Last summer I found one of my favorite childhood bikes - the 1987 CR 125. It was a hell of a project and I replaced more stuff than I was able to save, but it's great to see the old girl running again. This video shows my progress from purchase in June to first ride last weekend. It still has some bugs to work out, but it's good enough for the video.
What I could salvage: frame, forks, triples, airbox, swingarm, cylinder, axles, clutch cover, brake pedal, kickstart lever, coil and seat base. Everything (and I mean everything, to include the whole bottom end) was scrounged through ebay or replaced (most plastic is still available new).
Cylinder was bored out and cleaned up fine and thanks to Kustom Kraft (it was already sleeved).
Huge thanks to Vital MX member Nate Hubbard for hooking me up with the vintage FMF pipe!
The 86-87 gold wheels were hard as hell to track down, BTW.
I feel like some college should give me a Masters in "Late 80's Honda MX Parts Cross-Referencing"
An added bonus, my 13 year old daughter wanted to start riding again so she is spinning laps on the exact same bike I was on when I was a teenager, at least until she is ready to upgrade!
Hope you guys enjoy and maybe it brings back some memories! I picked this song because it was the one I used to listen to before my races to get psyched up!!

And full disclosure to all (which I'm sure you guys noticed), the project bike is an '88. I had to go with the 87 colors though, since my old one was an 87. I wasn't worried about it being historically perfect because I plan to ride this bike regularly.
Thanks again for all the props everybody!
I bought the bike in June, had it basically together by January. Found an entire rebuilt bottom end on ebay and that actually ended up being cheaper than attempting to rebuild what I had. Plus I worked on it over time to spread out the cost (I have a modern bike too so I wasn't really in a rush).
Nothing wrong with trying to 'modernize' an old bike lol, that's why my '06 CRF has an all white rear end and newer looking graphics on it!! Funny how we felt like squids with two year old bikes back in the day, and now my 'new bike' is pushing 10 years old and I'm still winning races on it!
1: "....whenever we get back to the states"- Dude, you are already IN a state!
2: Awesome job on the bike, looks like a gas.
3: Thanks for the video ride around Kahuku, brings back memories. I put many, many laps in around that track on my 1986 CR125 (when it was new).
