Spot on Jeffro. Im in the market and I certainly wont be looking at a gopro.

The riders have been sold out and this whole deal stinks! Who has pocketed all the $$$ for this so called exclusive rights? ???

Sounds like something the FIM would do.

Exactly, it's not what Chad is trying to do, but how he goes about doing things. Chad always has to shit all over the rug instead of using the restroom like everyone else.

Oh, and didn't Andrew Short get FORCED to wear a GoPro camera at a SX race while BTO/KTM was sponsored by a totally different personal-use camera system? Call me silly, but that just sounds wrong.

GoPro has long had a storied legal team that has aggressively enforced any and all contracts. Something tells me this would be no different.

Once again, I'm starting to see the need for a Professional MX Racers Committee (don't say the word union!) to work on issues like this.

What if CR going public with this helps out other teams and riders with their deals? Then to me, he's a hero. We all know sometimes it takes bringing issues to light sometimes helps things right?

Oh and RCH was also publicly complaining in terms of then-manager Kenny Watson talking about SX folks.

The riders make the show from factory level down to the lowest privateer who is the every week trying to qualify.

Where's all the money going????

Unbelievable, 11 pages and still only a handful of people are thinking sensibly.

First of all, the people who are hating on GoPro for the contract they made are just so wrong. It's not GoPro's fault, it's NBC and other for agreeing to the contract. GoPro was very smart to protect themselves against future competitors. This was a very smart business move and most people would do exactly the same if they were lrunning / managing the GoPro organization (or if they had their own company). They saw the potential thread and blocked the opposition before it happened. It is NBC and others fault for agreeing to these terms.

Second, the people who are hating on Chad because "he takes his bat and goes home" are wrong as well. Finally you have a person / rider who dares to speak his mind and likes to voice his opinion. I'm 95% sure that if something is not going your way during your job, you speak up and tell about it. Off course there are always people who do not stand up for themselves and let everybody run over them. Well, Reed is not that type of person and you should applaud someone who wants to speak up and stands for himself.

Don't even bother, it's always the same guys bashing Reed every chance they get. The guy could donate $1,000,000 dollars to charity and these same idiots would come on here and say he could have afforded more, it's kind of sad really.

Team Gus could still be on the road with 20+ Privateers IF ..... there was a camera deal for the team ...... $1000 a rider would probably do it

One other way to look at this is not to compare the camera to a gear deal or hard parts on a bike. A helmet camera produces footage of an event that NBC/MAVTV own the rights to. Part of GoPro's deal is they came onboard and have paid this group to license their footage. Allowing other cameras on the track is a very easy way to make sure that other brands are not filming the event and using the footage without paying for the rights. (Yes you can say well just tell them no, but in this case it would be easier for NBC to sell exclusive rights to the interested party and allow only their cameras on the track to make it easier to enforce.)

Nothing is going to change until then unless GoPro is compensated to their satisfaction no matter what either of you, Reed, or anybody else hopes for, does, or says.

I'm sure there will be some vigorous competition for action camera contracts and/or changes when that happens. It would have happened whether Reed said he was going to sit it out or not and not anytime sooner.

Can totally see where Chad is coming from with this. He's out there every week trying to race and also run a competitive team out of his own pocket. Its not very often someone comes along who is willing to invest $500,000 in this sport and it's not the kind of thing you can pass up. Got a lot of respect for Chad for standing up for what he believes is right, fair play to him

I'm confused. The contract is with NBC/AlliSports, not MX Sports. Who tells the riders that they can't use another brand of camera? Are their NBC camera police at the starting line? Is MX Sports enforcing this contract without compensation? Is this outside of the rulebook? Does the contract only include operating cameras or does it include anything that would simply "look" like a camera? Can you wear a polaroid or an instamatic on you helmet?

I know Parts Unlimited wasn't allowed to have a hospitality suite in the pits this year at Glen Helen because Western Powersports complained about it. I know WPS sponsors the series but to not allow a major vendor support their own customer is ridiculous. That is like not allowing a Bridgestone truck in the pits because Dunlop sponsors the series.
