Hell, practically everything north of the Georgia border is covered in snow!

We stayed home because of the ice laid down last nite. Got up at 3:30 am and headed out. Road was a clear glaze mostly but hoped interstate 81 would be better. Drove 30 miles in an hour in a li n e of trucks and a few SUVs. .when I got in the left lane to pass the truck became so unstable I was worn out from white knuckle and Jedi focus that we turned back . The right lane nearly nose to tail for as far as o n e could see.

It would taken 8 hours to drive what usually takes 4.

And another thing, some of you got no idea how to enjoy a sx race. The race is just a topper on a day of strolling the pits, hangin' round and just absorbing the vibe that is the lifestyle of racing motorcycles.

Next weekend nascar is in town ,hotels will prolly be hard to get. But,weather cooperation will see the place full.
we have a warehouse near Bristol motor speedway in the industrial park at the chemical company I work for in Cleveland. talk to the two guys up there, said roads were awful.

Did they announce 70K attendance? Just curious.....maybe a bunch of these scalping companies lost their ass and that is fine with me.

People complaining about road conditions need to spend a week in upstate New York to see what bad roads are like.

I was fine ,it was the others that worried me.

If I'd been by my self I would done 80 down the left lane passing the peckernecks with a bird out the window.

I'm more careful when my daughter is with me and being in a 50 car pileup smashed between 2 rigs was on my mind.

And,yes, she was with me when i was arrested last year but that was just running with traffic ,singled out with a Tennessee tag I'd guess.

We will make it next weekend no matter what. I aint missing them both.

I think the weather had a lot to do with it, ice covered roads are no joke. The sad part is I think it was in the 70's in Atlanta the week prior. At the rate were going in the northeast there will be a blizzard for Giants stadium in April. SNOWCROSS!!!!

We had a 15 minute walk to and from the dome from our hotel, never felt unsafe.
Local workers at hotel, restaurant and GA Dome were friendly and cordial.
We drove 6 hours so going again next weekend is really not practical. If I lived within a couple of hours, I feel sure I would make it for both weekends. Beer, snacks and souvenirs were reasonable priced given where we were.

Our ticket price face value was $62 each. Festivities begin at noon at end around 9 pm....that's a pretty fair value for 9 hours of entertainment...in my opinion.

I get the Monster Energy can as admission to the pits. Smart marketing.
However, I felt certain they would be selling it at the pits....in a huge way.
I would have bet $100 that Monster would have a HUGE presence selling ME there. They had none.
Thank goodness the small gift shop sold cans for $6 each so I turned it in full.
No ME can= $15 to get into the pits.
Why the heck wasn't Monster selling their product outside the pits...in a huge way?.

No. Attendence was reported on Racer X online @ a little over 51k.

I think numbers would've been better with a round or two between them. Very cost effective for the teams thou.

It's about a 5 hour drive for us. 4 tickets, gas, hotel, misc things would have been a 500 buck weekend so we are sitting them out. Would rather spend my money going to the track to ride (we are planning on going to a SC qualifier next weekend). TV coverage is great and I can sit in the comfort of my home so I don't feel bad about not going. I have been to Anaheim and New Orleans so I know what it's like. Might go again but for now I am fine with not going.

Mu girlfriend and I made the trip down and the weather was treacherous in southeast Tennessee and north Georgia. There were significantly less attendees than years past;however, I do believe the weather was a contributing factor to this.

Back to Back races has to be tough on the wallet. A good PR move would have been to buy one week and get the following week for 50% off seats. I was going to hope that weather would be better but NASCAR is at Atlanta Speedway so bad weather might make the Dome a better choice for racing,

I just drove through that shit to get to Florida. More salt on my van than I've ever had in Ohio. North Carolina was whiteout.

They essentially did just what you're suggesting. There was an option on Ticketmaster to buy tickets to both races and save 25% on each ticket.

If I were in the area, I'd prefer to go this weekend just because the track looks better.

If for some reason Atlanta sold out back to back weekends at a 70,000 then our sports should be televised like Nascar b/c our sport is mainstream. To many people have to travel 3-8 hours to get to atlanta and alot of people do that year in and year out, but to ask people to do that back to back weeks is to much.

Dave Prater said that Feld did not want to do back to back, but thats the only way it could happen this year and are hopeful to seperate the events out more in the future. Feld's goal was to have 100,000 or more for the two weekends combined.

BTW the dome looks empty when 50,000 people are there.

Did people actually think that each race would sell 70K? I figured 40-45K per race, and considering the back-to-back weekend deal, I thought that was going to be pretty good. If 50K were there for the first round, then there should, at least, be that many for ATL2. Most people I know are either going to RD2, or both. Personally, I would have rather gone to the 2nd race, but I'll be out of town.

Anyone who says ticket prices were the reason needs to know what they are talking about before they open their mouth. Atlanta prices have stayed the same for the last decade except the club section in Atlanta. Some tickets have even dropped in price in the endzone sections.

1. Weather/Driving conditions coming from north of GA border. Experienced these first hand, drove down Friday night on I-75, got in around 9ish. If we would have left an hour later, it would have been questionable as to whether we would have made it. Not a fun driving experience, and I can see how parents with kids would be even more wary of putting them in harms way to some extent.

2. Track. I had wanted to go to ATL2 based off of nothing other than the track map, but you can't say no to free industry tickets. I would assume others had similar thoughts. If it wasn't for #3 on my list, I'd be going back for sure.

3. Back-to-Back rounds means 2 Saturday's off work in a row. Don't think this necessarily impacts everyone, but those of us with full-time gigs in a manager or owner of a business role know how difficult it can be to get away for 2 weekends in a row. And even when you're not at work, you're still working and have to be available, which is not what you want to do after deciding invest the money in a weekend away from your working life. Not to mention the factor of expenses everyone has mentioned, which is probably the biggest factor, I'm just offering an alternative.

All of that said, the wife and I had a great time at our first race. Other than waiting a ridiculous amount of time for a phantom cab after the race that never came, the experience was awesome--the vibe on race day is truly something you have to be a part of first hand. The city in general was great, as well. Never worried about our safety walking around, and hell we even took the MARTA back to our hotel sometime around midnight after I'd heard people talk about how "sketchy" it gets at that time of night. Everyone we met, from GA Dome workers to fellow fans were friendly and helpful. Will 100% be going back next year, hopefully to both if they can separate the weekends.

Would be good to do a map of the US and see what and where is covered...
I totally agree. If A1-A2 and A3 were back to back to back I am positive it would hurt attendance. Give me a week or two in between I can come up with the extra change to hit more than one!

I can't speak for anyone else but ticket prices are why I don't go anymore. That and last year there were no good seats available for some reason WAY ahead of time. I'm not going to pay premium prices for junk seats.

That's what I was thinking... about 50K. The only real empty spots were upper deck endzone.

Ticket prices suck... $200 for 4 tickets... $30 to park. Waiting an hour to get out of a parking garage.

On TV the turnout did seem to be much lighter than normal. All of those red seats during the mains....................

Also, I don't think that it was the weather or ticket prices, I think that it was just interest. It's down this year. That's just MHO. When I saw that the crowd was so thin I actually thought about going to ATL2, but I doubt I'll make it.

Depends on where you are in NC. We got snow, but I could have made it to ATL1. Also, the Eastern part of the state is probably fine.

Like Hillbilly said, Nascar is in town this week and they are running a double header saturday. Not all motoheads are into NASCAR but two races on the same day is unique for NASCAR without it being due to rain. It will be interesting to see how many show up this weekend.
