So the majority of this thread feel it's acceptable for a rider to jump into a section full of yellow flags having no idea whats on the other side. Okay. The worker probably thought, hey holding this bike sideways on the backside of a jump where the rider can't see me probably isn't a great spot, and made a quick decision, wrong or right. Either way, I think there should have been cross flags out instead of yellow flags. Any time there's a rider, bike, and Asterisk members on blind side of a jump should be a cross flag.

Seely knew what was on the other side; a guy down in the middle of the track (which he learned from the guy standing at the top of the jump directing him left or right - seely's choice to go left).

Track worker pushing the bike off just had a momentary lapse and it cost Seely the win.
Clearly it was a mistake by the guy leaving the track. But a pretty easy argument for the referee to handle with Seely.

4.15 Flags and Lights

Yellow Flag or Yellow Flashing Light:

1. Indicates serious hazard on or near the track. This includes the sighting or cool down laps.
2. Passing is allowed
3. Proceed with extreme caution.

IMO, that was not proceeding with any amount of caution. Jumping into that was a dumb thing to do. Reed said he saw it happening before he got there. What was Seely looking at? Seemed like a giant brain fart by rider and worker. Glad nobody got hurt from it.

Correct I know it's ok to jump on yellow. But in a long rhythm or whoop section where you can see whats going on from down the track it's a little different. No disrespect to Seely it was just a mistake, but a guy standing in the middle of the track pointing 2 directions would cause me to second guess jumping over something that I am unsure of what is on the other side.

ever hear the song "Heat of the Moment", bone head move by seely caught up in race action, would he do the same thing next week, don't think so. coming off of a win last week I'd be pinned to, live and learn!! what was Gallagher supposed to do, give him the win, don't think so. same as reed showing up at ama two weeks after the canard deal with his attorney, racing incident and caught up in the emotion, nothing could/should be done!!

Bad deal for Seely, it could have been way worse for the guy pushing the bike and/or Seely. I don't know how they could have given him the win on coulda, shoulda, woulda but he had it pretty much in the bag.

If they would have awarded Seely the win in this case I'm thinking Reed and Osterman would have come unglued and we would have a 10 pager now.
No way can you give Seely the win. Bummer what happened, but there's no way.

i would have been fuming if i was Seely, i thought he handled it a lot better than i would have.

he wasn't tripling that jump, he was slamming the face and bouncing over the 3rd bump. the officials routed him that way and he hit the dude pushing the bike. the bike should have stayed there until the race was over or they should have pulled out the cross flag.

When the redcross is waved it should stay out till the riders racing for transfer have passed even if the danger has been moved.

If a rider rolls the jumps then the guy behind gets to triple it lets him close the gap way to easy.

I agree, keep out till everyone passes said flag.

bad gate pick + bad finish = pissed off seely

should of went back to the gate for a full restart. I take it that it's hard to push the bike off the track quickly while
the pushee is pushing with the bike in gear & clutch in. maybe not with these new clutch designs.

He went the direction he was told to go and did exactly what every other rider would have done. If they're going to push the bike off the track in a blind section, they need to block off that half of the track and force the riders to go right instead of left, and most likely use the red cross flags too. There's no way you should even attempt to push the bike off unless you're certain the coast is clear or they have the section blocked off for you.

I seem to be in the minority in thinking that the head official should have awarded Seely the win. At the very least, there's no way he should have been riding in the semi.

Usually they use the downed riders bike to protect the downed rider. Gallagher black flags reed, makes harsh choices and yet, when at fault for the seely instance, nothing was done. Also with the partridge gate issue, nothing was done. So if I am looking at this, I see a man who makes poor judgement calls, and does nothing at all to correct the situation that he himself or crew, are to blame. Interesting I suppose.

You're correct about using bikes to protect downed riders.

As for Seely's situation, I agree that it's a bad deal, but I'm going to guess that there's no provision in the rule book for a situation like that, because no one ever expected it to be an issue. How do you resolve it? Make up something on the spot? How do you do that without every other rider who has a gate pick worse than Seely's being upset about it?

Unless the track workers job is to play Frogger with the racers, you're always expected to WAIT until the track is clear to push the bike off the track.

This is the same for local races as well.

It was poor judgement on both Seely and the guy pushing the bike off. Seely still got in the main and no one was seriously injured. Seely and that guy should just be happy they aren't in the hospital right now.

No argument. Normally they're good about it, but it looked like a mistake was made.

I heard it mentioned on the santa clara review podcast, but how come no one is bitching about not getting a restart after Partridge's gate issue?

I was wondering that, too. A blatant gate malfunction like that should no question have resulted in a restart.
4/20/2015 11:04am
Proceed with extreme caution. Lol. But theyre allowed to jump.

Doubling a jump on a sx track isn't riding with extreme caution.

What a botch rule. That needs to be reevaluated. The only time these guys aren't allowed to race is during a Red Cross flag. So drop the extreme caution bs during a yellow and change it to "debris or rider down on be track--keep racing."

There is no way you can give the win to somebody that didn't technically win the race, or even a transfer spot. The only possible solution would have been to red flag the race and restart single file.

Unfortunately this is one of the circumstances that needed to happen before something can be done to help prevent again. In this instance, they should have restarted the race due to a bad gate drop with KP199. For he seely instance, perhaps a protocol should be written. With two options, when a downed rider is in a blind position, You cross flag the section until you are passed the down rider and protect him with his bike of feasable. If the rider is in a clear visible area, protect rider with bike again if feasable, and wait for the rider to be cleared off the track before the bike is removed. Just quick thoughts.

The track worker made a mistake to push the bike across the track when he did, plain and simple. People make mistakes. I'd be pissed if I were Seely too, but that's racing - sometimes you luck out and sometimes you get bitten.
