Its difficult to read this thread and believe this sport just isnt too stupid to survive. Just wait around till your 20/20 expose comes out.. Watch the governmental hearings come. Watch the Sierra Club just explode their agenda. Watch insurance companies pricing tracks out of existence. Think it cant happen? It already did in 1986.
I think you might be right... I hate to say it but we as a sport are missing major issues.

Many of us on this board have said we will not get our sons/daughters into the sport on the race side. We might take them to go ride woods and trails bit not race. What kids on 65's, 85, 105's are jumping is absolutely stupid

You have current and former pros saying that it is too dangerous . Yet people on here with NO pro (or even major am national experience) saying that it is not all that dangerous and nothing needs to be done... wow

The show will continue to get worse as the top talent sits on the sidelines. We hurt the racing by having so many of the sports top riders out with injury

Idiots like Rookie White risk riders on minis and other slower riders at the local track (And most on here think it is cool)

local tracks run the pros, mini's, vets, beginners at the same time... it what universe can someone say this is safe

We see someone die on live tv or a kid on s supermini die at monster cup and the whole circus might come to a stop

bike sales are down and everyone around wants more outside dollars into the sport but no one wants to make changes or act like professional

you can't progress without change

Nobody is preventing a family from making their kid go from superminis to a 125 to whatever else they want. I have not been to a race series or track in a long time that does not have a two-stroke only class and most of them also have a 125 class

This is a parenting problem, not the sports.

As an amateur if you get support from Honda, Suzuki or Team Green you don't really have a choice. You get no contingency with a 125cc bike that is 8-10 years old and out of contingency rules. You're kind of forced, by the manufacturer, to step up to a 250f if you want to get any support.
If you're a fast Amature without money and need that support you need to scrap a few dollars together and get the kid to a few local races/rut tracks on a 125 to develop some bigger bike skills before getting on the 250f. You then need to watch the kid and determine if he's ok on the 250f or if you need to take a step back because no contingency is going to pay the hospital bills, nor should any contingency be more inportan than a kids health. My father always told me growing up that there's more than one way to skin a cat other than its ass hole

If you're a top level AM racer like Adam Cianciarulo, you have the power to tell your kids sponsors how it will go. AC went from 80s/superminis to an insanely fast supermini that was close to a 125, and then to a 125 because they didn't feel he was big enough/strong enough. More families need to think this way.

The problems I see with riders at the track who can't handle their bikes are typically not the fast amature guys or even the struggling privateers who hardly make a Supercross after going pro. It's usually Joe Blow off the street who has no shot of mskibg any contingency money, and could ride whatever he wants, but he saw all the guys at SX racing 450's.

A 150 foot double or triple is safer than 2 75s. Or 3. 50s.
The more landings and take offs closer together is what disrupted weimer.

Dont think so? Look at snocross.
Its more spectacular and no ones going long into a jump face.

Agree 100% Pilotdude. Also Josh Hill, Barcia,. Weston and Lemoine had rough get offs last night. The last few tracks have really been sketchy. These guys dedicate so much time training for Saturday nights and then in a second it's over and some could be minimized. Just look at Treys face when he was being driven off. I really felt for him.
On top of all that, it ruins the excitement of the series.

Seems like to me that you don't need a rider's Union.

I do think that you need the pro racer's input on the track designs in advance of the season and on track conditions at race time. 2 or 3 pros have commented on the tracks in the last couple of weeks, post-race. What good does that do?

The AMA / FIM and Feld should create immediate provisions for racer input and feedback on the track designs and conditions. This can happen immediately. If racers feel there are sections that are dangerous or ill conceived they can make their input known in a formal fashion before racing begins. This committee can be a cross-section of racers in all classes to make sure that there is equitable input. At least at this point you would have racer buy-off on the tracks which takes care of one of the problems mentioned in this thread.

That track was very narly. The issue is the jumps have very little room for error it seems but honestly the guts were all doing the jumps fine for the most part.

I have always thought the starts didn't give the riders near enough room to fit into the corner and track not wide enough in some areas.

I think the track builders need to be smart and build the first section on all tracks after the start as safe as they can.

That was one brutal track last night. Very challenging and some big jumps but the guys were doing it.

I think a rider suit may need to be developed that the riders wear. I know it will be tough to get used to and maybe heavy but it may prevent injuries from a fall or at least help you would think.

The head and spine injuries are the scariest ones so 6d did a great job developing a helmet and the other need to as well.

