I hate rollers/waves... whatever you want to call them but RV is so efficient through them, I think that's somewhere he makes up a lot of time. The last two or three laps are great and there's some nice mutual respect shown between RV and Cairoli at the end!

Why do you hate rollers? Yeah it was a good race. I just want them both to start of 1-2 tomorrow so we once and for all can see them both go balls out. AC, RV, NAGL, just disapeard in this QF. I was also very impressed by this track and the people and the whole event looked sweet. To your point yeah RV looks good in the rollers , supercross skills technique helps him for sure!

On a last lap everything was decided on just one corner. It`s where you go up the hil, 180 and then down the hill. Cairoli jumped over brakingbumps in that corner and RV didn`t. Lost a second there.

Good spot and i agree ! I like the way AC is calm , Nagl went by him, AC said sure go ahead i sit behind you for bit then he just finds a good spot to make a pass and after that he was holding steady, but oh boy RV was coming i think if that QF was a moto 1 the battle would have been awsome and rv ( personal opinion again) would probably catch him but that is just speculations. Ryan looks so much more confident now.

Just never liked them, either to ride or to watch! I realise they present a certain challenge to get right, but they're energy sapping and frustrating to ride and Youthstream stick 'em on every bloody track which I find tedious. I'd much rather they just dumped a few random clumps of dirt on the track for riders to pick their way through instead to be honest.

At that speed these guys are hauling it is for sure energy sapping, but you could tell that RV and AC had something else for them. I found them funny and tricky but i think these rollers is a common part of the track these days like you say. I find them cool. Was it just me or did it feel like they surpassed the average speed , they clocked villo at 32 mph that tracked looked to me like freaking 65 km or something haha! Anyway it starts to shape up for a good battle!

Man, RV was blasting the left handed bowl turn after that dragon back thingy like no one else. He was on the gas!

RV looked smooth and on cruise control. AC stepped it up once RV caught up, his KTM looked like it was putting the power to the ground. The other guys looked like they were floundering.

I think I counted RV in 10th early in the race. To rip through the pack and finished 1.5 sec behind Carolina is quite impressive. If he pulls good starts tomorrow he will be tough to beat.

On the other hand, if AC pulls the holeshot RV might be able to beat him.

Great race and great crowd!

Lappers were horrible, cross jumping and one even almost came to a stop right in front of RV. He definitely backed it down after that. In their defense, the locals riders probably have never been lapped before and didn't know to just hold their line. Hope someone talks to them before tomorrow.

First off, what a BEAUTIFUL track and landscape. Argentina must be an incredible place! Looked like a flatter, more technical Southwick with some Washougal mixed in. Also, how quick we are to forget, RV IS A TERROR outdoors and has the most amazing style and technique ever! He is the most thrilling rider to watch and he is definitely on point. Finally, I think it is amazing how RV stepped up to this new challenge after accomplishing so much already. Hats off to GL for helping to make this happen.

A lapper also crossed in front of him on the finish line jump too but it seemed like the racing line led to it. The last 2-3 laps both AC and RV went from their right to left on that jump as well.

I agree, my take on the situation (take it or leave it) is that there was some pushing the limits at the begining and yes, it seemed everyone was squirrly and unsure and settled into a protective mode and the ones who didn't ( Bobby, Jeremy, Romain) had some near get offs. RV was having issues as well but handled them the best, RV was the highlight today. Tony didn't seem comfortable and would dab his left foot then pick it up and redab again, something didn't seem right with him. The track seemed weird with the top layer giving way and then the hard pack had them spinning and they seemed unsure as to commiting fully to the front end in the entrances to the corners.It's going to be interesting tomorrow with rain, hope everyone makes it out of there intact.

man I've got a horn over that track.. incredible area, awesome surface, good layout.. lines everywhere!

Although we didn't get all the answers from that race.. there was a little cruising from all involved but RV looked very good and wouldn't be surprised if he went 1-1 tomorrow.. Then again that Italian is a sneaky little bugger haha can't wait..
well actually can wait cause I'm not getting up a 2am, but I'm watching the archive as soon as I wake up

Argentina has its shit together and the MXGP qualifier was a pleasure to watch. I also thought the track had a bit of Washougal in it.. great dark loamy soil, rollers, big jumps and lots of wide corners to rail. Finally, the coverage is great with lots of close ups, following the action up front and good quality camera work. Crowd was awesome too.. lots of cheering and plenty of fans there which helped make it a great atmosphere. RV was on it for sure and if he and AC get out front early tomorrow there could be some epic racing. Bring it on!!

What a race!

I defy anyone to watch that race, (which was only a qualifier), watch how hard Villopoto worked, then tell me that chasing this world championship is not the most awesome, daunting and dangerous thing any champion has ever attempted to do, especially to close out an epic career!

We are very fortunate, as fans, to watch this clash of titans unfold. It should be a season for the ages...

One more thing, making up time on a track as fast as that one is especially difficult to do. I would have preferred a few less monster rollers and a little less airtime, which would allow the track to get a lot rougher with braking bumps, etc. But overall a huge improvement over the first two flyaway rounds, which they could have run at Ascot Park and OCIR and had better tracks...more spectators, too!

I'm worried for this race if I'm anyone but Villopoto. He looked calm, cool, and collected. He knifed through the pack and right up to Cairoli's wheel. I don't think anyone was going their hardest, Villopoto included. It's looking like trouble tomorrow for everyone else. He didn't pass Cairoli, but he made a huge statement. He seems to get more and more comfortable every race. It wouldn't shock me a bit to see Villopoto go 1-1 tomorrow. Before anyone says I'm a Villopoto nuthugger or some biased American, check my posting history and what I said after the last race.

Quick question for the people who have followed GPs for awhile. Has anyone ever came from fairly deep in the pack like that with Cairoli in the lead early, and ran him down? I have watched the GPs as much as I can, and every time I've seen Cairoli get into first, it was game over. I was just wondering if anyone has done that before, and if so, how frequently? A GP regular would know more than me. The reason I ask is because the answer to that question can tell us a lot about the future of the series.

Before the series, I said that at most 6 motos would be won by someone not named Villopoto or Cairoli. I also said that at most 2 overalls would be won by someone not named Villopoto or Cairoli. We will see how those predictions turn out.

I'm looking forward to some great racing tomorrow.

RV looked really smooth and pulled a nice wheelie the length of the straight to pass Bobryshev.
