We all know that Villopoto and Stewart aren't around this year, but from the following choices rank them in order of importance for his improved results.
1. New bike
2. Aldon Baker
3. Less team pressure with Roczen gone
4. Married life works for him (don't laugh, look at Canard too)
5. Better tracks

2. No JS7 (Although not a major contributing factor)
3. Injured Roczen
For starters Dungey is always 2nd to RV, so with RV gone he is where he should be. Not really rocket science.

I think the bike is the biggest Improvement IMO but the whole team needs to be doing their jobs well for it all to click like it is for KTM ATM.
He was flawless today
maybe RD knew something afterall..
The only thing I will say that is the same with him is his inability to make quick passes on slower riders. Case in point Andrew Short at Daytona. Once he passed him his lap time dropped by 3-4 seconds and went up 20+ seconds at one point. I was shocked to hear JT say Seely would have ran away with the win if he didn't crash. Yes he caught up to Dungey and was trying to make the pass but only because Short was holding him up. Dungey was not losing that race to Seely, no way.
02 Honda was different to 01... But not really redesign was it?
RV retired from sx he is gone that would be like saying Mcgrath did good because David Bailey and Magoo wrrent there.
Dungey raced the field and is pulling away.
Stewart hasn't really been in championship contention for many years so he more than likely wouldn't have been a factor this year either....he's not there so we need to move on.
Kenny got hurt with a few poor decisions, Oakland and ATL, but I believe the poorest decision he made was last year when he left KTM and closely followed with the decision to leave Aldon.
Dungey is a beast this year and it's because he has all the pieces he needs in place.
Pit Row
Also, Dungey is actually making quick work on the starts lately. It's not often this year that he has a bad start, but he had a bad start in his Indy qualifier. He got BURIED on the start straight. I think he was 9th in the First corner. Less than half way through the first lap, he was 4th. His early race attack has improved 100X over prior years.
I keep seeing the argument that he still takes forever to get around guys like Short and Peick. Those two guys are FLYING this year. They have both shown some incredible speed early in races. These guys aren't mid packers anymore.
Roczen progressively started losing some of the confidence training that Aldon was teaching him. They talked last night about Jeremy Martin not having the experience and knowledge of how to handle himself when he's not in an ideal situation. It's more of a mental loss than an ability or endurance thing. That's where KR lost out by leaving AB.
2) The bike. It clearly seems to suit him better. Short's not doing bad on it either. Not unlike the transformation RV went through when he got a new bike a few years back.
3) Everything else
It is disappointing RV is not around. I definitely think RD is better now than he was last year and he would have given RV a run for his money. JS7 has rarely been a factor for a championship, he crashes himself out.
No "wonder bike" comment? I'm truly not impressed.
Bubba had 5 and RV had 7. Those 2 are gone, and that is why RD seems like he is so much better.
