I understand that people feel that they are working hard week in and week out to be able to do what they love and get frustrated when people want to "just throw money" at someone else to do the very same thing they wish they could do.

But...

Ben Lamay has been earning points in the main event in all but 4 of the races he has entered. One of the times he didn't he was fifth in the LCQ behind Seely, Partridge, Hill, and Wey. There have been good riders on some pretty good rides who ended up not making the main event this year, it was pretty stacked early on. A rider who on a pretty consistent basis proves that he belongs among the 20-so fastest (active) 450 SX riders in the world surely isn't a no-body in this sport, or?

Can we not agree that Ben, although a hair off of the leaders pace (from the perspective most of us should have that is), is pretty damn good? You obviously have no problem with riders being not only given sweet rides and gear and flight tickets but also a pretty decent salary for doing what you work hard to do, so why should you have anything against this? If you can't or don't want to help him, don't (no one was forced, really), but what's up with the hate towards Ben (especially since it's not even Ben himself who is behind this)?

If anything is disturbing here, then it is the fact that our sport clearly has little room economically for more than 15-20 riders in the 450 and 250 class combined it seems like.

I love that people chip in to help various riders in any way they can, we need this in our sport. If these efforts end you will suddenly see our sport reduced to a showcase of the ones with rich parents rather than those with talent, it's simply that expensive.

[In my opinion]

You guys... and Ben think you got it tough well let me tell you. Last prosthetic leg I got two years ago wasn't even cutting edge. I mean it IS a C-LEG and my insurance did cover the $85000 unit but the truth is I wanted to get the top of the line newly released Genium leg. Way better THAN this C-LEG el-cheapo but my insurance wouldn't approve the Genium leg. What a crock a shit.. Priced at $115000 it was only a few thousand more but noooo.. they wouldn't go for it. Anyway can one of you guys can set me up with a GO FUND MY GENIUM LEG for me? I don't need the entire $115000 just the slight difference of 30 grand or so. Cmon folks give an old prick like me hand up for fuck sakes.
I will send you $100 if you never post again. Wink

would be interesting to see how much FELD pockets from each event. In my opinion the payouts are pathetic.

I don't know what riders in the 12th-20th place make with clothing and other sponsor deals either. I would be curious to see what a rider like Ben makes (or doesn't loses) by racing. I would also be curious to see what FELD, etc. make as well, because I think the riders are the biggest one's getting screwed since they are the show.

Maybe Im in the wrong business and should start promoting events.

not sure gonna start doing some research tonight. No doubt millions throughout the series, or they wouldnt be doing it.

oh and 20th in the 450 main gets $2,135 and only $695 in the 250 class. Dont tell me they couldn't add to this (double, triple, etc).

Who am I to tell the promoter to pay more to each racer? Isn't that THEIR business?

BTW, $2,135 is about $53 an hour for a 40 hour week. I'm sure a lot of people wish they made $53 an hour.

and if they get injured??

What's the insurance like to be a pro rider (just in case)? At the end of the day people "growing the sport" are really growing their wallets.

I think you should promote your own events and pay the riders what you think they deserve, you can call it the "all the rest of the events have been cancelled because we are now bankrupt series"

Trust me if I could I would and I would make FELD and DC look bad.

Im not trying to tell FELD they should pay the riders more, Im just saying that what they pay some of the riders now is peanuts.

Not all business men are in it just for the money, the best business men know that if you treat people right they will take care of you.

I think you should write a paper for your high school business class on the subject, or better yet how about sending a warning to DC and FELD that you will make them all look bad when start your own race promotion business, hell you should publish your business plan on how to revolutionize the racing industry and sell it, Heck I would buy a copy. I hope both DC and FELD are making great money and hope for good weather for the nationals because just a few rainy race weekends could put DC in the poor house, strange how a reliable thing like the weather could put him in the red for years to come.

You do realize that Feld has to pay Fox to put the races on tv don't you? I know they make money but still,

never see that shit in major sports. None of them got to pay.

Im 26, out of college, have a degree in business, a job with that degree, and own my own side business, which despite getting piss poor effort out of myself in the last year still did 40k in revenue. Not bad for yr 2 ,especially since most of it was in the first half of the year (both yrs in the 40k+ range for revenue), and l am currently expanding into other related ventures.

Unfortunately, money doesnt grow on trees or I would be expanding quicker. Student debt and a new truck dont help.

I also didn't see him asking for anyone to fund anything for him. He made his decision to lower the growth rate of his business for some personal indulgences. His priorities become a concern when he starts asking people to pay his way.

To think that any time I post something it gets taken down then I click on threads like this and realize that there are hundreds of cunts around here worse than me. Bagging on a rider trying to make it...that has honest and noble intentions is brutal!

Supply and demand is the most basic business concept. As a rider you have zero demand , Kroc has huge demand for his service, Lamay falls somewhere in between.

yeah, because my 13 year old truck with 244k miles, that I put over 8k into for repairs over the 7 years I had it (typical wear and tear, no accidents) that needed another 2k between tires and repairs wasnt holding up as well as I would like...what was I thinking getting myself my first new vehicle that should last me 10+ years.

Unfortunately, money doesnt grow on trees or I would be expanding quicker. Student debt and a new truck dont help.

But if you can afford a new truck it may appear your wallet is getting fat off your part of the business, so I think you should pay more to whoever or whatever your cash output is so you are treating them right. Because after all "Not all business men are in it just for the money, the best business men know that if you treat people right they will take care of you"

I bet the dealer sold the truck to you at his cost because hes a good guy also who does not just care about the money.

And for the record if anyone wants to donate or help sponsor a rider or gofund a rider and spend their money then have at it and I think that is great. My comments are more on the side of business owners who everyone want to make them pay when most do not understand the amount of financial risk they incur to put on events and the reward should be equally as good for success. I also dont think DC has to make the hard decision each morning if he should take the Ferrari or Diablo or the private jet to work Wink

Student debt and a new truck dont help.

everything I make from the business goes back into it right now and thats the way it has been since it was started.

All my bills and charitable contributions come from my day job.

End discussion on my personal life.
