By the time the AMA MX series starts, the riders have just done 17 Races in 18 weeks and then they test for a few weeks and its back to 12 races in 13 weeks. Its a far more hectic schedule than 2 races in 6 weeks like we are getting right now. Who cares about the British, Italian, Dutch, etc titles, the GP riders are split up between 5 or 6 local series with some of them only getting a couple GP regulars, the atmosphere the pressure and obligation's are no where near the same as the real GP series. Where in the AMA there are 29 races with all of the guys competeting against each other instead of 18 and a handful of local races to keep in shape while the series has 2 and 3 week breaks through out the year.

Most US people seem to be unaware of the existence of European national series , you may not care about other national series, but the riders do , and so do there sponsors, to the point where some races are held midweek just to fit them into the schedule , the notion that these guys are are sat twiddling there thumbs every week is one that this forum seems to accept as the norm.

Dont get me wrong, i know the US schedule is crazy, but it isnt much different over here , these guys are just as busy , its just RV who isnt doing anything but GP's
Supercross starts beginning of January. Runs to early May. 17 races. 1 week off during. Then a 2 week break during which they are outdoor testing. The a 12 race National series that runs into early September. Then maybe a little time off before testing begins for Monster Cup. Then maybe a little time off before supercross testing starts. Then supercross starts again.

Don't kid yourself. The schedules are not the same. Pretty much all of them talk about it openly.

Davy rides EMX 250 and a couple of wildcards in MX2 this year.

Herlings and Pauls Jonass are the regulars for MX2.

Pootjes is planned to be alongside Jonass when JH moves up to MXGP.
Not too sure but didn't Davy just sign for a 5 or 6 year KTM contract?

I think he signed when he was still on 125. Same as Jonass.

Cairoli is a master of racing in general he knows how to win championships you very rarely see him ride above his capabilities.
Uh ummm, except maybe last Sun when he crashed and rang his bell in the first moto being pressured by Desalle...

you think that GP riders dont test? .. most of them were in California for the winter, or spain ..

I said i understand the US schedule, because i watch it and have followed it for 35 years , what most US fans dont get is that the Euro schedule isnt just GP's .. 18 GP's . 2 days each .. nationals 8 rounds, thats 44 days racing , plus early season races , and the odd midweek international.

RV says , yet again, 3 rounds in , that he still cant get his head round the GP race weekend schedule.

Im not saying its harder than the US , because it isnt , but its not far behind. Pretty much everyone travelled 30 plus hours to Argentina... 20 odd to Thailand. Probably going to be 20 to Mexico .. i think Shaun Simpson took 28 hours to get from the team base in Belgium to Kegums for the Nations, Sweden is a bit of a jaunt too, and then Glen Helen. Most of these guys drive their own campers to the races, and still have to train , just like your guys.

If I was RV I'd be signing up for some of those national races now to get track time and some race-situation testing in. Better to work stuff out in races that don't count.

You're right, 5 year begging in 2015. Pit knows what he wants and he gets it. KTM is pretty well set and always has top talent waiting to just step right in when the others move up.

In my view he's (inevitably) lacking race track time and is behind the game in getting his setup on circuits that are new - and very different - to him. Riding practice laps isn't the same as racing. I think it would benefit him to take advantage of non-GP races on the off-weekends

Something else that's a plus is that while traveling to races you will have a few riders show up at little local club tracks in route and practice with the kids watching in a state of awe and shock. Nothing pretentious and that why the fan base in Europe seems to be more knowledgeable and dedicated. Almost every small town has a local club with MX ,Enduro and auto track and having a load of GP riders show up to put in some laps just takes it to a personal level and back to the basic roots of what MX is all about.

And this same thing doesn't happen in the US during the Nats or even in the off season? Why are you always reaching for something that's not there?.

I think, although he wouldn't admit it, RV maybe did underestimate the size of the challenge he was taking on. Coming to win the world championship was always going to be a difficult task, but having not raced outdoors since the end of 2013, I think he could have prepared better

fair point he still finished 2nd though maybe he knew he had a big enough gap to push amd if a mistake was made he wouldn't lose position

I hate to break it to you there sparky , but I've been following the GP's since the Lackey and Laporte days. Probably longer than you have been alive to be honest. So don't tell me what I know and what I don't. Jesus Christ....I could whip out some old VHS tapes from the early 80's on the GP's I recorded off of TV. Your post about my GP knowledge is about as retarded as you thinking you know me or anything about me.
If you have been watching GPs that long ,I would expect you to be able to talk about it without sounding like an idiot. My bad, I didn't honestly think you were that dumb.

This is what kinda chaps my hide about this whole argument. RV said multiple times, over and over, that it was going to be a huge challenge. It's the people on here that spoke out of turn.

How many full National seasons, on the 450, did RV complete? One or two, is all, right ('11 & '13-which he won the titles)? All the other seasons were either partial (09) or he didn't even compete (10', 12', 14') due to SX injuries, right?

I know he dominated on the 250 for several years...but on the 450 he really doesn't have all the much experience outdoors. Seems that little bit of information is forgotten in his hype.

I know he said multiple times that it was going to be a huge challenge, but then he still didn't do any pre season races that were available to him and that everyone else was doing to prepare for the season. He was hardly going to come over saying it was going to be easy and fire all his competitors up. I just think he could've done more to prepare for this fight

Yeah, just busting your balls a little. Smile

For the record, I do think Cairoli is quite the Master, but a Master who can be beat none the less. If RV is going to get a few more wins he better take note of not only how Cairoli races, but Nagl and Desalle too. They certainly know how to work the GP format to their distinct and individual advantages, that's for sure.

It ain't going to get any easier for RV...

Not totally unprepared, but not as well prepared as he could've been. I'm not saying that he was coming over thinking this was going to be easy, he would've known all about Cairoli and how tough he is to beat. But I think he maybe underestimated, or was unaware of just how many guys can run the pace, win races and could beat him. I think now with the experience of the first three rounds, if he had the chance to do pre-season again, he would prepare differently

And humble pie doesn't taste good, at all! (Which is why in breeds excuses.)

Its no secret that I'm cheering for RV, but I've said all along I thought Cairoli would with the title this year (and with the way Nagl, and Desalle are riding...the title race may not have Cairoli or RV in it, come round 15 or 16).

Lots of humble pie being eaten by Americans right now...

I will say though, this isn't the first time RV has started a series very slow and been off the podium a few times in the first 5 races...only to come storming back later in the series. So I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen this season...at which time that humble pie would then be "enjoyed" by the non-American chest thumpers....of course, I also wouldn't be surprised to see RV, Cairoli, DeSalle, and Nagl take turns being off the podium each race for the rest of the series either, while the other three are on it-in any order. I can't wait.

Perhaps he knew that he wasn't yet prepared and didn't want to show his hand before the start of the season by racing in what would be considered meaningless races here in the states.

I'm sure he'll get his setup better in the coming weeks and give the front runners from last weekend more of a challenge. One thing for sure, it's gonna be a great summer for us, the spectators.
