People complain that things are not safe, and need more precautions for rider safety, then turn around and say things are way more unsafe than before because they use the red flag more for precautionary reasons... You can't have it both ways.

My unpopular opinion: if a "bad guy" in this sport like Chad Reed or JS7 landed on someone like Canard did everyone would blame them for being unsafe, out of control etc.
But because the sports "good guy" church going rider landed on someone, it's clearly not his fault but everyone and everything else's fault.
You've seriously taken a silly pill. Treys faith has NOTHING to do with his lack of patients. or the amount of risk he's willing to take at others potential expense. But in this particular sittiiuuuaaation He did nothing wrong. wrong place wrong time. This was track error. IMHO.

I didn't say it did. I said and implied that because the good guy in the sport did this, people are viewing it in a different light than if James or Chad would have.

Go stand in the infield at the entrance to turn one at any mile, especially the ones with a serious blue grove and tell me you fell asleep.

Guys like RC, RV, Stewart have pushed the sport to a level I don't know if we can come back from. Guys are tripling and quading sections that at times I don't think feld and dirt wurx even thought they would do

You youngsters need to go dig up a copy of the famous 'Stupidcross' article the legendary Super Hunky (Dirt Bike magazine editor if you don't know) wrote way back in the 80s (maybe 70s) where he predicted all of this 'jump, jump, turn' to enhance the 'show', along with the mayhem that would come with it.

There's a reference to the original article here

What sport do you guys watch where people don't get major injuries? I turned basketball on a few nights ago to see Paul George coming back from a horrible leg break, a few guys blow out knees and heard a guy from the Rockets is out with a collapsed lung. Point is, injuries are not exclusive to this sport and it seems to me that other sports have just as many big injuries if not more than SX/MX.

When people are pushing themselves and their equipment as hard as top level athletes do, injuries are going to occur. It's a crummy side of the sports world, but it is a major side of it.

One time I saw Lebron James die while doing an alley oop. And another time saw MJ break his leg doing a lay up. Nothing like an NBA or MLB guy rag dolling into crowd. They never walk away. Good analogy.

How bout we take the numbers and size of the sport into consideration. I know for a fact ive watched atleast 10 march madness games without anything serious. Try watching 10 rnds of sx and saying that. Ive also watched maybe 4 nhl games this year. Bloody nose yup bruises yup being carted off the ice for substantial injuries nope.

If what u are saying is true the numbers should show alot more big injuries in those sports simply because of the numbers of professionals that play it.
How many teams in nhl? And how many players per team?
Sx has on any given saturday 40 everyday professionals. And 40 pros who work day jobs. I dont see that in any other sport.

Racing supercross is a choice. They know perfectly well the risks they are taking. They aren't a bunch of girls being pushed off a cliff...

SX is just a form of entertainment, sit in a nice controlled seated area with concession areas and beer stands, nice parking area, super screens and replays and a carnival barker whipping up the dwindling crowds. Then have the boys go around right in front of you and jump, turn, jump ,turn, fly through the air and turn, jump, turn jump.
Motocross was a sport where you raced against your fellow competitors in a semi natural environment that changed through out the day and it was a talent to find lines, make lines and adapt to a developing track. SX has turned into a show that has become a new version of a destruction derby carnival, the riders now compete against the onslaught of man made hazards plus having to compete against the other riders that survive to the finish. a horrific morphing of a once proud sport into a promoted, profitable 3 ring circus gladiator extravaganza that awards the rider who survives with the most points at the end of the show's seasonal run with a phoney pretentious title of little significance outside of the SX hoopla bubble of core followers.

Stick it in some random foreign country where hardly anyone cares about dirtbikes. Take away the nice seating abundant parking and majority of the crowds and you have a GP. Cool story bro.

Bumps in the Jumps, Bumps in the Jumps . That's what we need is more bumps in the Jumps

Bikes go2 fast, bikes go2 fast. That's what we need, more bikes 2go2 fast.

Flying thru the air, Flying thru the air, that's what we need is 2go flying thru the air.

No body cares, no body cares. That's what we need is more bodies that don't care..

More rutz and more bumps, more rutz and more bumps. It will be just as entertaining with just more rutz and more bumps.

Get a bad start, Get a bad start. Some guy needs to get right to the front,

Flying thru the air, Flying thru the air, that's what we need is 2go flying thru the air.

Bodies on the ground, Bodies on the ground. Put the bodies on the ground.

No body cares, no body cares. That's what we need is more bodies that don't care..

MC Clutchy... I'm getting to hate these tracks, Safety means nothing. Everyone agrees that riding and racing dirt bikes is dangerous, but it has gone to far in the name of selling the show. Make the tracks wider and shorter and increase the number of laps or make them 20 min +2 laps.. DO SOMETHING....!

These rhythm sections are bullshit...!! Or be smart enough to bring them through the whoops before hitting rhythm sections. I'm not watching motocross or supercross to watch people get killed or crippled. Same with race cars. People used to get killed all the time in race cars... Thanks #3. Peace and prayers for all the down riders and their families.
Are you aware that a year or more ago the consistent complaint from the (top) riders about the tracks was that there was nothing for the best guys to differentiate themselves on? Two laps into practice at most races...and EVERYONE is doing every obstacle...even the B practice groups. No options...and even the lappers are doing the same combos...which basically means whoever gets the holeshot is likely going to win because it is so hard to make time.

We can't have it both ways.

What happened with Trey and Jake could have happened at ANY track. It was not a direct result of the tricky nature (poor flow and really hard dirt) of this track. Jake clipped and then back out of it....and absorbed the next jump. Trey clipped about the same...but he stayed in it and did not absorb the next jump. It was a mistake on Jakes part. A racing incident pure and simple. Same for Weston....David came over on him and he had to check up at a bad time. Racing incidents. It is SX...and shit just goes wrong sometimes. The 250 guys casing the triple in practice?...well the crew did pull out the last whoop before the race to give them a better run into the triple.

Perhaps someone who can actually ride SX (JT?) can comment on the tracks, and the trade offs between safety and rewarding the highest level of skill. I doubt any of us are qualified to weigh in on this issue. If you listen to Andrew Short's interview post race at Detroit...he actually said that Indy was trickier, more difficult and more technical than Detroit.

Where were the complaints a week ago? You are not complaining about the tracks...you are complaining about the outcome...which was really more directly affected by the human element.

I used to do just that at San Jose, doesn't get much better. Absolutely insane how fast and close they were to each other backing it in at something like 120mph.

When half of the guys in sx mains can't do clean laps, something's wrong.

Man... Ricky Graham and Springer and those guys were beasts to watch....you can't compare SX to Flat Tracking...just not fair to SX...way more action in a flat track race. 3 wide backing it in at 100 MPH on XR750's....shiiiiiiiittttttt......

I'm all about making the sport safer. That includes safer equipment, gear, and tracks, but I also want challenging tracks that really show what these guys can do. TC and Weimer crashed on a simple section, that could have happened at any track this season.

Maybe they should all quit and go play chess instead...just my opinion....

all i have to say is if this trend keeps happening we won't have to worry about it. Uncle sam with the help from the insurance companies will handle it.

tracks today are too fast. to big to much for many riders.

this is a general statement not attached to anyplace, or incident.

kids are going to fast, and too big, too soon.

go big or go home? anyone seen the numbers in mx lately?
