Gee so many experts here, but all I will say is that I wish Alessi the best, good on him for having the balls to race there.

If he finished in the top half of the field I'd say woohoo. Turns out that them fureners ain't as slow as the propigandists said they were. Who knew?
If he has all the same team and bike he uses over here, the only thing he has to learn is the new format and new tracks. He should be able to pull a top ten. My question is will RV be 100%? Haven't heard a word from RV. Will be cool to see them both on the gate again, especially if Dan and Tony are there, just like old times.

Alessi stated his intentions on the upcoming outdoor season:

Smartop MotoConcepts Racing confirms they are taking their race efforts overseas for part of the 2015 MXGP series.

MCR has chosen to forego the traditional outdoor single series approach according to team owner Mike Genova. “We’re focusing on the core objective of motorsport racing – promoting our team and sponsor products while continuing to build the Smartop and MotoConcepts brand.” Instead of chasing points in a given series, we’ve chosen to use multiple series to market to a worldwide audience via the MXGP, CMRC and USA Outdoor Nationals.”

Mike Alessi will be leading the MCR team following a hard crash at the Daytona Supercross where he broke a vertebra in his back. “I’m excited for this summer’s MCR program and look forward to racing in different countries, on different tracks and against different riders. Bringing our own support crew and MCR 450 bikes overseas will be a big advantage that will allow me to focus on racing only.”

MCR’s first MXGP race will be Great Britain’s Matterly Basin on May 23-24, which will be followed by France’s Villars sous Ecot, May 30-31.

MCR’s second rider, Vince Friese, will compete in the first two rounds of the U.S. Nationals aboard a MCR 450 and reunite with the team upon their return to North America.

As the outdoor season progresses, MCR will announce the races in which they will participate.

Thinking outside the box! I like it!
Who said you have to commit to one championship and get an overall championship standing to be successful?!
I think it's great, does exactly what it's intended to. Good luck to him and the team and the sponsors.

An American invasion in the British GP!
Mike Alessi - Ryan Villopoto in the MXGP class.
Thomas Covington - Darian Sanayei in the MX2 class.

Will be good to watch but can't see him inside top ten, be interesting to see if GP tracks suit him better, nowt wrong with someone giving it a go but GP's are well into their stride so he is starting a bit behind

I've read if Sanayei gets good results there's a chance Dixon will get him a ride the rest of the year too. Seems Pocock won't be racing anymore this season imo.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but it looks like he could be doing a 250 two stroke in the 250 class! Holy shit!

I was waiting for this to pop up. Im wondering the same thing myself. Would explain his riding 2 strokes in Florida lately over riding the 4 strokes. If it he does race the 2 stroke, flip the script for real.. That would be something to see.

I think this is really awesome. I read this thread and was going to bring up MA racing the USGP in 2010 but I see I've already been beaten. I give them MCR some kudos for thinking outside the box and just going racing. I'll be interested to see how he does over there. I would predict a top 10 but just barely.

If MA actually races with a 2-stroke then full props to him, he has nothing to lose so why not have a little bit of fun while he's over here!

Anyone know if Jeff will be tagging along?.... Jeff?...

Great news.

I predict a holeshot, decent first half of each moto - then fading badly, finishing around 8th.

Good luck though.
