But hey , side note here. I raced a few years with Kory Ellis on " Bikes " in the INT class back in the day. He was an ok rider on a bike I guess , but when he got onto the quads he just started kicking ass. He did very well with those things , even though I wouldn't of ever ridden one.
Actually he started on quads (LT250 Suzuki with an RM80 engine), then, like a couple of us (me, Eichner, DiBrino), road bikes and quads at the same time, and then eventually focused on quads. He and Eichner kept racing much longer than the rest of us.

If you want to run top-3 450B on quads(and be safer, durable), you have a big investment ahead of you. And they just break more. I completely abandoned quads simply due to the cost. Keeping one together for a full season of "A" would fund me three seasons of 450C on a bike.
Can't argue with you there.

Eichner was/is a beast. Usually rode Open class, right?

It doesn't look too practical. There's no trailer hitch.

On two wheels, I only saw him ride a 250. On 4, he rode 250s mostly, and then mid 90s or so did ATV nationals on a Banshee. That was after he'd won the MTGP title and moved to CA. Pretty sure he rode motorcycles a lot before his time on quads too.

Did quite a few road trips with him when he was in pdx.

My brother rode Pont de Vaux for ATV world around 2002ish when he was on the team as well. Was mega fast!

No matter how hard I try (never that hard) I just can't bring myself to get past hating these berm/rut wrecking sofa's with wheels.
Think about it, you are taking one of the most agile, flick able fun machines/sports and dumbing it down while increasing the danger factor ten fold then quadrupling the price to make it less fun....Why would a sane human ever do that?

The cost factor is closer to dirt bikes than you think. Yes, full race custom quads are expensive, but dirt bikes can be the same way. You can buy a new quad for less than $10k and race it just the same as you can buy a new dirt bike for less than $10k and race it. Both can receive engine mods, suspension mods, graphics, carbon fiber and titanium, exhaust, handlebars, wheels and tires. You get my point. Or leave them stock and ride them.

The idea that a race quad costs $20k and a race bike costs $5k is simply not true.
The ultimate problem regardless of price is they are visibly less fun and agile than a motorcycle. I've ridden one a couple of times and they suck, bad! You basically go from having a machine that has almost endless handling qualities and potential and reduce it to this heavy dangerous machine that was intended for farm chores and people that were afraid to learn how to balance a two wheeler. The ironic part is they are ridiculously more dangerous. Think cartwheeling on a motorcycle vs a 600lb quad.... There are a couple quad guys that are highly skilled in NW that I've seen and it is frightening to watch them get jerked around violently by those things. With the amount of energy exerted and their skill level these local hotshot quad riders could probably be at pro level speeds on mx bikes...

They definitely have no place on an MX track the same day motorcycles are out there. They destroy the track and turn it into a flat tracked freeway. It pisses me off that the Leaches will let three fucking quads come to Albany on practice days and basically ruin the track for the 100+ Motorcycles..... I've even offered to pay extra to cut the $75 worth of quad entries....

600 lb quad?

I'm not talking about launching a Honda Rubicon over a 40' jump.

That's what I mean about some of the misconceptions of quad motocross racing.

OK 350lbs and what? 4' wide? Almost double the weight and this wide stance jerking the rider back and forth. Face it, compared to a finely tuned MX bike they flat out suck. Otherwise the Quad series would be more popular. Motocross guys would be on Vital Quad trying to get people to talk about how cool motorcycles were. To each his own but the facts are the facts.

I agree with everything you've said. I've ridden a few quads but could never get comfortable. It's like riding a bicycle without a seat.

Facts are facts, but your facts are mostly opinion.

You'd have really hated when a few of rode the before the hill class at Albany on quads - with the motorcycles.

From riding both, the only tracks I've ridden in the NW where it seemed to me quads could really mess up lines would be Washougal (edit: and Woodland). Albany didn't develop ruts to start with (but haven't been there for years), nor did Eugene.

I always found it funny that the keyboard warriors whine and cry so much. When I was in it, I would show up with my quad and bike no one would say anything beside, "I can believe you go so fast on that thing" or, "fucking crazy". Never heard a single word about blowing berms. Of course, I never really rode with guys that look for something to complain about.

Exactly.

Apparently it's trendy for dirt bike goon riders on this site to call quad riders gay. Everyone sits in their parents' garage, on their phones, patting eachother on the back and posting how gay quads are. Meanwhile they show up at the track with their roached out "450" and look like an idiot jerking the bars around over every single. Doesn't bother me and I'll even dish some back. Hell, I started this thread. Lol.

Of course there are some fast bike riders on here, but I believe the fact is that most people here that call quads gay and laugh at the videos of goon riding are laughing at themselves, cuz that's how they look on the track. You feel like RD5, but you look like Brandon's First Race.

Yeah, especially when the quad killed that kid a few years ago by running him over. If you asked the Leach's, I bet they'd admit that letting quads ride in the BTH class was not one of their smartest moves. Especially since the result was that a teenage motorcycle rider was killed by that stupid decision. That was a very stupid move by the Leach's to let that happen. It is not opinion that MX bikes are wildly more popular than quads. How many MX guys are on Quad sites right now trying to compare bikes to Quads? How many top Quad racers are household names? Tell me about the National indoor and outdoor Quad series? You can't even compare. I do appreciate the passion of Quad dues though, they think it's the shit even when faced with the facts....

Like all of you, I genuinely enjoy belittling people who are also fighting to keep the same riding spots open, support the same brands, and most likely attend all of our SX races as well just because they ride "different" vehicles too!