The focus should not be on the pro's or the Temp pro SX tracks. The focus needs to be on local tracks and ride parks that are getting way out of control.
My local track is simply ridiculous. Evel fucking Knievel (God) wouldn't risk riding it. It's a public ride park setup for the pro's to use as their practice track. I think there's an unofficial comp to see which ride park can attract the most pro riders to practice on.

It Isn't the top pro's who are being killed. It's our kids in most cases. It's a parents responsibility to make their kids sport of choice as safe as possible for them to compete in locally. Not an Organisation's, the pro's or pro teams..

Obviously with the decrease in numbers in the sport. Some parents already understand this. Ie. K-Dub.

As for the bikes. Business is all supply and demand. You don't supply what's demanded. You Fail!. Hence why KTM is thriving and the Jap producers are going backwards.

I just now had a young mate call me, asking me to go to a "Ride Park" so I can video him doing a 120 foot gap. He needs proof he did it

Started riding at 19. He's 21 now and owns a new YZF450.

Need I say more?

Bingo! You listen to Matthes podcasts the best ones are ones that have no affiliation with the companies or the sport anymore. DV love him or hate him has great stuff to say that we all know is true and so do others involved in the sport but they can't say it.

I've been following this sport for over 35 Years and think this may be the deepest field that I have seen talent wise. I don't recall seeing many red flag situations over the years but there have been at least three or four in the last few weeks. That should tell you that these tracks need to be toned down a bit. These are the best riders in the world and it's a crap shoot whether or not they will leave on a stretcher.
Well said

So 6 riders get injured and now it's too dangerous? So I guess the other 100 riders that rode the same track were just lucky? Get real...the same thing has happened at the national tracks. It's called progression, both in the bikes, riders, and tracks. There's no going back now.

The tracks the year have gotten progressively tougher, which I like. Seperates the top guys and has given us better racing.
Six riders? Partridge could barley make a main event to start the year, he qualified 11th on Saturday but in time wise was not any closer to the fastest rider in qualifying.

Nothing against Partridge, another super talented rider, but you don't just go from outside the top 20 to just about the top ten in pace magically.

Anyone who plays Motofantasy can tell you that the riders they are selecting now compared to the first few rounds are completely different, and it is all due to riders being injured.

Who as been sidelined from at least one round from injury this year? Just from the top of my head and only the SX class

Brayton
Hahn
Peick
Roczen
Barcia
Weimer
Canard
Albertson
Tickle
(Anderson maybe after the weekend?)
Alessi
Hill
Wilson

Yes some were practice crashes, but that is 13 riders, most of which you would call MAIN EVENT guys week in week out. Good chance I have missed a couple

So after 12 rounds they are averaging at least one top supercross rider in the World being injured! and that is from a pool of about 50-60 riders.

Not great stats at all.

How many 250F riders have been injured this year. Also how many arena cross riders get injured in the 450 class. Just a question.

More power is not necessarily better racing the moto GP's racers only ride 500 cc not 750 or 1000cc bikes.

If we have these professional riders telling us its to dangerous then to me that is alarm bell's

I have an idea to make the starts safer. Modified LeMan starts:
Line up the bikes mid way down the straight (dead engine). Gate drops, start running, get to the bike, start it, go.

Wow! Did you come up with all of these tidbits of wisdom about unions yourself, or did you just read it on the internet so it must
be true? "Failure of society", "older folks", "time to get with the times", "unions out", "put up or shut up" - you're obviously a
proud graduate of the walmart school of business and completely clueless to what's being done to you as you race to the
bottom.

I don't usually respond to thread drifts, but you appear to be hell bent on bashing unions and I've read enough of your BS.

You just keep telling yourself how superior yours is the next time you and your family take a commercial flight and (God forbid),
anything goes wrong with the jet or the weather and the only thing between you and a smoking hole is me or one of my fellow
"mediocre results" union airline pilots.
I hope you're not claiming the airline unions don't keep mediocre pilots from flying...cause that ain't true my friend. Thank goodness for the crew concept. In my opinion there are rare cases where a union is justified; the airline pilots is one of them; but for the most part they pursue their own agenda, not necessarily what's best for the company or the employee long term.

How is it possible you have no Idea how to make the starts safer after JS7 has told you how?

One thing that is obvious is that a majority of people do not ride much, here it is a Sunday and this thread gets like 7 pages from the keyboard warriors. I just got back in from the a great day of practice.

Now , I think the Windham thread has a lot of ideas- good and bad but I agree that there can be some things done to improve safety. With that said , we all know this is a dangerous sport and bad injuries and even death have been a part of it for ever.
