His comment was pretty immature considering nobody criticizes him for not "punting people off the track" as he put it . That's a very different thing than consistently refusing to make passes that he has the ability to make, which is what fans and Roger actually criticize him for. Typical reaction of someone with a highly passive aggressive nature. Nobody ever said he sucks, clearly he is in the top. 001% in the sport, what the hell does he want people to say? Should we have a "Dungey is perfect" thread permanently pinned on here??
Did you not watch the races/listen to podcast/read Vital last year when he was being "angry Dunge"? Everybody was talking (good & bad) about him punting Weimer, crashing into RV & the few other "angry Dunge" moments he had. He stands up for himself one time in is whole career & you get your feelings hurt. Obviously he's a quite guy & isn't much for trash talking, so it may make him look like he's passive aggressive the one time he says something about the haters.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's aiming at the broadcast team as much as any, they point it out everytime...

Damned if he does, and Damned if he don't. Go Dungey! Ride your own race. In it ,to win it. A 4th, A 3rd, 2nd in points two rounds in. I think he knows what to do.

I think it was aimed at the broadcast crew also. Put your boots on RC and get out here.

Dungey is sitting pretty, he's only 7 points down. Come Vegas everyone knows he'll be battling for the title. Still wish he was more aggressive

Dungey is a clean racer, always has been. Angry Dungey doesn't work for him on the track and he knows that. He will not take unnecessary risks to pass for a 2nd or 3rd place, if the pass is there he will take it if it is not he doesn't force the issue. To him is not worth going down and really having a points hole to dig out of and possibly getting injured. His goals are consistency, being top 3 to 5 every week puts him in the position at the end of the season to take the unnecessary risks to try and pull a championship. That's his way and not my opinion. I thought good on Dungey for saying something to the people that bust his balls week in and week out, he was right to do so. The guy will always be a damn good racer, just because he is not overly aggressive just means he is smart at weighing the risk/reward factor. Dungey has won a SX championship and a lites championship, he's won multiple outdoor championships, he knows how to win. In closing, the guy knows what he is doing and really doesn't need anyone of a lesser skill set to tell him how to race, he is the diesel after all.

Doubt it...more likely the ones who have publicly been critical....DV, Matthes, guys in the booth...he is the one the contenders need to worry about, because that KTM will get better, it only has two races on it and it's second in points...In all seriousness none of the riders really give a shit about what some vitards have to say behind a keyboard, but when a former racer who has raced for championships before says something, it stings a bit...

It's not that he needs to go around slamming guys everywhere... it's that he needs to setup and commit to passes a little better, is what I think RC and others are saying.

I loved his emotions. He'll continue to progress further with himself and the bike as the season moves on. Never doubt on The Dunge. Keep kicking ass Ryan.

Dungey does need to be more agressive though. The guy really struggles to get around people.

I know this response will have the Dungey fanboys angry though. Relax. Just because someone points out a riders flaw doesnt mean they are a "hater". I have tons of respect for Dungey. The guy is an under appreciated great. Buttttt he really does struggle passing so for him to take shots at media and fans and act like it's not a weakness is BULLSHIT. Just another sensitive mx rider. We compare THIS guy to Villo all the time, "The Ryans", but Villo would never wait as long as Dungey does to get around someone. Villo's attitude is I'm getting buy you right fuckinn now! Dungey can make excuses all he wants on the podium like he's trying to pass and he just "can't", but IMO I think he can. So do lots of other former PROS but I guess they must be wrong too?

Dungey lacks the sprint speed that a very few others have. It shows in the qual. times, and his difficulty passing. It's not about blasting someone off the track, Ken and Eli proved it last night.

One of the best riders in history and also has the worst passing instincts of any AMA Pro.

If he wants to call out people who haven't done it, what does he say to RC and Emig?

If I was a team owner, Dungey is the guy I would want to have riding for me! He can stay focused on the big picture at all times and stays cool under pressure! Forget the keyboard warriors and "slow", fat ex-champions. lol

He may not take riding tips from a bunch of keyboard warriors, but seems like he took the advice from the keyboard warriors and started riding with the aggression we all knew he had. So my question is.. What is RD5's Vitard name?

I think every famous pro rider, professional athlete, politician and other public figure receives nearly constant criticism in some form or another from armchair quarterbacks and sometimes the media, yet very few lose their composure enough to make a comment like that. I'm not criticizing him for it, it was entertaining and better than a sponsor list. I'm only saying he is clearly an extremely passive aggressive person. Again, nobody's perfect and it's not really criticism from me, just my observation.
What the fuck do you know about professional athletes?

Didn't Dungey punt someone last year or the year before? I seem to remember people were then complaining that it was too agressive Grinning

I made the point last year that Dungey was doing it wrong when he was riding like a guided missile. He needed to muscle guys out of the way and force them to check up or crash. He did this quite a few times in the outdoors last year. I thought he had turned the corner.

Hill and Bowers in their heat race is the perfect template.

manny, you cheap sob!! $2k for a score entry c'mon, you should be out working 24/7 so you can fund norman's 401k!! Friggin unreal what that sob is doing to the mc side of baja racing. there's no factories racing down there anymore (to pay that kind of entry fee) so instead of banning mcs altogether lets just race the entry to where no privateer (aka any team) would want to pay. sorry got off the subject here but just remembered about this after seeing your quote. all the best. -chas

Everybody wants a more aggressive Dungey, what we should want is a Dungey that gets better starts and doesn't have to pass soooo many people. The few holeshots he has gotten usually result in a win. IMO he rides his best with a clear track ahead of him.

I am so glad my kid looks up to him. Great rider and a better person who has, can and will win again. He has won at the very top and still keeps the leader close at all races. He will retire happy having achieved the goals only a brilliant few have so all this criticism just comes along with the life of a professional in any venue. Most comments just revile the person commenting, some make you laugh, few are intelligent but it is in no way unexpected. RD is a bad dude on a motorbike. No doubt there. Good times.

Dungey tried being aggressive last year and it ended up doing more harm than good for him. He isn't an aggressive rider and really should just keep doing what he's doing. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins his second supercross championship this year, unless he tries to change up his riding.
