I'm not sure how these guys go so fast, across uncharted terrain, in that dust.

The first 2 minutes are the bomb run...

FINALLY! Some love for desert racing! Thank you for that post, Titan, people don't usually understand what you mean when you try and explain a bomb run using just words.

I'm a Desert guy, through and through...and there are a few of us around here. I'd post my helmet cam, but its not nearly as impressive as that one (Ricky Brabec is the defending champ for a reason).

And you're right...trying to explain a Bomb run to someone that's never done it, is like trying to explain what salt tastes like, without using the word "salty". lol

Takes years of practice out in the Dez to go that fast and some talent. I have been racing desert in District 37 for 15 years and there is nothing else like it. Ricky Brabec is the defending champ and others like former Champs Russ Pearson and Destry Abbott and Danny Hamel are soooo fast but In all the years I have been doing this I have never seen anyone as fast as former Champ Kurt Casseli he made racing desert look easy and smooth. Glad to see us get some props on here !

I agree with everything you just said.

Kurt made this sport look so easy! And there can really be no greater compliment than that.

I LOVE racing in the desert. No other type of riding/racing even comes close.

Man great race. From a guy from Florida that helmet cam ride looked bad ass. And Kurt was a bad dude to win those type of races.

I'm sitting here in my Orange KC66 shirt myself!

Parts of that towards the end of the bomb almost looked in fast forward! Great video!

I just realized the other day that Brabec won NHHA, BITD and SCORE last year, that's pretty impressive.

Yes he did. Ricky is the only one to ever win all three of those titles in the same year. Pretty Impressive

Been doing the NHHA's the last few years. This race at idaho was a lot of fun. 106 miles total. Video does not do justice for the speeds and how incredibly rough the terrain really is. Glad to see desert racing getting any kind of recognition, it needs it for sure. Its amazing how many people will show up to race a grand prix or motocross, yet desert racing seems to just not catch on like it used to. I always hear my motocross buddies tell me Im nuts to go flying across 80-100 miles of race course I've never seen before. Thats what makes it so badass though!

Growing up in the High Desert (Palmdale) we got do rides like that every weekend we were not at the track. It was all for fun. I do miss that, something I can not find here on the East coast.

The dust is without a doubt the most difficult part of a H&H...and it seems like virtually ALL of the race are dusty, and if they aren't dusty, they are muddy...but occasionally, very occasionally, you'll get a race like this one from about a month ago...(this is my helmet cam, I bent my chain guide and ended up DNF'ing this race...DNF's stink...but they REALLY stink on a perfect dirt day):

I've told this story, but, the one H&H I did in Nevada, I got through the start, crashed once hitting a huge rock and then again almost a downed rider after that in the dust at the start... got out to clean air and a pretty bitchen course, only to be stopped and red flagged at the first check.. restart. Sorry, no.. lol. But I love the desert. Cool

That is the first I've ever heard of a desert race getting red flagged...especially at the first check. For an H&H the first check is sometimes 10-20 miles into the race. That's crazy. Why did they red flag it?

I dunno, I think because of all the dudes that went down in the silty Nevada dust at the start! Smile I loaded up after that and yes, it had to be 10 miles in, weird experience for sure. That last vid you posted after the rain looks epic, my kinda riding. We'd ride after a few inches of snow in the Reno area and when the sun came out and snow started melting it was the best riding ever.

That is so crazy.

And riding in the desert with wet dirt is one of the best things in life.

Those guys have some big balls. Much respect for them. I do enjoying desert riding, but don't have the confidence to go that fast.
