RV going 10-10ish (barring bike failure like rd 1) is laughable! Enjoy your sleep until August dreamer boy!

Titan said that he thought RV should just go for a top 10 at Lommel, I was just saying that it's an important race and if he does do that then he will find it difficult to make up that many points. I think he'll be better than that. But I certainly don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that he's outside the top 5 at Lomme. There's some seriously fast sand riders over here. I could name at least 7 or 8 riders that are capable of a podium there

Strijbos, Big Ken, Coldenhoff, Paulin, Desalle, Van Horebeek, Nagl, Febreve, Bengtsson & Tony are all very capable in the sand of Lommel & Valkensward. RV should consider a 6-10th overall a victory. If he can get out of there with only a 10-15 point loss on the leaders he will still be in the running pointwise.
I agree, you've Simpson to throw into that mix too. The sand GP's are the toughest for most people, because there are so many guys that are fast I the sand, it won't be any different for RV

Herlings faster than RV on a 250f at Lommel? not surprised... RV learning from Herlings at Lommel? Also not surprised.. the guy is smart. I also heard RV was similar speed to Nathan Watson and couple of seconds slower than Herlings. That's not surprising, proper sand is different to what he is used too, it maybe surprised him though!

RV will get faster in the sand.. and so will Herlings, but luckily for everyone except maybe Cairoli, Herlings aint riding MXGP class yet lol

I can see RV being decent once Lommel rolls around, he should be on the pace of the main guys but probably not Cairoli. Although he is still too aggressive atm.. it will be hard to ride like that for two days at a GP. The track will be much rougher then.

I see top five or even a podium for RV at Lommel. He has a few months to practice yet!

I just wish they had a GP at Lierop too... the best track in the world!

I'm hoping that the tba will be Lierop, but I doubt it with Lommel and Assen either side of it. Be awesome if it was though, hopefully Herlings could get the championship wrapped up before then and go on the 350 the last couple to help out AC

few second practice video ? Shithead ? Again... read my post. I live near Lommel. I have seen Ryan practice there. No chance in hell he will win the GP in Lommel. But he doesn't need to. All he has to do is score points. A top 5 would be good, a podium will be awesome. That's all he needs to achieve if he wants to win the world title.

And before you say i'm a Cairoli or GP fanboy... i actually want RV to win the title. Rv or Desalle, JVH or Paulin. I have no problems at all with Cairoli. He's a fantastic rider and a great guy, but i'm a bit bored with him winning title after title. Time for a change. I want someone else to win the title. And if that other guy is RV i'm perfectly fine with that. I'm a bit scared what the reactions on this board will be though Dry

Lierop would be fantastic but yes, i think the promotors af the GP in Assen will try and prevent that. Having a GP in Lierop will draw less people to Assen.
I think that every mx fan in Belgium and Holland is mad about the GP being in Assen. Everybody loves going to Lierop and now we will again loose one of the most beautifull tracks in the world and the GP will go to another man made track on a flat road racing circuit. Not one motocross fan is waiting for that race. Ofcourse, if there is no alternative, people will go to the race in Assen. But if there is a GP to be held 2 weeks prior to Assen in Lierop most motocross fans will go to Lierop and skip Assen.

Well I was planning on going to Assen, but like you I would much rather go to Lierop, I went there the last 2 times they held a GP and both times it was just awesome. Hope to have the chance to go back there for a GP or MXoN again one day

He knows exactly what kind of sand is there seeing as he lives close by. But I'm sure your judgement made from the other side of the world is far more accurate

No, it's not magical sand and yes, it can be learned. Problem is that in practice you never have the same conditions then you have on a GP weekend. The track is completely different in a GP weekend just because the riders that ride that weekend are a lot faster then on any practice weekend. You just can't compare it.

And that is Ryan's problem. For him it will be completely new. He can win in Lommel, just not in his first year. It took Antonio several years to become succesfull in Lommel. And he lived for all those years almost next to the track. He went there almost on a daily basis.
Believe me, a podium in Lommel will be a fantastic achievement for Ryan. And that is more then enough. Going to chase after AC would just be plain stupid. Damage control, score as many points as possible. That is all that he has to do in Lommel.

A bit of rain would be fantastic for Ryan. In that case the sand won't be as soft as normally. If that's the case he will be closer to AC, i agree with you there.

I've ridden Lommel and Lierop, Lommel sand forms into something that's not comparable to Lierop or any other sand track i've ridden. I don't want to be on that track on a race day. It just can't be fun. Not saying RV can't ride it or won't be no contender for the win.

You realize that every track in the US is different on national day than any other time of the year. Bumps, ruts, corners, develop differently than any other day of the year. By your reasoning it would take several years before any rookie could win at any track. I'm not going to go as far as saying he'll win but it would not surprise me, you're talking about a guy who is better than any GP rider on a wider range of tracks, I don't think that can even be disputed. To say that it's impossible for him to win on a condition that he still has 5 months to prepare for makes you the one seeing fairies and unicorns.

You can say your opinion on here, but don't ever say you think RV can't win. These guys take that statement personal.

RV hasn't proved he is better at motocross than Cairoli or anyone yet! Until he wins a World title, there is no proof he is, just unfounded presumption.

And the World Championship has much more variables with tracks and different countries than the US Nationals... that's why it's the barometer for the best motocross rider in the world. That's why if RV wins it - and he could - then he will be the best.

Stop presuming superiority and being offended when others don't presume RV is superior to everyone else.

