haha. i agree.
but you guys are never gonna get back down to the nimble fun flickable bikes we have if yall keep adding gps, personal water osmosis machines, and easy bake ovens to your bikes!
Or are you just here to say it was heavy and boring compared to a 2 stroke (no shit).
Also, that new Yamaha has a kickstarter, so who cares if the electric start fails? Just kick it.

i'm not. originally started with trying to get a response to why the elec start is such a huge deal then it morphed into a weight/comparative issue with other bikes without it. obviously yamahas R&D dept spent enough $ to think it was a good idea, which probably outweighs my decisions. any of my bikes have just started first few kicks with 0 effort. just find it odd theres a push saying 'lets add batteries and starter motors to these things because they are just to damn hard to start without it'. maybe its because i'm not in the 4T game and this is a godsend. i do see a lot of 4T guys struggle with starting those things so maybe it is a good idea.
Some tacky ass mud will add 15-20lbs to your bike and people fuss about adding a e-start...! Better not ride in the mud then.
Some Yama-bird info....
"It is basically a YZ250F with an electric start, 6 speed tranny, o ring chain and kickstand."
"I think a lot of MX riders will get it, put a 19" wheel on it and race it. The electric start I think will draw MX guys too. The 6 speed tranny is good even for MX. 2nd is the same as 1st on the YZ and 6th is like overdrive!"
"You can drop 2-3 pounds right off the start by getting a lithium battery".
"From what I see and know, they will run out quick on this first order program. Most dealers only get 1!"
Cheers!

Check this out. When some of you were still in diapers, Yamaha had already developed the electric start on the YZM400f in 1997

And I'm thinking about ditching my 450 for the wr250f. It's been a while since my last 250f though, I'm afraid it'll too low on power, rather than "fun" power
As for getting stranded not gonna happen. Options.(not for moto), its work or die.
carry a small like 1 lb jump start battery,
Use tow strap to bump start,.
Put a running bike back to back, tire to tire lean on side stands and use the running bike to bump start it.
Hold a good battery upside down against bad battery to bump start with no cables.
Leave her running during breaks!!!!!
The vast majority of you have ADDED weight to your bike. From your Twin Walls to your Radiator Gaurds. Your replacement parts...chain, tires, tubes...plastic...are almost ALWAYS heavier than stock. How about that cool Skid Plate? Ever weigh your Graphics? How about your Disco-Seat cover?
On the other hand, you can take a coupl'a pounds off of some bikes with a Ti pipe and Ti or Carbon silencer (1.5 pounds on my bike with FIM legal muffler-FMF). I took over a 1/2 pound off of my bike with Guts Racing seat foam. Another 1/3 pound with Raptor foot pegs...which I run simply due to being great foot pegs.
As for you guys gettin' all 2-Stroke Taliban and stuff...
The 2015 KTM 450SXF Factory Editon is lighter than most of your beloved smokers. Been there, done that...weighed'em. Andrews bike weighed in reallllllly light on Saturday and...get this...it had PLENTY of Steel Fasteners. Go weigh your Smoker...YOUR BIKE...and get back to us. You can save those published numbers from the manufacturer: WHAT does YOURS Weigh?
My KTM weighs 231 with all the goodies...glide plate, transponder, 100cc extra oil & only 4 or 5 Ti fasteners...little ones holding the glide on and a couple on the body work.
The YZF250X has a bunch of stuff on it...kickstand and bracket, big tank...battery...pretty sure I saw some smog plumbing on one of the bikes on dislplay at Anaheim...I think the one w/lights. Make the basic one a true track bike w/ e-start and I'll bet it's not going to feel different than the MX model.
Anyone that rides one stock...that's set up for off-road...should know that a lot of the feel comes from the suspension and chassis set up. I switched the suspension on one of my KLX450s to my KXF suspension and my friends where thinking I put a bunch of Ti and goodies on it. Nope! It just felt lighter and tighter.
Doug Henry or Andrea Bartolini YZM400F bikes, minus the engine only had a carbon fiber subframe / airbox and carbon fiber silencer. For the most part the bikes were same as stock. Trick parts but similar in weight it appears. They added weight with aluminum tank.
BUT here is the kicker. Majority of the weigh loss was in the engine. My YZM engine with starter, logically, was heavier then the kick start version, weighs 7lbs lighter then the production YZ400F
Billet Ti side covers was example of some expensive weigh lose.
