I concur... What I don't concur with is the fact at the end of the day. If we speak simply by records RV will be remembered as a better SX rider than MX Rider

and better than JS7 at both. Which I don't think is simply true...

Js7 was better rider
Rv better racer
Rd is like a Boeing Union laborer. Does as required no more no less.

Time will be the test
Exactly. RV was very fast. Faster than RD to be sure. Have more respect for RD though, simply because he is FOR the sport. Pure will and determination from him. RV has the will to make money. Why he rode PRO motocross. Good for him. Great at something, might as well make money at it. Just love RD, even when screaming at the TV to make a pass! Both will be remembered. The test of time will probably go to RD, simply because he is more likely, in my mind, to stay in the sport.

What I think is relevant, and nobody really reports it this way is total point earned.......We all know in sx CR won in 2008, JS in 2009, RD in 2010, RV next four, but how many career points does each rider have. CR and RD have crazy points earned, but two titles. RV four..... I guarantee CR has more points than RC without looking it up......Maybe more then MC......

Each point means something.........We have a system where only the guy with the most gets recognition and only for this year or moment........

career points earned needs to be reported!!!!!!!! It means something as these guys all clawed their way for them.

Maybe you forgot Dungey had the red plate in supercross before Roczen got hurt.

RV didn't beat RD EVERY year they raced together. Just every year besides 2010 SX.

Doesn't take away from the fact that Roczen is 100% responsible for that mistake. Maybe it's harder to ride well enough to beat Dungey every race than people give credit for?

Staying Injury free has a lot to due with It, and Dungey know's how to stay off the ground. My boy Stewart Is on the opposite spectrum when It comes to staying off the ground. However, I would much rather watch stewart any day of the week.

Me thinks Tomak (or Tarmak as someone coined) suffers from the same syndrome.
Just raw talent and speed until they are on the ground.

Even though he is still In the early stage of his career, you're probably correct. Only time will tell if Tarmak has the Stewart "Fast and Crash" virus. At this point, I just hope Tarmak makes a full recovery and stays off the Tar mate.

Imagine the career Windham could have had if RC crashed out of a few series.

And he's only around what 24 or 25 years old? It's pretty remarkable. He's definitely one of the smoothest and most consistent riders of all time. A lot of people bash on him because he doesn't go out and dominate but when his career is all said and done he will have a handful of championships in both series. Not many guys can say that.
To add to that, his role with KTM was to build that new bike. As great as KTMs have been, they're still "a little" different than the Japanese brands, and more so before this new bike was released.

If I recall he won his last Supercross Championship before moving to KTM, when Villopoto crashed hard over that steep landing double in (St. Louis?).

Dungey willingly accepted a slight disadvantage to become part of a growing brand where the work was less about winning an SX title that year, and more about developing a machine and a brand that could. A brand he'll likely manage at the highest level when he retires from racing. You simply have to factor this in when judging Dungey's record.

Put another way, if Villopoto were back in SX next year, with Dungey now a year in on this new bike (which is the first fully developed machine under Dungey/Decoster's watch) Dungey would probably be more dominant indoors than in years past.

When the dust settles, and I think of Dungey, it'll be suicide hand shifting a 450 over a triple at a circus race.

So far, healthier than most.
So far, faster and more championships than most.
So far, in better condition than most.
So far, has shown more heart than most.. As seen by hand shifting at race pace..
So far, one of the best brand ambassadors around.

Nice job Ryan, keep it going.

Yes for all the haters out there, how can hand shifting mid air be boring to you ? That shows how much of a competitor he is. You think any other rider would ?

Can you elaborate on what makes him "lucky?"

He's had his fair share of unlucky moments that cost him, they just didn't involve an injury.

I don't understand this and don't think I ever will. He's lucky that he beat the hell out of every rider on the gate in SX this year? Lucky that he beat 38 other riders not named ET until ET crashed out, and then beat all of the other 39 riders on a consistent basis? Where is the luck in that?

I wouldn't consider Dungey "lucky" at all. He's had more than his share of mechanical dnf's over the years that potentially cost him even more titles... over a healthy RV. While RV dominated a few series, he didn't always smoke Dungey like some here seem to remember (especially outdoors).

So was RV "lucky" when Dungey's bike ran out of gas, wouldn't start before a moto, or his chain derailed?

Didn't one very good MX/SX rider once say 'You make your own luck'?

So was ET lucky he lasted 5 motos going an un-sustainable pace?

I like ET, but staying till the final chequered flag with the most points is all that counts. Everything else can stfu.

If we are going to play that game, lets complete the list:

McGrath
Carmichael
Emig
Hannah
Johnson
Bradshaw
etc
etc
etc