Please stop calling people the best in the world when they haven't won the world title yet, give RV the chance to win it first at Glen Helen, then call him the best...thanks in advance.

yeah well.. whatever...
I only said RV can't win in his first year. He can win, but just not this year. Just because he has no idea what he is in for.

And yes Randy, every track in the USA develops different on a race day compared to how it develops on other days. The difference however isn't that big compared to Lommel.

You guys remember Michael Leib ? You should read his blog about when he came to Europe. Now i know that Michael isn't RV but in his opening posts he claims that he is a pretty good sand rider. After 2 years in Europe however he says that he hates sand. He just can't ride it.
You should read his blog about his first time in Lommel : http://mleib170.blogspot.be/search?updated-max=2010-08-26T08:01:00-07:0…

Tuesday, August 10, 2010
July 25th we made our way up to Belgium from a little bit of time in the sand before the Lommel Grand Prix last week. All the guys out here have been telling me how crazy this sand race is and to be honest… I had no idea on what I was really getting myself into this past weekend. During the week practicing at some local sand tracks I was riding pretty well and on the clock I was pretty close to the top guys here in the sand, yet did I know that what we were riding was pretty much hard packed compared to this weekend.

It all hit me after my second practice that this weekend was not exactly going to be a fun one for me. It was quite strange for me to not adapt quickly to a track like I have been doing since May when I first got here. Every time I swing a leg over a bike here I have been forced to learn different terrain and have been doing well with that. In my 10 years of racing I have never seen anything like what I saw this weekend. By far it was the roughest track I have ever been on, the most difficult sand I have seen, and the first time I felt like I forgot how to ride a motorcycle. Ha ha. Me and a few others coming from America have the same opinion.

So with that said my results were 24-23 and I was pretty disappointed in that. I struggled all weekend long

I agree to a point. But it wouldn't only be because he won the world title, it would be because he's won both in a relatively short period of time. It's been proven the AMA series is just as difficult a nut to crack for a rider coming from the GPs. A World Championship doesn't necessarily make a rider the best in the world anymore although for the moment I do think the 450 class in the GPs is deeper, but it's cyclical and that will most likely go back and forth over the years.

Don't get me wrong Keyboardwarrior. I have a lot of respect for RV. He has the balls and the talent. What he is doing this year is just fantastic. Is he the best rider in the world ? I don't know. He is one of the best. I'm sure of that.

But saying RV will win Lommel is just the same as saying that AC will win Anaheim 1 next year, if he would ride it. AC won't win A1 next year, RV won't win Lommel this year.

So who is the best in the world ? According to you RV is better because he is a champion at both indoors and outdoors. Well... if being a champion at different sort of tracks is the scale then i must say that Ken Roczen is the best rider in the world. He can win races in supercross, outdoors and even in the deep sand of Lommel. No other rider is so versatile as Kroc.

It's not magical sand, it's sand that is extremely difficult to master, and it's different to any other sand track in the world. Even practicing there can't prepare you for what it is like on a GP weekend. RV being as good as Cairoli or Herlings on that kind of sand track is like them being as good as him at Supercross, it would take them years and they'd still wouldn't be as good.

As far as saying that RV is the best Motocross rider in the world, well that's yet to be proven, he's one of the best without question, if he wins the title this year then he will be rightly considered the best. Supercross does not come into it though when you're calling some the best Motocross rider in the world, the way it has gone now SX is basically a different sport, it's as much like Motocross as Enduro is, and not everyone rides it, you can't say that RV is better than Cairoli just because he's raced SX it doesn't work like that
3/22/2015 11:59am
Tony has nothing to prove in a AMA series,he's been a 8 time World Champion on the other hand RV has everything to prove by competing in the World Championship he's never won or he would not be here and out of his comfort zone.

They are speaking from opinion. Ignorance is claiming your opinion is the only correct one.

RV is the best SX rider in the world, he's proven it in my book.

So you think about going to Assen ? Well, i'm not. I'm not paying that much money to see a race on a flat infield of a road race track with some manmade obstacles. Especially not when there are several fantastic natural tracks near by.
If Luongo wants his GP circus to turn into an actual circus, let him. But i'm not paying him to do so. I'm going to Lommel. And if 2 weeks after Lommel there is a race in Lierop i will go to Lierop as well. But i'm not going to Assen. No chance.

And what are you going to do ? You think about going to Assen ? What if there is a race in Lierop ? Will you still think about going to Assen ? I doubt it. And that is exactly why the promotors of the GP in Assen are against a GP in Lierop two weeks prior to their GP. They will loose a lot of fans.

RV has beaten Cairoli more times than not in the times they have met thus far when you include MXdN...

Ooopss

Calling the GP's a "world championship" sounds impressive, but it's really a European championship.

As to the topic I doubt very highly RV will get the overall win at Lommel, and also doubt he cares that much... he doesn't need it to win the championship. Guys like you need a European winner there though.. god forbid Captain American were to win Shocked

I googled Assen to see what all the fuss was about and this is what it found. Cool

Well I was planning on going to Assen, but like you I would much rather go to Lierop, I went there the last 2 times they held a GP and both times it was just awesome. Hope to have the chance to go back there for a GP or MXoN again one day

Yeah I'm thinking of going to Assen purely because I want to see as many GP's as possible. If Lierop was the other GP then absolutely no doubt I would go there instead of Assen. Which, like you said makes it unlikely that it will be Lierop. Which is a shame

I think it was Stefan Everts that called Ryan Villipoto the fastest MX rider in the "world", was it not :-P
