I don't care how many people believe the same things that I do. It's a fail if you assume that I do. I care about truth. How can I believe things that are true?

Seriously, I want to believe in what is true. I also want to be able to determine if a claim is false. How do I do it?

Faith? That's what I'm always told will solve all problems, so why not yours?

Haven't read past the first page yet but seems like ol disbanded has an alter ego and blew it right here in this thread. You have lost credibility. Care to explain?

It's a simple mistrust of greedy bastards using all factions of belief systems to further their gain. Has nothing to do with the ad ignorantium of the many. Why was Tesla and Reich killed? The scientific method is the sound. People, not so much.

It's personal belief and faith that cause people to mistrust science, along with pure ignorance. This comment shows the ignorance aspect quite well.

I was going to jump into this argument, but that quote sums it up. When someone's basis is the "theory" argument, they are just too ignorant for an educated person to bother arguing with.

I eat eggs and bacon every morning, have red meat 4 times a week, drink a beer every night and smoke the occasional cigar, according to science I should be dead, but I'm the healthiest 53 year old I know and I could still smoke the majority of America on a dirt cycle. So yes, I do doubt some science.

I'm not following you. Are you saying I am more than one person here?

Because if you are - you are dead wrong... Care to explain?

I looked back at the first page and I guess you could somehow come to the bizarre conclusion that i was the same person as Atmos, but go ahead and trust me on this one. It ain't me...

Any mods care to help me prove this?? Thank you in advance.

Ok that's cool. But it looked fishy you must admit. I read the posts and it seemed similar even.

I met a guy like that the other day. He was 87, smoked for 70 years and drank every night. He just stayed active and was very healthy for 87 years old!

Science doesn't say that smoking, drinking, and red meat will kill you...Science says that smoking, drinking, and red meat could kill you! Keep on fighting the good fight.

Genetics play a huge roll. But to think smoking is ok because I know a guy who smoked since he was a baby in his crib and lived to his late 80's, that's silly.

I know you aren't saying that exactly, but eating bad (more often than good), drinking too much, too often, smoking, all that fun stuff will most certainly shorten a persons life. A few get lucky, but most don't.

politics and money always fuck science up.

If you believe that "according to science I should be dead" then you have an obvious lack of knowledge about science in the first place.......

And that's pretty much the best example of the issue with most folks describing themselves as "doubters of science".

So many people in this thread do not understand the basics of science. I'm not surprised.

More engineers worked for NASA then scientist.

Science made the internet possible? Maybe you should make youserlf familiar with Robert Kahn, Mike Wingfield, Paul Baran, Donald Davies and Leonard Kleinrock, the men most responsible for the internet, not one scientist in the group.

Your last one is laughable, an eye glass maker and a bored lawyer had more to do with it then any scientist.
Dude, engineering is science. Go to school for mechanical engineering and you start off with physics, then you basically move onto advanced physics and then super advanced physics... Advanced material science, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluids...

I guess I'm a scientist too. I have a degree in Computer Science which also requires physics, calculus, etc, etc. So, you guys better believe everything I say from now on, especially when I talk to you about Global Warming. Wink Believe it or not I actually probably DO have a lot more knowledge on that subject that most people here. I spent 5 years working with climate scientists developing weather applications on mainframe and UNIX systems (AWS/USAFETAC/AFCCC and NOAA). I might have been the person who wrote the programs to generate some of the maps you see used in the Global Warming debates.

I get what you're saying. You're definitely right about the politics and money. Lately on all the national news shows all they talk about is how cold it is and the fact that it's snowing. Then they will broadcast from places in Colorado or Wyoming and talk about how cold it is how much snow there is there. No shit it's always cold in Colorado and Wyoming in February.

As Stephen jay Gould points out (RIP) most speciation occurred during the pre Cambrian.
The heat capacity of the hydrosphere is 100 times that of the atmosphere. Measuring global ave temp from air temp is like, ah measuring HP from tire wear.
