Well here is something to ponder. When all those ex-world champs came over here and didn't set the world on fire right off the bat , did it tarnish their reputation? Not really. Lets take Roczen and Musquin for example. It took them a few years before they really won much of anything. RV only made it to his 4th GP , but won the 2nd one he ever entered. Injuries are part of the game , and when it happens you can't sit there and judge a dudes entire "dominating " career off of 4 freakin' races , in a series he had never competed in.

How much "tarnish " would be applied if guys like AC , Herlings , Nagl and so forth came over here and ran the SX and National series against guys like RV , RD , Stewart , Roczen , Tomac , ect?

And I'm not trying to start an argument here , but I'd say our one American that went over there , did quite a bit better than most of the ex-world champs that have come over here. RV never down played the speed of the GP guys , like what some guys here did ( Like myself am guilty of ). He just went there to race with no excuses.
Roczen had mx2 title and so did musquin. They were young kids and did not have a huge name like Cairoli, Everts or RV. Not even close...

Roczen and Musquin were just fast kids still in development when it comes to racing..

Millsaps did not loop out. Canard hit his rear wheel.

Well the lack of news from KRT is a big indicator IMHO, when you think that the whole of Kawasaki worldwide is relying on Wil Hahn and Tyla Rattray , they ought to be doing something to try and get their houses in order.

Agreed, and didn't Roczen won an overall at Unadilla his first year AMA? Or was the second year? Villopoto, for me and for those who always knew how fast the euros really are, did very good for his first year in GP... Yes, in the minds of many uneducated ones his legacy is tarnished, not for me... One of the greatest, fastest and most dominant AMA rider ever, who was competitive and top 5-4 against another top 3 GOAT candidate in Cairoli, and other very fast mofos, in their series... They are different series, it's difficult to adapt, the same Cairoli would probably need a year of practice before attacking the title in the National...

Well the looping was still impressive !

I made some homework teacher which was cool to see some recap. I would have love to have attend the "mx school' ! Smile

At 1.39, wheel tap maybe but no that much, the full throtlle was a good contributor too Smile

This year Millsaps could not catch a break, in the recap he was really not lucky this season. A bit like Reed sometimes. And I do not know what was going on between Tomac & him but it was gnarly !

These guys were definitely young when they ventured to the States, but super talented and they both had been very productive in europe. On the other side of the coin, RV (in my opinion) is not as dominant as he once was. I don't believe he is too far from his best days, but I do feel like he hit his peak and is on the downside of his career even if he would decide to race a few more years. I think we all agree that RV could continue to race at a super high level, but it appears he will cal it quits very soon if not already. All I'm saying is, even if he were still as motivated and focused, I don't believe he is quite as good as he was at the peak of his career. That probably goes for Cairoli too, but this is just my opinion.

The fact is, comparing all these guys is really not necessary. It is fun to do so, but Cairolli and RV have certainly proven to be the dominant racers of their time. If KRoc stays healthy, he will undeniably become a contender for one of the greatest of his time. Hearlings and Tomac should also play prominently in that discussion.

Well , I have just had a ponder as requested , and I can conclude that your use of Roczen to prove your point is pants !

When Roczen came to the US in 2012 , he finished 2nd in his very first moto , beating both Tomac and Barcia , and went on to podium in the first 5 nationals of that year .

Now , bearing in mind K Roc at that time was just a young kid making his way in the world and had nowhere near the experience of what RV had this year , I think that was a cracking job , and a far better effort than your " one American " has managed this year .

I don't want to disrespect RV,s achievements at all , he has been a great rider and will be remembered as one of the very best , but whichever way you try to dress it up , his performance in this years GP,s has been poor for his very high standards and it seems to me that this current injury will be an excuse for him to get out whilst he can .

I certainly wouldn't say RV's results have been poor at all. They have been inconclusive however. I believe he has raced 4 GP's. Does that sound about right? He did win overall once. He was fairly competitive in another and as has been pointed out, was in the thick of things when he looped out in the race that may have ended his career.

