I know feld probably keeps that tight but at outdoors why none, just event shirts.

It seems like it would be easy for a company to make Webb,TC,RD,RV, t shirts. If they switch teams turn them loose at cost at end of season.

I'd buy a few ever race, just like i do at Bristol nascar and nhra. Would much rather have that than a event shirt.

Reed could have a setup right know since he controls all.

Anybody know why this is not done?

Only a select few are allowed to make money in this sport. Riders (except top guys) are not the selected...

It kinda counteracts the purpose of permanent rider #'s. Thought it was for identity and merchandising. I'd buy some T shirts if they were there..

It would be a great way for smaller teams to help cover expenses plus promote the sport. I would like to see this.

Very good question, I've wondered this over the years while wondering around the Washougal merchandise trailers. Great way for the racer to sell his stuff. Very stupid that it's not allowed.

Because SX is a pimple on Nascars ass. There is zero chance of the merchandise trailers working in a sport this small

Well the teams should hire a marketing and sales crew to travel. And sell shit. I would of bought some roczen soaring eagle stuff if they had a truck at Daytona. My fiancé wanted a beanie and a shirt but everything has monster on it.

Give the fans some shit. If they want to get bigger start selling jerseys like the idiots at football games wear. Atleast Itll bring some non riding fans into the sport to spend money.

Might as well not even try.

It would be such a disaster if a team had a dozen or so shirts that were left unsold.

Why would anyone ever think about supporting their favorite team or rider?

In unrelated news, I just decided to buy a new hat.

It could be done out of one trailer. If a rider changes # or team it gives you a way of tracking his history.

Imagine having t shirts from RD5 from his early days till now,or any kther.

My buds allen and roy johnson sell their stuff out of a mopar trailer with several other drivers, works for them.

And ,of course the big names are going to sell the most but say a dollar of each shirt goes in a privateer fund that would give some gas money to guys that loose huge all season.

Dunno, seems like a untapped source to me ..

Whoa. Easy. Let's not get carried away here. Start it at ten cents a shirt.

Would y'all buy this merchandise if the artwork was primarily the rider's name, number and likeness?

If some or all of the corporate sponsors were absent (Red Bull, Suzuki, KTM, Target, Monster) would you still buy it?

If it had the riders name and number on the back like a jersey and a crossed up bike on from with no logos and a smaller name and number say at pocket area yes.

I'm sure the big problem would be all the sponsors being on there and them having to ok it.

I think that would be a great idea. Plus it would be another way for teams to make some more revenue. I also would rather buy a shirt that has my favorite rider than settle for whoever they put on the shirt for the race I attend. I was at Budds Creek last year and bought a shirt, not a big Bogle fan, but had no choice since he was on it. I would have preferred to have more options or buy a team shirt from if they were available.

I'd like to see it, too. Imagine going to a race and there being a vendor section with a row of enclosed trailers off to the side where you can pick up a Seven t-shirt, a pair of Oakley glasses or goggles, or even a TwoTwo tablecloth for the dining room. The factory teams could also set up a trailer and sell team swag, hats, shirts, etc. The promoter can charge companies a fee to set-up their trailers, and maybe add that to the purse somehow. And don't allow stupid "exclusivity" crap where so-and-so only agrees to set-up a trailer if no competing companies are allowed. If they don't want to participate because a competitor is, then that's their loss.

I asked a similar question to Ping last year. Here was his response.

The F1 teams have some cool merchandise that they sell and I'd love to see that at the pro moto races, especially if it helped fund the race team.

Back 25 years ago or so, I would go see the World Of Outlaws sprint car races. All the drivers sold shirts and decals out of their race rigs to support themselfs, they were all privateers.

I always bought a shirt or two, even from guys I never heard of, just because the shirt looked cool.

Nascar is going away with the souvenir trailers by the time they go back to Daytona in July. A big merchandise company is going to bring a huge tent from race to race and sell all the the drivers merchandise. A lot of die hard Nascar fans (including myself) are not happy about this, but Nascar promises this will be a better experience. We all know Nascar never makes a bad decision Wink

Hillbilly, both supercross and motocross have had a trailer that sells the top riders shirts for 10 years now. They carry Dungey, Roczen, Tomac, etc. Maybe ten all together. I think the only top rider they don't carry is Chad Reed, probably because he is trying to do it himself, and we will try to help him with it on our site and the series website... Maybe you just didn't see the rider merch trailer at the Atlanta SX but it's always there.

