that weekend, saw his lines and probably thought to himself im gonna catch alot of people if i stay close 2 this guy.

So why don't you like that? Maybe someone would have bitched about RV doing the opposite, but I know I wouldn't have called RV lame?

Really, what's the problem?

I think that after a terrible first moto and then an awful start to the 2nd Rattray had all but given up so he just thought what the heck, I'll see if I can run (safely) behined Villopoto and see what happens.

I don't think there was any malace or disrespect involved whatsoever - the fact that Villopoto acknowledged Rattray by shaking his hand at the end of the race proves that surely?

Plus 500guy, Im not sure Rattray is going to racing any supercross in the states, he's certainly not renound for his SX skills. Infact I've never heard of Rattray taking part in any SX events full stop. Oh, and he's 23 by the way, same age as Tommy Hahn, Dan Reardon, Brett Metcalfe and only a little older than the likes of Jason Lawrence & Jake Weimer etc...

I'm sad to see Tyla go. He is a great guy and i will miss him in the FIM GP series..

When i think about it.... Everts retired, Smets retired, Pichon retired, Townley moved to the states, Christophe Pourcel moved to the states, Searle is moving to the states, Rattray is moving to the states, in a few years Cairoli probably also will move to the states... Is watching the GP series live really worth the 50 euro they ask for entry fee ? All the fastest riders are retired or move away...

The price of the event has almost become an issue. I'm still a bit pissed by the MXDN event with a price of like $ 100 or something. I think for a day with free paddock it should cost less than € 50, which is like $ 65.

Maybe not an issue?

I don't really bother who is racing the GPs. I will always attend since they will always be faster than me and all my buddies, plus I don't have the opportunity to see anything else.

I would watch the GPs if 99 % of the field left, and my buddies where forced to race. GPs is bigger than us all. Existed before my existence, will exist when I'm dead as well.

My GF grandfather and his generation started it all in the woods of Europe. If it that was watchable, I don't get how this can fail?

Mumrah, fast GP riders have been moving to the states every season or so for the past 10-20 years, its nothing new - There will always be another batch of fast kids to take their place... its continuosly evolving and Grand Prix racing will always be the definitive World Championship...

...even if they keep charging fans stupid money to get in. But then I guess thats the way the world is going, every things become too commercial these days.

I attend a lot of GP's every year. I travel across europe to see them but i wonder if they aren't going a little overboard with the price. I mean.. 50 euro's is not cheap. For that money i want to see the best riders out there. I know that there is another series (AMA) where also very good riders will ride and some of them will probably be faster then the guys that ride the GP's. I have no problems with that. But to see all the fastest GP riders move away just shows that there is something wrong. Something is not adding up.
To me if feels like the best are going away so the quality of the series reduces. (I know that this is not correct because the guys just behind the best are improving every year, but it just feels like that). But although the quality reduces the price goes up. Something is not correct.

I think Luongo should take a long hard look at himself and think about the GP series. Is he really doing the right thing ? Is it normal that you don't pay the riders ? Where does all that money go ? The money for entrance fees, VIP cards,... where does it all go ?

Exactly, thats exactly the problem - Youthstream. Their whole business model is based on trying to package the sport for TV which means big bucks. They charge promoters ridiculous amounts of money just to stage a GP, the facilities have to match their high standards (which includes a 'tv friendly' track with certain lap times and even a specific number of corners!!!). This in means added cost and then you have things like amenities, health and safety licence, security, medics, police, car park attendants etc etc, it all adds up and the promoter has to pass this on to the fans. Most promoters make a loss which exactly is why we haven't had a British GP at the same for two consecutive years for god knows how long!

Bulgaria (I think its Bulgaria) have it right. Their government invests in the GP and this makes the entrance fee very reasonable for spectators.

