I've decided my 15 yz250 needs more power in the near future. Which company or what person does the best big bore kit ?
Is Eric Gorr no more ?

I'm not sure who does the best...but I'm sure not impressed with the Athena kit I put on my DRZ.

I love the fit, finish and longevity of my Athena CRF488, but for some reason, when I think of big bore 2T Yamahas, I think of Eric Gorr or Tom Morgan.

I'm waiting on my kit from Eric Gorr. Just talked to them yesterday to confirm what new rod I wanted for my crank, but for a new rod, crank balance, 295 kit, port and polish, and a top end kit with gaskets I'm sitting at $835 for my KX. I've called them guys a few times already and they are super friendly and already gave me some good baseline setups to try with my jetting. Now it's just a waiting game!

My Eric Gorr 295 kit on my 2008 YZ hauls.... Very happy with it. I have had it for years now.

I had a YZ250 with the ESR 325 kit. It was pretty close to 450 speed as you can get. Plus you get to keep your old cylinder. My 250 cylinder was top end ported by Eric Gorr and that thing ripped. The mid range of the 325 kit is pretty damn impressive.

I have about 2 years, (100 hours) on a ESR 325 BBK, not only do I like the power, I like the no hassle power valve.
t was easy to jet and has been rock solid reliable, changed the piston at 60 hours.....The only thing different I did was send out to have it nikesel coated, I did not want to bother with over bores etc...

as stated earlier for the money you get the Kit, and can have a couple of different heads cut, so for value and performance I don't think there is a better option.

I wanted mine to still feel zippy like a 250 but with more, so I stayed smaller with the Eric Gorr 265 kit with mid to top porting. Pretty much got what I wanted. Acts/feels like a super fast 250.

I'm a happy Eric Gorr customer. I haven't ridden any other YZ250 big bores, though I've ridden several 500's and a KTM300.

My engine is a 295 big bore with his mid/top porting and the head is cut for race fuel.

Top end life has been excellent. 32:1 with good fuel and I've put 50 hours on the piston. Tore it down last week, everything looks good, but it's finally time for a new piston. The cylinder plating is as good as anyone I've used and still has a strong crosshatch. The porting looks like a piece of art with no sharp edges anywhere.

These bikes have the peak power to match any 450F I've ridden, stock or modified.
However they're still a two stroke and still more challenging to ride than a 450F.

The advantage with the 295cc engine vs the stock 250cc is more torque across the board, less shifting and better starts.
In stock trim the KTM250SX smokes the YZ250. Compared with the 295cc engine, the KTM250SX feels more like a 125 power curve in that you HAVE to rev it.

I'm running a 14:48 gearing (I was running 14:51 with the 250cc).

Here's a 3rd gear start from concrete to sand in the 25+ Expert class against some fast dudes. If you watch some of the moto, you'll hear that I'm using the torque a lot of the time, not just revving the bike out like a stock 250. It allows you to use more RPM range through each gear and pull a taller gear at the same time.