Why I never thought he would dominate over there, I honestly believe had he not become injured, he would be very competitive and quite possibly won another overall. They are all great riders. Everyone of them will be remembered as some of the best to ever throw a leg over a bike. That's all anyone needs to know.

Absolutely agree about Roczen, and i also remember him leading many motos before losing at the very end mostly due to fitness... And i was half-right about Unadilla 2012, it was Musquin who won the overall and Roczen his first moto... So not really inferior results compared to Villopoto in GP, i'd say even better overall... As i said, Villopoto did very good for his first year in a different series, all the guys with the "30 seconds/dominating" bullshits had no idea about how fast and technical GP riders are today, they still had in mind his once-in-a-lifetime performance at 2007 MXdN, his dated MXdN overall great results and how much faster AMA riders "look" on camera in National's freeway tracks...

Hadn't roczen been in the US for over a year before that '12 season started? Also doesn't seem like Villo did too bad considering his last outdoor race was '13

He did some early season SX events in 11, but he competed in and won the 250 GP world title that year , so 2012 was his first year in the Nationals.

He raced SX in 2011, not MX. First MX season was 2012. I don't think you can compare a 17 year old mx2 rider going over to race another series to a 26 year old multi time champion.

You're right can't compare someone fresh off a world title and riding in the lesser class vs someone who hasn't raced outdoors since '13 and trying to compete in the premier class.

I don't get your point. As I stated earlier, RV didn't do horribly in the few events he raced this year. Winning one overall and being in contention in others. The fact is, we don't have enough of a base to evaluate RV. He just hasn't raced enough. Now had he not crashed out and earned mediocre results in the events he missed, then we could talk about his less than stellar results. Cut the man some slack. HE HASN'T RACED ENOUGH IN GP'S TO COME TO A REASONABLE DETERMINATION!

What don't you get Joe lad , my last remark to Funyun ?

Well that's quite simple , I find it incredible that he / she / it could try and compare a 17 year old kids first year in the AMA nationals to a very experienced multi time champions first year in the GP,s .

It would be a real shame if his career ended like that. But it still won't take away from what he achieved in his career
I will always keep in mind how he dominated that Saturday qualifying race in a world dominating manner by crushing those euro clown competition by 30 secs. *cringe

Dude...your point is so one sided. Kroc and MM despite good starts finished fourth and fifth overall in the series....so stop with the 2nd in one moto crap. Race after race they got passed and ended up in fourth or fifth....it was clear to everyone that at the end of the year that was were they belonged. I can barely tolerate idiots like you who lack objectivity and keep harping on while "making excuses" . Just because we have fools who diminish the GP riders doesn't mean you have to be a fool to! It used to be the immature Americans that were acting like idiots and now we have a large influx of Euro's taking over. Just stop for everyone's sake

When is the last time you saw a pro loop out on level ground? It made me think there may have been some sort of electrical, sensor, traction/ attitude control failure. I doubt we'll ever know for sure but, just like stalling on the gate at the first race, it's just unbelievable to me that RV made mistakes like those. And no, my suspicions are not desperate attempts at excuses for his losses. I'm a fan. Not that big of a fan though.
See that shit everyday in BMore bro.

Well , I have just had a ponder as requested , and I can conclude that your use of Roczen to prove your point is pants...

Oh man , I'm gonna make this short and simple.

You aint been here long enough to even deserve a good reply back from me. You're obviously some GP biased little dick and you aint worth my time.

@RY4N37 : Good reply man , and great bench racing! Always good when we look at it from anther perspective.

Your post reminded me of this column. PulpMX on RV
Bottom line from USA media is that GP`s are still a B class and it was RV who wasn`t on par. Sad.

What's sad is , the guys across the pond think they got the RV from 2013. No biggie though , as anyone who played close attention to the way he rode in previous years knows damn well what the answer is.