GP riders have been moving to the states for years for four things; exposure/status, money, supercross and sun! Simple as that. If you'd achieved what you want to in GP's it seems a natural progression to me.

bulgaria costs about $4 entry... and i think they sold me two tickets, cheeky bastards!

with that being said...i don't the riders should influence the price. in fact if you think about it, MX1 (the premier class in the GPs) hasn't actually lost any talent for the coming year (in fact they have gained Cairoli)... the MX2 class is weaker, but they were going to be weaker anyway.

i think the talent in both series' is going to be pretty spectacular for '09... mx1 from 08 + cairoli.... mx2 you've got a LOT of young talent, simpson, boissiere, karro etc... and obviously we all know the good AMA riders... just focus on the positive's Smile

I'm just saying him trying to race with Villopoto after being lapped was lame.
What exactly was he supposed to do, seriously?

Roll over and play dead like the rest of the US riders do when RV or JS are on the track?

yep and its and easier lifestyle for some1 like tyla - he said so himself- one country all year the same tracks every year, same language, better climate more like SA and if he does well in sx mabye more money... he can settle in the states.. he has achieved his aim in the GP to be world champion now he wants to enjoy his life by moving to the states and racing dirt bikes in a similar standard and trying to achieve his 2nd goal of winning an AMA title but honestly I think thelifestyle is the most appealing to the southern hemispher riders...belgium or florida.... its not much of a choice esp when your have lived in Belgium for 8 years and want to try somthing new. I dont think he will get any faster in the states though outdoors if he was to come after a year or too , but he will be more aggressive and better at supercross which is what he needs to do well in the states

Exactly. I don't get what the problem is? Oh I'm lapped I'm supposed to just give up and pull off the track now?

yet the GPs have the best racing and the deepest field in MX1 next season than maybe ever...
RAmon, Cairoli, Phillipearts, Coppins, Billy, De Reuver, Strijbos, Desaille, Leok, Swanepole, Nagl, Barragan, Pourcel, mellote back on a good bike, De Dycker - thats 15 guys that can win a race plus DV, just to get in the top 20 will be an achievement next season!!

In reality most GP riders stay in the series... buit the ones that leave get a higher profile for leaving by going to the states suddenly they =become world class rdiers in the minds of the americans when the same rider a year ago was a 2nd class rider... when he proves his speed in the states you realise how good he was .... but they don't get the credit or big name unless they do that, the big names race in the states but not necessarily the best riders reed is a bigger name than nagle but not any faster ... yet he would be more sought after by both series.

Crystal clear. The promoter for the track in Nelspruit South Africa will probably not run the GP at his track next year for the reasons you mention. He took a pounding on his pocket and has a bitter after taste from sucking Youthstream's **** with building infrastructure and getting the facility up to scratch. Spectators at the track moaned about visibility whereas the tv footage was superb. However he only got gate money.

exaclty motocross is about going to the event more than any other motorsport if they are building tracks on flat ground iwith poor viewing just for TV it won't work they need good tracks with good spectator sizes then that will make it look even better on tv. I can't believe they have to pay 10,000 euros to race either and still get no prize money especially in the current climate,,, i thought by now the prize money would have come back in. In saying that YS have done a good job in raising the profile of the sport, boosting the number of rounds and giving 2 days of motocross action to the fans the racing is great and most of the top riders are stayin in GPs now- there are even some good americans coming over... al they are missiing is to stop costing the promoters money and pay the riders prize money. MAybe DC and Loungo could get together and merge their ideas although DC ideas sound like Lougnos a few years ago!

DC and Lougno are on the same page. Paying the riders is a non issue. The privateers are do dumb to stay home and try to help themselves and DC and the other promoters know that. Why pay for something that you can have for free????

Excellent! Hope he does. I feel for the Euros, though, losing him from their series.

I still say they should cut the SX season by about 6 races, add 6 to the Nats, and have those 6 crossover between FIM and AMA. Run 3 here and 3 overseas. You think they wouldn't fill the stands?

Isnt it weird how teams who don't have the talent here to win their coveted championships buys riders from outside hte country?