As for the rest of the riders, it's hard to let every rider set up their own stores or tents at the races is because we lack the room and the demand and in supercross the building keeps 40% off the top, which makes it almost impossible for every rider to make money when they are all selling the same thing-- a rider T-shirt or hat. And If you want to see at NASCAR, or F1, you have to go through NASCAR or F1.

Maybe Vital should set up an online store to service the rest of the riders. The Ben Lamay story has been one of the most uplifting on Vital in some time. I think many of us cheer for the back of the pack, and these are the guys that could use some extra cash to get to the next race. (Seven-deuce-deuce needs a radiator, bro.) I think it'd be great if there was a little online store where any three digit (or two digit these days) that isn't in that top 10 could be represented and could make some gas/radiator money. Maybe GuyB could make a few cents there too?

Riders have lines for autographs... set up a small Point of Sale before the rider giving autographs...sell hats and shirts out of boxes... buy something or don't...move on and get the get your autograph.

Seems simple.

Yea. 10 top riders who don't need the supplemental income.

It's not hard at all. Space? They already have an 18 wheeler there. So, how hard is it for a team to bring one teenager along to sell T-shirts right at their pits? A guy like Jimmy DeCotis could fund himself. It's the Nick Weys of the sport that need to be slinging a stack of 20 dollar T-shirts, but they can't, because someone won't get their cut.

Why, because there's already a hand in that pocket and it's not a deep pocket. World of Outlaws have been doing it forever. IMHO, If you have to pay to play, you bought your spot in the pits and should be able to sell what you want. But ALL these guy's want other peoples money with out earning it....! ALL OF THEM. There's absolutely no reason other then pure greed why this doesn't happen. There's not one objection that can't be met..It has nothing to do with space, DC you make it sound like they're putting up brick and mortar. Why don't people just grow some balls and admit when they're greedy. And I'm probably considered the rude one.... LMAO. Can't have that privateer make a few extra grand to help out with whatever. Nothing wrong with being greedy, I just find it hilarious that folks stand there eating ice cream and deny it. Like they're invisible.

DC,the only nats i been to since gatorback and lake sugartree are the muddy creek ones, did not see this trailer but did not walk all the way around.

At Atlanta just saw that trailer by the event shirts and it offered nothing like what I'm after.

I guess the simple thing would be a online store but like i say, what i saw is not what I'm looking for.

Name number on back to start with then a likeness on the front maybe to not have to pay ktm or yamalube and such.

The building keeping 40% is quite the bullsheet,

Any rider who wants to have their T-shirts sold at the merchandise trailers can sell them, just as anyone who wants to sell something at your store or grocery store can work out a deal with their distributor to get their stock on the shelves. But you can't just walk into a mall or a grocery store or a stadium or a motocross track and just starting selling your own stuff. You even have to pay a fee to set up at a farmer's market. That's how retail works. If Jimmy DeCotis or Nick Wey want to sell shirts in the official merchandise rigs, they should develop their shirts and go make a deal with the event promoter -- just as they do at World of Outlaws, NASCAR, F1, Loretta Lynn's, Glen Helen, the NFL, the mall, every motorcycle dealership, or really any other actual business I can think of. It's not greedy, it's just the way run a sports or retail business and manage. I can't walk into an airport with a stack of magazines and say, "Hey, I'm a privateer (independent publisher) so put these on the shelves and sell them for me." Even the airport has a distribution chain and it's not free.

When riders have stuff to sell, we do all they can to help them sell them, but we also have to manage our business and the infrastructure of the series as well.

I think NASCAR's new idea would work for mx and sx. Kansas speedway did a small shop to try the new idea last fall. It was alot easier finding everything you wanted from multiple drivers all in one spot. The lines were alot smaller and you could get out of the cold at 8 in the cold ass Kansas morning.
