He is the most overrated player in NFL history.

He is an average quarterback, and always has been. He's had a few really good years, and just as many bad ones with several average years between. The one and only thing that places him above any other quarterback is that he starts every week.

His career QB rating is 85.9, which is a decent number, but not much above average at all. Yeah, he holds a ton of records that have to do with big numbers, but that's due to him playing every game.

For comparison, let's use a quarterback that isn't highly talked about or desired. Daunte Culpepper has a career QB rating of 89.4, which is better than the 85.9 Favre has. They both have identical TD to INT ratios. Culpepper has a better career completion percentage, a better yards per game average, and better yards per attempt average. He hasn't had a season where he's had a QB rating above 78 since 2004, and his career averages are dropping faster than a 16 year old girls pants in Green Bay.

I used Culpepper because everyone says he's a terrible QB, yet he is in his 10th season and his career averages are better than what Favre has posted. Again, Brett Favre is overrated. He's average at best.

Favre is overrated, he depends heavily on his arm strength and is a competiter with a throw to win mentality but makes just as many bad plays as good. He is great at reading a defense but he is very average when pressured.

Goat would be a guy like Montana, give me a thinker who sits patiently in the pocket over a farve or a scrambling QB any day.

I will even go out on the limb and say I would take Warner over Favre

No, I've just stated some facts. If Favre only played 10 seasons, people would not be talking about him being some HOF quarterback. His numbers and records are all bulk numbers. Start almost any quarterback 270 games in his career and his numbers would be identical.

Are you kidding me? #1 learn how to spell his name its Favre.

#2 He couldn't hold Joe Montana's jock strap.

#3He throws more picks than TO throws tantrums.

He is legend but by no means a GOAT.

greatest pure passer= Dan Marino

greatest winner= Joe Montana

somewhere in between= John Elway

It'll really be interesting to see how Brady comes back next year. I think he was on his way to eclipsing all of the above. I personally don't think he'll ever be the same.

pretty good assessment I think.

Of course, there have been lots of greats in the past as well.

It's about winning and I don't think a QB was better at winning than Montana...

Favre deserves credit. He has a ton of heart and does some amazing things. But not the GOAT IMO.

Looking at these career numbers (discounting active players) it looks like Steve Young is getting the shaft. His name is never brought up in these discussions and judging by by the numbers and knowing his winning record, he should get more love. I watched his entire career and and he certainly was a smart, tough qb. Peyotn Manning will have a case when he's done, as well.

Kurt Warner should be sealing his HOF fame bid with this season, as well

Peyton Manning is way more skilled in just about every aspect of the QB game than Favre has ever been at any point in his career. Imagine the numbers he would put up with a Moss, TO, Rice and a 1st string offensive line.

I don't know much about how QB ratings are developed. I think they are indicator, but don't tell the whole story by a long, long stretch.

Last year the Jets were 4 and 12 and weren't expected to be much better this year. So far they are 8 and 3. What's changed?

Slightly off topic but Warner is one of the funnest to watch play the game. Favre is boring in my opinion.

Dean, you mentioned you think Young is getting the shaft. What about one of the best quarterbacks of the 90's, Jim Kelly. He took his team to the Super Bowl 4 years in a row. We all know his team lost all of them, but he was in fact a nearly unstoppable passer. He had one of the best teams in history that sadly nobody remembers. I know his career passer rating is only 84.4, but that's not far below the rating of Favre.

Awesome to see Jeff Garcia at 14. I've watched him play since his high school days. When he played at San Jose State I figured he would be a good backup QB in the NFL. He's definately surpassed my expectations.

you know, I looked for him on that list specifically. As a lifelong Dolphin guy I know all too well the story of the Bills in the 90's. He was great. I think his lost few years in the USFL will hurt him historically

Not GOAT, a great qb with longevity but not a GOAT.
